While not the most important gaffe of the Obama administration, I think it was rather illustrative.

I find it hard to believe that there was absolutely no one that was in the loop, especially in NYC, that didn’t think it was an idiotic idea.

What I don’t find hard to believe, however, is that the individuals involved all followed their own career-protecting calculations:

a) Raise the idiocy of the flyover and hurt my career, or
b) Keep quiet and let someone else take the flak afterward.

My take on this is very different. I think all the other news outlets where only thinking of themselves, and it had nothing to do with FOX. If the White House were to have kept FOX out this time what would keep the White House from keeping any of the others out later. They only did it for their own future, not because they were defending FOX!

We saw this in the election when the FL news anchor asked why OBAMAISM was not SOCIALISM.

Who is an ex-journalist, and even she said and admitted that yes even though they are about 80% liberal, they should rally around the one journalist getting shut out, because what is more important to them is that they stay untouched, even if it is from the folks that they would support.

Don’t be. They live and breathe by pragmatism, not principles. It was clear to the few lib reporters who were capable of thinking one chess move ahead that what goes ’round comes ’round. The rest followed like lemmings, giving the outward appearance of principle and camaraderie.

Kudos (for once) to the MSM for standing up for their colleagues on another network. Most of them might think Fox leans right but I think they are seeing the bigger picture, for a change. Leopard1996 nailed it pretty well above with his comment about the poem “they came for _______ and I did nothing.”

But I remain skeptical of them, nonetheless. They got it this time. What about next time?

Well, they would be acting like real journalists if they actually reported the story, but I guess we have to let them take some baby steps first.
