Sarah Palin should give conservative women something inwhich to be hopeful.

My wife seems to really likes her.

rather a debate and that over opinion. I merely pulled the term out as I wrote the post. It's valid though. Sarah still has to go a long way in the eyes of some to be a viable presidential candidate for 2012. If she's still around after 2010 she'll be the front runner in my opinion.

However, I think she scares the bejeezus out of the MSM and the liberals so they'll go into attack mode between now and 2010 so she can't rally the troops around anyone. The interesting thing will be to see who she chooses to support and if it's for conservative only candidates or if she's just a water bearer for the republican party. Personally, I hope it's the former.

But both women were treated extremely bad by the press and the men remember Obama calling that reporter sweetie good gracious it is appalling the way women are treated in this society in that we are 52 percent of the vote and no that does not make us victims it makies us powerful and a force to be reckoned with and I want conservative women to be agressive and show the world that WE are part of the future of the party in a large and agressive way :-)

Sarah proved that with her life's story she is a wonderful example of a suck it up and get on with it conservative!

Jaded, one other good point that you made in your diary was that the contrast between how the right treated Palin versus how the left treated Hillary was striking. We must also hammer that point home to women voters as well.

on the Palin for President bandwagon BUT I have it on my car to piss off the Obama cars....along with my NOBAMA and NRA lifetime membership and take great glee in their looks! I am open to the best candidate no matter sex or color but they must be CONSERVATIVE and then must be ready to fight!

She is the perfect example of woman who has it all and what the women's movement was all about. She is a few short months set NOW on their heads! and that is a pleasure I cannot begin to express!

I understand what you are saying Jaded. Although I am a tad bit hesitant to blindly jump on the Sarah Palin for president bandwagon, I do think that she has been a great role model for women throughout the 2008 election cycle (she definitely practices what she preaches via her personal/family life). Regardless of what happens, I do think that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the future, and that she could serve as a good recruiting tool for women.

Jaded specifically stated in her diary that she thought Sarah is a good example of what a conservative woman should be - and that it is that role model that should be used to invite women to join conservatives.

Sarah has given a voice to what we have always known and in her we have an example to point to when we talk to younger women about conservatism.

She also did NOT say that Sarah should be the next Republican candidate.

She doesn’t need to be the next Presidential candidate unless she chooses to do so BUT she does need to be a major part of our party!

I think the following discussion shows that Republicans have not even begun to get their act together in regards with their own position and values. Everyone seems to be more than happy to duke it out with their own supporters.
There will always be a candidate that better supports what you think is important. The problem is, is that the Republican party is a conglomeration of different groups - just like the Democratic party is. This means that for the Rs, unfortunately, that there will be two or three major candidates that captivate the SoCons, the FiCons, and the DefCons - but only some mediocre, middle-of-the-road, inferior, almost-liberal can get enough play to win the party . . . look at the last election.
So, why are we so happy to argue with each other - without even hearing what the other is saying? Calling each other neanderthals, etc. That's real mature . . . and real helpful.

wrote about Fred Thompson during the primaries, nothing he did proved "street cred" with them. He was a Senator, not a Governor. He hadn't held elective office since 2002. He voluntarily decided not to run for his seat again instead of getting his butt whupped by somebody else, he initially supported CFR, even though he said it didn't turn out the way he had hoped and would support changing or getting rid of it. He supported overturning Roe v. Wade and turning it back over to the states instead of saying that he would outlaw abortions and arrest the mothers and doctors, etc. etc.

As to Huckabee, I'm not interested in defending him in any way. His proven street cred boils down to his fitness to host a talk show, nothing more.

The notion of street cred is strictly in the eye of the beholder and I can well imagine that we'll be having this argument over Sarah Palin for at least the next 4 years or so.

... have to build any "street cred" in 2000? Should people like Mike Huckabee or Fred Thompson have had to build "street cred" before they should have been considered last cycle?

I'm not saying that Sarah Palin is the answer for the Republican Party; rather, I think she represents a take-the-Presidency-back conservatism to a lot of people. And she embodies a genuine empowerment for conservative women.

That said, I'll see what happens over the next several years before I'll commit to anyone. It's too early for that, IMO, but it is neither too early nor to late to reflect on what Sarah Palin has meant and done for the GOP.

It is quite like if you feel every football game your team is not only fighting the other team but he refs that is what Republicans face every election.....the MSM has made this Party out to be the party of white fat disgusting rich men who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves......it has STUCK....WE must do an end round on them to get our message out and WE HAVE GREAT EXAMPLES of conservatism at its best with Palin, Steelel, Blackwell, Cao, Jindal and so many millions more.

They are the proof that conservatism is a GREAT message for all races and sexes BUT if we don't front and center them the MSM continue's on its merry path to defining us.

It is not identity politics to be the BEST AND BRIGHTEST and most EXCITING front and center for our party it is just good BUSINESS!

one is attracted to a candidate who shares a common trait such as skin color, gender, nationality, etc. I'll even throw in "shared values" .

Values, in my opinion, are not as easily dismissed as the other traits that I listed.

Those with values can not comprehend the popularity of Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy. A lack of values that came to light about ten years ago, sank Bob Livingston.

Sarah Palin is an accomplished politician, but her real appeal to me is that she lives a life that is consistent with her values.

That women have been hoodwinked by radical feminism is very apparent in Jaded's diary. Sarah Palin represents a refreshing departure that is not reflected in your comment regarding how Jaded might view Hillary Clinton.

There have been comparisons in the two threads between "blank slates" Obama and Palin. I would posit that Palin's character and values are far more evident than anything we have witnessed from Obama or Hillary Clinton for that matter. I don't have to be more specific than that.

I think that is what is setting many off on this one.

Yes, I understand your point. In fact, I recommended your diary specifically because of it. However, I think you're missing the point mbecker is making.

To paraphrase, and feel free to jump in if I get it wrong (like you need my permission) the republican party has never (unlike the hypocrites on the left) been much for what sex or color your skin is so long as you carry the flag. Conservatives (republicans and conservatives not necessarily being the same thing) are the same so long as you recognize the three legs of the stool.

Unfortunately, the above is not how we are portrayed by the MSM and the liberals, but it is generally the truth.

If you disagree with that point I don't think I can help you and will refrain from further comment in favor of those who have a better tact.

I didn't become Jaded by politics overnight....for whatever reason some get this diary and some do not....the point is not Sarah exactly but what she enables the women of this party to do and that is to have an example of what a REAL women does and that is works and raises children and stays married and has a child with her husband she knows will have issues in the future but she had him anyway.....those are conservative traits that need to be shown to young women everywhere....AN EXAMPLE....good god you all would have thought I had dictated that its Sarah now and forever I NEVER SAID THAT.

I did say that liberals over the last 40+ years have made men out to be the enemy of a woman who wants it all I see that it has stuck in a few men’s minds too!

So once again and please HEAR ME.....Sarah Palin is the BEST example that the conservative movement has been handed to NEGATE the National Organization of liberal Women’s BS for the young ladies who are coming up behind us older women....period!

If Sarah runs I will give her the same amount of attention as I will if Jindal runs or Cantor (though he voted for the crap sandwich) and a litany of others.

Suffice it to say the men on this site today have been overly SENSITIVE (YES SENSITIVE) to this woman and what she means to this party for the reasons I expressed.

I have to agree with Mr. 908 on at least one point. We simply must know more about Sarah before she can truly become the standard bearer.

Yes, I joined TeamSarah. Yes, I believe she has a chance, chance mind you, of affecting the leadership and direction of the Republican party. Yes, I want her to succeed.

No, I will not blindly follow her. She's got three years to build her street cred if she even wants the job. Her gender has nothing to do with this, but I do get the point of your post that her rise is an opportunity for the female conservative to find a POTENTIAL role model. I hope she measures up to the challenge, because unlike liberals conservatives try to discard the flawed and unwholesome when they surface.

what are you talking about?
I am not a diarist. I never registered to be a diarist but I did get a password with my name. Probably when I donated a couple of bucks when redstate had a funraising for a new version, I automatically got a password.
Posting a comment on Sarah Palin and Pro-Life is trolling?
Well, goodbye, redstaters diarists. I don't belong...
