Thank you Senator McCain for being a Maverick and making an unexpected pick.

Not identity politics BUT Conservative politics

I have to say that I have not been this excited by a VP pick since Cheney. I as a woman did NOT need the VP to be a woman and as and American Indian I did NOT need the pick to be a minority. I as a Conservative NEEDED the pick to be a Conservative. I have read up on Gov. Sarah Palin in the last few hours and am impressed beyond my wildest dreams.

I have not been a McCain fan and I was literally supporting him because Obama is the WORST kind of liberal a fascist liberal. I love my country, I love my military, and he has not shown me he loves either. I have respected John McCain for his humbleness and graciousness in winning the Republican primary whereas Obama has shown neither….he believes he DESERVES it and I am here to tell him he does not.

To Governor Palin I say WELL DONE! Great wife and mother and with an 80 percent approval rating in her state obviously a GREAT Governor. I appreciated her graciousness in mentioning Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton in her speech this afternoon. Like Senator McCain she has raised the level of discourse in this election which is not something that can be said of the other side. I personally like a knock down drag out election process BUT I also am proud when Republicans show the other side respect EVEN knowing it will not be returned.

I want to again Thank Senator John McCain for giving Conservatives and in the same pick the Religious Right something to be excited about. WELL PLAYED SIR, well played.

Had the same feelings regarding McCain, but great choice on Gov. Palin, energized me enough to donate to the RNC and volunteer my time to the call centers.

I donated to the RNC also...first time 2 years.

Need to donate to show approval?

ekevlar11 (Diary) Friday, August 29th at 4:26PM EST (link)

The RNC should rack up large numbers shortly if this pick is appreciated by a wider margin than just those on Red State. Donate!

Erik

Yes we can and we should donate to McCain or...

Great picture and tells me that this woman is a better American than Obama could ever desire to be.

Gustav is drowning out coverage

The MSM has wall-to-wall coverage of Gustav this weekend. Expect that to last throughout convention week.

As a woman, I didn’t need McCain to pick a woman. I am thrilled though to have a Ronald Reagan conservative on the ticket.

As gamecock said in another diary, I don’t care about their time in Washington nearly as much as I care about how they are wired.

BO could be in DC for as long as Robert Byrd, and I would hold him in as much contempt as I hold Byrd. I respect McCain, even though he’s certainly made me mad before, but of what I know about Palin, I’m crazy about her.

And it’s not her femaleness, because Kay Bailey Hutchinson would have made me weak in the knees.

If you're going to make an unconventional pick

kowalski (Diary) Sunday, August 31st at 2:36AM EST (link)

If you’re going to make an unconventional and unexpected pick like McCain did, the tremendous downside risk is picking someone who:

1) Can’t live up to the requirements of the office or handle the job, and gives people that impression the first time they open their mouths.

2) Relies on the identity-politics angle of the choice to the exclusion or as a cover for their other weaknesses.

Palin does neither, and the warm reception she received in my home town, across party lines, combined with her manifest intelligence and qualifications says to me that she has what it takes to be Vice President by the trainload full.

If you’re going to make a maverick choice, you pick someone unexpected because they’re better in addition to being unexpected. That’s Sarah Palin, folks. I’m thrilled by McCain’s choice on the level of her sheer competence, and I’m vicariously happy for women all across America as well.

Not so conservative women beginning to take notice

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Sunday, August 31st at 7:56AM EST (link)

We were never going to get the rank and file Hillary supporters, but the independent minded Hillary leaners are taking notice

Camille Paglia:

“That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”

Margery Eagan:

“When I heard the news Friday, I was incensed. Total tokenism. Pandering. Insulting. I’ve calmed down – a little. Now I realize: Selecting her is semi-tokenism and partial pandering based on McCain’s insulting assumption that for millions of female voters, it’s all about estrogen and payback.

First, the good Palin stuff: There’s something to be said for having a serious woman on the ticket. Palin is an achiever. Through Obama, black boys have their role model. Through Palin little girls, black and white, have theirs… What’s riskier? McCain dying, which is unlikely, or Obama winning, meaning President No-Experience takes over Day 1?

Anybody who thinks this was just a play

Flagstaff (Diary) Monday, September 1st at 11:25PM EST (link)

for women’s votes or just for disaffected Hillary voters has it completely wrong.

The more I consider it, the more I think this was a perfect pick. No other VP would have been better, including my favorite, Mitt Romney. It was a stroke of genius, providing there are no more surprises, which I don’t expect to see.

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. Palin Pick an Act of Political Suicide

larissan04 Tuesday, September 2nd at 9:56PM EST (link)

I have to disagree with many about the Palin pick for VP. This woman is no more exp to be president then obama. Mcain has already started to slide in the polls. This is a disaster. the election is just around the corner and Mcain went and picked a candidate that is not ready to be president. Her pro life credentials are not enough. keep in mind, we’ve had 3 pro life presidents and roe v wade is STILL the law of the land. it would have been better to make the safe pick or a romney or guliani and get 70% of what you want then lose the election. This election is over, and Mcain has handed the white house over to barack obama, the most left wing candidate to ever run for president.

outrageous!

Palin is far, far more qualified to be President than Obama. He has spent the last week trying to prove he is more experienced than OUR #2.

Obama is the panicky one. How about you?

Nope, not suicide. It's an act of political homicide.
