Liberal Translation of “Geithner won’t rule out new taxes for middle class”
To get the economy back on track, will President Barack Obama have to break his pledge not to raise taxes on 95 percent of Americans? In a “This Week” exclusive, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner told me, “We’re going to have to do what’s necessary.”
Liberal Translation:
Bend over everyone here comes the taxman.
“We have to bring these deficits down very dramatically,” Geithner told me.
Liberal Translation:
By taxing the hell out of everyone so we can keep the liberal spending spree going.
“And that’s going to require some very hard choices.”
Liberal Translation:
Hard choices like – beenies & weenies or mac & cheese for dinner.
“We will not get this economy back on track, recovery will be not strong and sustained, unless we convince the American people that we are going to have the will to bring these deficits down once recovery is firmly established,” he said.
Liberal Translation:
We will keep spending and require the American taxpayer to give us more.
While Geithner told me, “There are signs the recession is easing,” he warned that, “We have a ways to go.”
Liberal Translation:
You have 3 1/2 years of more liberal spending suckers.
“I want to emphasize the basic reality that unemployment is very high in this country,” the secretary said.
Liberal Translation:
American business is in full retreat because of Obamanomics.
But, he underlined that the administration is “going to do what is necessary to bring growth back on track.”
Liberal Translation:
Growth for government. That stimulus money will flood out the door and grow government even larger with programs that conservatives will never be able to kill.
“Everybody understands that we cannot have our financial system go back to the practices that brought this economy to the brink of collapse,” he told me.
Liberal Translation:
Even though it was democratic policies like the CRA in conjunction with corrupt practices at Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac that caused the housing crisis and the collapse of the economy.
“It is going to take fundamental reform.”

reddog53 (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 1:53PM EST (link)Ever since the famous Town Hall in which President Clinton was asked to cite any example where a government successfully spent its way out of a recession, they continue to insist this is the way.
So we’re doing the ‘Stimulus That Hasn’t Yet’ and already they’re declaring the recession is over.
In classic hypocrisy, they bent the definition of recession to be the point at which unemployment started to rise (Dec 07) rather than a decline in economic output…and now that economic output is declining less (but still negative), they’re switching back to that definition.
Bottom Line: Liberals change words to mean what they want them to mean, while the rest of us tend to use truth.
555! Great analysis izoneguy

We need to keep asking the Debtocrats the same question that reddog53 cited: Name one nation that taxed and spent its way out of a recession to prosperity.
Of course, the answer is: there isn’t one.
Thank you.

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 9:55PM EST (link)The keys to putting in context the stock market and the overall economy are that while EXISTING businesses are increasing output and slowing the shedding of expensive labor while replacing them with technology applications (the creative destruction of recessions in the market that increases efficiency long term), and some of the billions printed by the Fed is getting spent, the anti-business policies of the ObamaDems and prospects of the effect of the huge deficits and Fed money re inflation and high taxes and regulations still have investors on strike so that no NEW businesses are being started.
This puts a low ceiling on the market rally and GDP growth potential which, together with the still not at bottom housing market in large parts of the country makes the prospect of double dip recession quite high.
And even if we avoid the double dip, we have no reason to expect sustained econ growth of 2% or higher for more than a few quarters.
Moreover, the recovery will be essentially jobless.
Government can’t create jobs. They can hire employees that take money out of private sector workers pockets in taxes, thus leaving less funds to spend that would cause private sector jobs that PAY taxes or that lower the value of the dollar.
Only the private sector can increase jobs and wealth and raise living standards and the government has escalated the war on capital and wealth creation that started when the Dems took Congress in 2007.

They already implemented a tax increase of $2,500 per middle class family
bk (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 2:01PM EST (link)by reneging on the campaign promise that his health care plan would reduce premiums by that amount. So any middle class tax increase they’re talking about now is over and above that.

LOL - and Geithner was the one that blamed Turbo-Tax on his non-payment of taxes
izoneguy (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 3:30PM EST (link)I am a small business and have to pay my accountant to do my corporate and personal income taxes. Turbo-Tax might work for someone with a W-2 job who does not have to use all the different tax tables & forms. So to hear Geithner on national TV talking about raising taxes is about as comical as it gets.
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

exactly and also, given already passed tobacco taxes and the House passed cap and trade
Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 10:19PM EST (link)Taxes have already been raised on the poor and middle class via tobacco and if cap and trade were to pass the taxes of carbon, etc would be passed on to the poor and middle class to such an extent that it would greatly reduce standards of living and be a direct assault on the poor and American prosperity generally.
