I understand your frustration and this should not even be a federal issue to begin with, but this is not simply a case of withholding life-giving water from people. It’s about diverting even more of a distant river away from its flow (and benefit to fishing interests and the local ecology) and toward agricultural interests that, by the way, already have diverted countless rivers and lakes.

There can be compromise on this issue, and it’s not going to come from Washington and certainly should never come from a “health care” bill.

But this is not a case of ‘water being parsed out to calm the populace,’ as you say; it’s a case of water being parsed out to boost the standing of two or three congressman so they can go back and promise more agricultural jobs (supposedly this will be the benefit) in an industry already rife with recent and illegal immigrants. Sounds like corporatism to me, not socialism.

healthcare votes to sell. It is an excellent example of natural selection at work. Had the smelt been able to evolve healthcare votes, they could have protected themselves. Now, there best hope is to develop lungs and feet instead.

At some point you would think someone with conscience in this mess would simply throw up their hands and walk away. It amazes me how deep corruption and the greed for power eats into people’s souls.

I watched Mary Landrieu attempt to justify what they are doing with Greta on FOX. She either really believes the crap (I’m thinking not) or is willing to be a good little bleached blonde soldier, as long as HER pockets get lined.

How come nobody is asking the obvious? Obvious things like that they are collecting ten years of taxes for five years of service just to break even on paper in the first decade. Doesn’t that mean the next decade we start off in the hole five years as soon as we cross into it? How about the argument they are taxing you for five years before any benefits go out in order to stave off this dire emergency? What kind of emergency is that?? It would be like the fire department coming to you and saying, “Listen, your house is going to burn down tomorrow.” And you say, “Good be here tomorrow.” And the fireman says, “Oh no, first we have to pass a ordinance, then collect taxes, then hire people to dig a water main, and then set up hydrants and THEN we can save your house, outside time is about five years.” You’d look at them like they had three heads.

Those two would be the arguments most people would get right away.
