It needs a whole hell of lot more then that but it certainly would be a start....btw Republican definitely does NOT equal Conservative so when I am pushing 80+ and they would be CONSERVATIVES in the Congress it will only take a few bills to KILL the "healthcare" though I very much believe WE can kill it in the Senate NOW!

It will take a few years of some SERIOUS hardcore SMALL GOVERNMENT Congresscritters to alleviate the pressure that has been put on the backs of America but it can be done!

Good first shot!

Even if the courts are packed, and the will of the people is overturned by policy-making activist judges (a la Sotomayor), is there recourse?

I believe that, what? 2/3 of the Senate can overturn a presidential veto? When "painful" was mentioned, I immediately thought financial...

On the whole, I am relieved to hear from the two responders that the sentiment of not being afforded the luxury to rest is shared... at least among a few of us... :-)

I have visions of bumper stickers: "This Country Needs a Mulligan"

I maynot have been clear; I think Laffler was referring to the legislative work that would need to be done...overriding a veto would be another hurdle, and that's what I was getting at with my "painful" comment.

ObamaCare can't become a constitutional right without 3/4 state's approval, right?

I think one of the things we need to be doing whenever we can is correct people on the Constitution. An example: my cousin and I were in a conversation where she said that the Supreme Court gave us a particular right (can't remember what we were talking about). I knew what she meant--she doesn't really believe our rights come from the courts--but I corrected her, because it is exactly those "you know what I mean" moments that need to be corrected, so that we don't become apathetic about our Constitution. I hope I said that clearly.

And if he and the Democratic Senate manage to pack the courts, maybe irreversible when ObamaCare becomes a constitutional right.

As to your first question, I'd first say that "Conservative" and "Republican" are not currently interchangeable. Now, having said that, conservativism shouldn't need to purge the system of opposition like the socialists do (thinking of the recent OPM memo detailing the firing of GOP civil service workers). Conservatism, I think, usually wins in the marketplace of ideas, and people will gravitate towards it. Our problem is that the Republican party has A) too few conservatives, and B) even fewer who can articulate conservatism so that it enters the marketplace of ideas. I do think that should the GOP win back big, like they did in '94, they cannot rest. They must (and we need to make sure of this) push back and "un-do" most of what has been done to this country, going all the way back to the '30s.

As to your second question, I saw Art Laffler (I think?) on Beck a few weeks back, and he said it would only take him a long weekend to undo what's been done/will be done by this congress. Not sure how true that is, but given the right people, I think the legislation can be reversed. It would be painful, though, and we are much better off the less that needs to be "fixed."
