Congress Turning FREEways into Toll Roads!

In another end-around maneuver, Congress is planning to raise the taxes on the entire country by turning existing freeways into toll roads with SB 1813 and HR 7. Terri Hall of TexasTurf.org is raising the red flag and calling on all Americans to contact their Senators and members of Congress to put a stop to this madness.

It has been 7 years since Congress passed the last federal highway bill. Now it is racing through Congress at the speed of light — why? Because they want to sell-off our public roads to private corporations, raise your taxes through tolls, and lift the ban on imposing tolls on existing highways. There are 500 toll projects being contemplated in Texas alone!

An amendment to allow tolls on ALL existing interstates in all 50 states is expected to be presented on the floor by Senator Carper of Delaware. Imposing tolls on existing freeways is a massive DOUBLE TAX — charging motorists an additional tax, a toll, to use what they’ve already built and paid for!

Here is part of an email from Terri and a call to action:

Hello fellow patriots,

We need your help spreading the word about the anti-taxpayer federal highway bill coming before Congress this week. It’s going to take a Texas-sized uproar to STOP Congress from selling off our infrastructure to foreign entities like Cintra (same playbook as the Trans Texas Corridor), from borrowing more money from the Federal Reserve to lend to states to prop-up toll roads that can’t pay for themselves, and from imposing tolls on existing FREEways in ALL 50 states!

Contact your Senator: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm (Reference SB 1813)

Contact your Representative: http://www.house.gov/representatives/ (Reference HR 7)

In Liberty,

- Terri

Can you imagine the impact on YOU and your family as a result of this legislation? What is a loaf of bread going to cost you after it has to go through 500 miles of toll roads? 1000 miles? What is your commute to work going to cost you after 30+ miles of toll roads?

America, it is up to you to stop this insanity. Contact your Senators and Congressmen.

Joe Straus – Texas TEA Party Public Enemy Number 1

TEAParty911.com recently launched a new blog as part of their site and they really came out swinging. Their first post on Joe Straus does not leave any doubt that Texas TEA parties are not happy with the Texas Speaker of the House. Also receiving harsh criticism were incumbent Senators Robert Nichols and Bob Deuell.

Joe Straus, Texas TEA Party Public Enemy Number 1” details some of the disastrous results of the 81st and 82nd legislative sessions under the “leadership” of Joe Straus. I found it extremely interesting how Straus was elected to the speakership in the first place – he had the support of only 11 Republicans and all 65 Democrats to defeat then Speaker Tom Craddick. What kind of “conservative” receives unanimous support from Democrats?

The post also goes into detail on how Straus and company were going to use redistricting to punish his rivals as alleged by Representative Bryan Hughes. The matter was brought before the House Ethics Committee, but Committee Chair and recipient of $42K in campaign contributions from Straus, Chuck Hobson found no evidence of ethics violations. Strangely, freshman Representative Erwin Cain, who voted against Straus’ speakership, found his district eliminated in the redistricting process.

State Senator Robert Nichols Fails Texas Voters” shows a school-like report card with the grades of Nichols as stated by numerous conservative organizations such as Eagle Forum, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, and the Heritage Alliance. Nichols is portrayed as the kid who has to come home from school and show his parents (Texas voters) his failing report card. I got a chuckle out of the suggestion that Nichols should be sent to an alternative school – the Democrat Party.

In “Bob Deuell vs. Bob Hall”, the author brings to our attention specific pieces of not so conservative legislation that Deuell has either sponsored or supported. One of the comments on this post points out that Deuell is actually very conservative, but only on two issues – right to life, and gun rights issues. Once upon a time in Texas, if a candidate was solid on pro-life issues and gun rights, it would be enough to get that candidate elected. However, with the arrival of the TEA Party and other grassroots conservative groups, candidates are now more scrutinized on fiscal issues. Deuell apparently does not measure up to TEA Party standards with a conservative rating on economic issues in 2009 of only 32% by both the Texas Eagle Forum and the Heritage Alliance. Deuell scored slightly higher with the Young Conservatives of Texas in 2009 receiving a 41% conservative rating.

The author of this post then introduces Bob Hall as an alternative to the poor fiscally conservative ratings of incumbent Senator Bob Deuell. Bob Hall is the founder of the Canton TEA Party and was recently chosen as one of the top ten conservative challengers by CPAC-Texas voters. It will now be in the hands of Texas voters to decide which is the right Bob for the job.

The TEA Party 911 blog looks like it is going to be an interesting blog to follow.

Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll Gives More Texans a Voice in the Primary with Addition of Text Poll

The text poll feature will be available to all Texans, with results to be reported separately from in-person voting.

HOUSTON – JANUARY 11:  In order to help Texans have a voice in the presidential primary process, Saddle Up Texas organizers have created a free text poll to accompany the in-person straw poll at the Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll event this weekend.

The expanded polling will allow voters unable to attend the event to participate in choosing a candidate.  “For too long, Texas has had no voice in choosing presidential candidates.  We want to change all that,” said Organizer Dale Huls, who spearheaded the text polling effort.  Huls and his fellow organizers believe this expanded polling effort will cause candidates to take notice, and may inspire similar efforts in other states in the future.

The poll will also include the same races featured on the ballot for voters at the Saddle Up Texas event.  Text options include the U.S. Senate race, U.S. House races, Texas Senate races and Texas House races.  Voters will not be charged for voting in the text poll, and will only be allowed to vote using phones with Texas area codes, and may vote only once in each race.

The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll text option will be available from noon Thursday, January 12th to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14th.  Instructions for voting in the straw poll are available at http://www.saddleuptexaspoll.com/text , including a link to help voters find their district numbers if needed.

Results of the straw poll will be announced at the same time as the in-person vote results, 5 p.m. Saturday, January 14th.

The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll organization is a registered 527 non-profit corporation. It consists of an extensive coalition of motivated volunteer organizers. Our volunteers devote their time, effort and resources in order to bring this event to fruition. The organization wants to champion Texas’ family oriented culture and hospitality and demonstrate Texas’ influence to a national audience. Texas has the second largest population in the United State and sends the second largest number of votes to the Electoral College. Our mission is to effect positive influence on the Presidential Primary through the collective voices of the concerned citizens of Texas who participate in the organization’s upcoming state wide straw poll event.

Political Corruption Run Amok

Here is an article that was written last year, but clearly points out more of the same political corruption that is coming to light today. All of the sponsors of this bill received campaign contributions from the two companies who would profit from this legislation. Oh wait, my mistake, one didn’t, but he never ran for office because he was appointed to fill Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat. The part I like the most is the part about the lobbying expenses which miraculously doubled just prior to the introduction to this legislation. The bill I’m referring to is Senate bill S.510 which eventually passed in the form of H.R. 2751. Read the article and decide for yourself – was this in the interest of consumer safety or was this in the interest of lining pockets?

Senate Bill S.510 – DC Declares War on Grandma!

Do you remember going to Grandma’s house and sitting down to her magnificent home cooked meals with the whole family and reaching across the table to get a slice of those fresh home-grown garden tomatoes? What about going out to the garden with Grandma and picking fresh okra from her famous okra “trees” that were so tall you had to reach up and bend them over in order to pick the okra? These and other memories just like them would be exactly that, memories, if S.510 is passed by Congress. Senate Bill S.510 would make it illegal to grow, share, trade, or sell home-grown food. World renowned microbiologist, human rights activist, and Canada Health whistle blower, Dr. Shiv Chopra said of the bill, “If accepted [S.510] would preclude the public’s right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature makes. It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one’s choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God.”

The primary sponsor of the bill is Illinois Senator, “Dick” Durban (D), along with 17 co-sponsors including 8 Republicans. According to the official summary of Senate Bill S.510 posted on opencongress.org, section 101 is summarized as follows:

Amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) to expand the authority of the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to inspect records related to food, including to:
(1) allow the inspection of records of food that the Secretary reasonably believes is likely to be affected in a similar manner as an adulterated food; and
(2) require that each person (excluding farms and restaurants) who manufactures, processes, packs, distributes, receives, holds, or imports an article of food permit inspection of his or her records if the Secretary believes that there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to such food will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

The two key phrases that stand out in my mind are “expand the authority” and “each person.”  Under the current Congress, when I hear the term “expand the authority”, I immediately translate that to mean “to take over.” Apparently, the federal government is not satisfied with controlling the banking industry, the automobile industry, the health-care industry, the energy industry (Cap & Trade), and the financial industry; now the feds want to control the entire food supply of the United States including Grandma’s garden because of the use of the nonspecific term “each person.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, renowned Food Safety News interviewer Helena Bottemiller sat down to interview a staunch proponent of S.510, Dr. David Acheson. During this interview Ms. Bottemiller suggested, “There is a lot of small farmer opposition to the food safety legislation, the small producer and small farmers are afraid of what they see as burdensome regulations…” In response, Dr. Acheson stated, “I think the small guys are looking at this and thinking ‘we can’t do this…we’re not sophisticated enough to do it.’ That might apply to some really small people, in which case they shouldn’t be selling food. The bar we have to set is that if you want to sell food to the public, there is a minimum standard to which you need to be held. Nobody is exempt from that, I feel very strongly about that. There is the naiveté that local equals safer and I just so don’t subscribe to that. Even if you’re growing stuff in your own backyard you don’t, frankly, know what the local rabbit has done on the produce the night before you ate it. I think exemptions will get us into trouble. They will undermine food safety, and they will be incredibly difficult to implement because everyone is going to want an exemption. Now that sounds a little bit hard, and maybe somebody reading this might interpret what I said as that I don’t have a heart with regards to small business but that’s not true at all. I think small businesses have a critical role to play and we should be encouraging them through federally sponsored education programs so that they can continue in their small business and they can do it right. That’s the solution here.” Let me translate for you – America, you are not smart enough to wash your produce before eating it and only government run farms will be equipped with the technology to keep Thumper from urinating on the vegetables.

The only reason to pass legislation like this is power and money. The power aspect of this is simple; an unelected government official will have the power to make the rules and penalties regarding the entire food supply of the United States including Grandma’s garden (Michelle Obama will probably get to keep her garden). Look at history – control the food supply, control the people. Next, who stands to profit from this legislation? With the disappearance and eventual extinction of small farms, local produce stands, and Grandma’s garden, I would look at who is left – companies like Monsanto and DuPont. I find it interesting that between 2000 and 2010, 17 of the 18 sponsors of S.510 received campaign contributions from Monsanto’s PAC or DuPont’s PAC or both [Senator Roland Burris (D, IL) being the only exception, BUT Burris never campaigned for Senator; he was appointed to replace Obama’s vacant seat]. I find it interesting that between 2008 and 2009, Monsanto spent over $17 million lobbying legislators, which is more than double any other two year period on record for Monsanto outside of those years. I find it interesting that DuPont’s expenditures for lobbying during that same period was almost $9 million, which is almost double any other period on record for DuPont outside of those years. Inflation? I find it extremely interesting that S.510 was introduced in 2009.

Of course I would never suggest impropriety here, but what I would definitely suggest is this – follow the money and you will find the motive. The government is clearly launching another assault on personal freedom under the guise of “ensuring public safety.” The next step in the juggernaut of “comprehensive reforms” is for the government to control the food supply of America – control the food, control the people. America, it’s your move.

Tea Party 911 Supports Ken Paxton for Texas Senate

As a Texas State Representative, Ken Paxton was named the  most conservative Texas Legislator by the Young Conservatives of Texas during  the 82nd Legislature. Ken’s 95% conservative rating earned him YCT’s  top spot this year. Paxton has historically made the “A” honor roll on YCT’s  ratings, earning a 90, 97, 96, 97, and 95 since he was first elected to the  legislature in 2003.

Paxton consistently rates extremely high among conservative  organizations such as his 100% rating in 2009 by the Texans for Fiscal  Responsibility, a 100% rating in 2009 by the Heritage Alliance for his  positions on social issues, and a 100% in 2009 by the Texas Eagle Forum. With  ratings like these, it is hard to dispute that Ken Paxton is one of the most  conservative Representatives in Texas.

Because of his high conservative ratings, honesty,  integrity, and proven record of standing on principle rather than politics as  demonstrated during the Texas House Speaker race, TeaParty911.com proudly  supports Candidate Ken Paxton for Texas Senate in District 8.

The Tea Party Express/CNN Debate from the Third Row

First of all, I would like to thank the Tea Party Express and (I can’t believe I’m typing these words) CNN for hosting the first ever Tea Party Presidential Debate in history. I would have loved watching it on television, but being there in the third row center stage allowed me the opportunity to see things from an entirely different perspective. From my vantage point, I could see the facial expressions and body language of all the candidates regardless of what was shown on CNN. Therefore, I’d like to share my thoughts on the debate and welcome your feedback in comparison.

Wolf Blitzer: I have to start with CNN’s moderator, Wolf Blitzer. I must say, Wolf Blitzer did a great job of doing his job. It was apparent that his goal was to provoke and get sound bites that could be used against the candidates and the Tea Party. He was successful at both. Because of the questions asked, several of the candidates were afforded the opportunity to take their shots at Governor Perry which have been in the news all week. The “should society just let him die” question provoked a response from a couple of people in the audience that has taken center stage in the liberal media and being spun as the “Tea Party Cheers the Death of the Uninsured.”

Michele Bachmann: While many of the pundits are saying that Bachmann is losing steam in her campaign and she did little to improve that during the debate, I completely disagree. This was, in my opinion, Bachmann’s best debate performance to date. Her conviction, tone, and mannerisms when answering questions left little doubt that she meant what she said. When Bachmann went after Perry over the HPV vaccination and crony capitalism, this showed the audience and America that she can get in there and mix it up when necessary.

John Huntsman: All I could do while John Huntsman was speaking was to be reminded of the Peanuts cartoon. Does everyone remember the teacher from Peanuts? All I could hear was “Wha, wha, wha wha wha.” Sorry John, that’s the best I can do for you. His answers left me wondering what the “R” after his name actually stands for.

Ron Paul: Congressman Paul was one of the few who did not sound scripted. His answers were quick and unafraid. However, Paul’s discussion of Iran, 9/11, and terrorism, was one of the points where being in the audience was an advantage. There were seven candidates on the stage who in unison cocked their heads at an angle and looked at each other with facial expressions of utter amazement. Paul’s stance on these issues also drew a chorus of boos from the audience. On the other hand, Paul’s answers regarding domestic policy drew cheers from the audience. Gauging from the response of the audience it’s domestic issues yes, constitutional issues yes, but foreign policy no.

Tea Party Cheers Death of the Uninsured at the CNN Tea Party Debate?

The Tea Party cheers for the death of the uninsured at the CNN/Tea Party Express Presidential Debate? That’s not the way I saw it, so I’ve got to throw the BS flag on this one. Watch the video for yourself and we’ll go from there.

I was there. My seat was in the third row center stage. There was NO applause after someone shouted out “Yes!”, as most of the media is reporting. What I heard were two shouts and could not tell if it was from the same person or if it was two different people. The rest of the crowd was looking around to see if they could identify who this jerk was. However, the left-wing sharks were cunningly circling waiting for someone to chum the waters, and unfortunately someone did.

First of all, we do not have the identity of the person who shouted out. This was a mixed audience and could have been anyone. Left-wing plant, CNN cameraman, or misguided Tea Party member, it really does not matter. What does matter is how insignificant was the event and how much hay is being made from it by an eternally left wing media.

Could it have been one of the “Traveling Paulinians”? I’m not talking about your typical Ron Paul supporter. I’m talking about the ones who travel where ever Ron Paul goes sporting the Ron Paul shirts, buttons, and signs – even though the audience at the CNN debate was asked not to wear buttons or carry signs. I’m talking about the ones who like to disrupt events, stuff the straw polls, and have forgotten how to take a bath. If I had to bet on any of the above choices, this is where I would put my money. They are deadheads for Paul in every sense of the word.

Nonetheless, for anyone including me, to jump to conclusions until the identity of the person or persons who shouted is established, is purely speculation at this point. However, facts are seldom a determining factor to the lame-stream media types, and the Debbie Wasserman-Schultz types in reporting or commenting on a story. On the other hand, I completely understand the strategy – personalize it (the Tea Party), demonize it (the Tea Party), and try to destroy it (the Tea Party). It is all in Saul Alinsky’s play book “rules for radicals”. The lack of answers, plans, or success, has left the liberals with no other choice except to rely on smear tactics. Let me remind you lefties out there, it is easy to hold an entire group of people to a standard or principle when you have no standards or principles yourselves. I wonder how you would measure up using the same scale you use to measure others…
