Matt Damon: From Liberal Hollywood Hero To Bigot In One Interview

Hollywood is really quite the circus…….freak show. That’s what it is. It’s not the animals or trapeze artists or lion tamers. It’s not even the clown car. No, Hollywood is the freak show. The bearded lady, lobster boy, the elephant man, etc.

It is also a hotbed of left wing group-think and activism that has kept the few conservatives who don’t get caught up in the hoopla, in the proverbial closet so to speak. Only a Hollywood legend such as Clint Eastwood can get away with what he did at the 2012 GOP convention and not suffer the consequences for it.

Still, it’s quite hilarious to see the kind of “self-reflection” going on in Hollywood circles over the last several years. Despite being all about the “tolerance” and happily celebrating every left wing canard known to man (global warming, abortion rights, green energy, anti-gun mania, etc) the industry has come under fire as of late for engaging in the worst kind of sins: racism and sexism.

In a culture where child raping fugitives like Roman Polanski are celebrated as heroes and movies about true heroes like Chris Kyle are bashed by leftists such as Michael Moore and Seth Rogan, it’s rather amusing to watch them eat their own when it becomes about racism and sexism. The mere mention of Republican presidential candidates in front of Hollywood elitists creates a volcanic eruption of spittle flecked comments about how they hate minorities, women and gays.

But with all of the recent talk, one cannot help but think much of their anger is actually projection. Do a Google search on racism and sexism in Hollywood and there are plenty of articles discussing just how bad it is. Emma Watson laughingly claimed to be a victim of sexism because in the 19 films she has appeared in, only 2 were directed by women.

But it was Matt Damon, who recently made some comments about gay actors in an interview that has become a pariah. Damon, always well known for his liberal activism specifically as it relates to the environment, said the following about gay actors:

“I think it must be really hard for actors to be out publicly,” he continues. “But in terms of actors, I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Essentially what Damon is saying to gay actors is: Stay in the closet.

What does the author of the piece, Kevin Fallon, have to say?

Shut up, Matt Damon.

I find the irony rather hilarious. Fallon writes the following as well:

The Oscar-winning actor’s career-long charm offensive came to a screeching halt this past week with two incredibly tone-deaf and woefully retrograde mini-scandals surrounding comments he’s made that were ill-advised at best—and bigoted at worst.

It is ironic because it is often conservatives who are saying to actors/actresses as well as musicians, “Shut up and act/sing.” Usually it is within the context of a Hollywood liberal saying something woefully stupid, which happens often. Still, it’s interesting to see the light being shined on these people. They want everybody to believe they are the enlightened. Yet nearly everything they do runs counter to the very views they espouse.

To his credit, Damon has not backed down from his comments. It’s merely his viewpoint and people are free to disagree. That’s the beauty of being in the United States.

We’ll see how long it lasts however. I suspect before too long, Damon will be issuing some kind of apology simply because the backlash will be too much. The Hollywood group-think culture won’t allow Damon to stand on his own.
