No Time Charlie

A great ad the people of Louisiana need to see.

Alan Grayson Townhall Tonight

Alan Grayson, who has been hiding from his constituents, decided to do a last minute townhall tonight at a union hall. He waited until the last minute to announce it to anyone other than the unions.

You can get the details here.

The meeting will be at 7:45 p.m. Monday at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 606 Union Hall at 820 Virginia Drive, [Orlando, FL].

Beyond questions about healthcare, our RS Insider — one of our Capitol Hill sources we let blog here — has some questions people should ask Alan Grayson tonight:

Congressman Grayson, do you believe, as your senior policy advisor Matthew Stoller does, that the Anti-Defamation League is “a crazy racist institution”?

Congressman Grayson, do you believe, as your senior policy advisor Matthew Stoller does, that Senator John McCain is “a crazy cancer-ridden dishonest madman”?

Congressman Grayson, do you believe, as your senior policy advisor Matthew Stoller does, that the U.S. military is a treasonous institution that will “undermine Obama unless he pursues neoconservative policies”?

Show up tonight at 820 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL. Ask Congressman Grayson about healthcare and ask him about his senior policy advisor.

Sheila Jackson-Lee’s (D-TX) Constituents are Important - Just Not More Important Than Her Cell Phone Conversations [UPDATED]

The arrogance of Democratic lawgivers is plain to see any time they step in front of a camera or microphone, but never is it on such full display as when they actually have to deal with their constituents.

Take, for example, this video of Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson-Lee, who is willing to allow her constituents the honor of being in her presence, just so long as they don’t gripe too much about the fact that she’s talking on her freaking cell phone while one of them is raising a Constitutional and ethical concern about legislation she is supporting in her constituents’ name in Congress.

Go to the four minute mark on the video below and watch until you can’t take any more. [UPDATE]: We’ve shaved it down to the relevant parts: below is the new video. - Moe Lane

And they wonder — they honestly wonder — why people are outraged?

Amazing.

I will. Actually, I won’t. Or perhaps I will.

"Read my lips: no new taxes."

Promoted from the diaries by Jeff.

Is “make up your mind” really all that much to ask of President Obama?

Evidently so. At yesterday’s townhall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Obama’s oft-repeated “money line” was that tax raises are “painful” and unneccessary, and that tax cuts were awesome.

Take, for example, the following quotes from the transcript, accompanied with video.

Tax cuts are awesome:

That’s why we acted as fast as we could to pass a Recovery Act that would stop the freefall. And I want to make sure everybody understands what we did.

One-third of the money in the Recovery Act went to tax cuts that have already started showing up in the paychecks of about 500,000 working families in New Hampshire — (applause) — 500,000 families in New Hampshire. We also cut taxes for small businesses on the investments that they make, and over 300 New Hampshire small businesses have qualified for new loans backed by the Recovery Act.

Tax increases are bad:

That Town Hall Rant Wasn’t the Only Time David Scott (D-GA-13) Has Acted that Way

Promoted from diaries - Moe Lane.

Very rarely do I get to actually talk about my own hometown in a discussion on national politics. Very rarely are the goings on of Douglasville significant enough to merit a mention beyond the local papers.

However, that rant by Representative David Scott was one of the exceptions to the rule. As someone who spends a good portion of his year in that district, I can tell you that his little tantrum wasn’t the only time that Scott has behaved in ways unbecoming of one granted the public trust that comes with being a Congressman. There’s a similar incident where someone showed up at his house to discuss the healthcare issue with him:

Remember these lyrics when you go to your townhall event

A friend sends along the suggestion that we all remember the lyrics to “Look for the Union Label”.

Look for the union label
when you are buying that coat, dress or blouse.

Remember somewhere our union’s sewing,
our wages going to feed the kids, and run the house.

We work hard, but who’s complaining?
Thanks to the I.L.G. we’re paying our way!

So always look for the union label,
it says we’re able to make it in the U.S.A.!

When the union thugs start harassing you and trying to make it look like you are disrupting the townhall, just start singing “look for the union label” and remind everyone who the real thugs are.

Where is your Townhall?

We’re going to lock this calendar at the top of the site. I’m compiling all the townhalls into it.

Until it is locked up top, you can view it in this post. I’ll be adding a heck of a lot more data tomorrow.

A failure so epic, it was almost a success.

Promoted from the diaries by Jeff

In recent weeks, the healthcare debate has become increasingly heated, with both sides preparing to make an example of the final results.  Republicans want to make Obama’s push for socialized Healthcare his “Waterloo”, and Democrats want to use it to reaffirm their constituent support, which has been waning as of late.

Lately, politicians have taken to holding townhalls on the Healthcare issue.

While one might be led to believe that these meetings are held to solicit public opinion, they are instead being used in feeble attempts to sway public opinion.  So far, these endeavors have been met with comically disastrous results.

On April 3rd, Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI) held a “Healthcare Listening Session.”  As you might imagine, the conservatives in attendance were extremely uncivil.  They took up their torches and pitchforks and with a rallying cry, ran through the town, flipped over cars and lit them afire, ending the night with a hostage situation.

Okay, I exaggerated just a little.  But make no mistake, these people were downright vicious, and the Brown County Democrats say they will not rest until these “unruly radicals” are brought to justice:

This radical group came over two hours before the event took place to pack the auditorium and make sure no one who actually wanted to have debate or ask a legitimate question of the Congressman could.

They showed up Two.  Hours.  Early. How…radical.  In this day and age, how do we tolerate people who show up early to get good seats?

Politico Smears ‘ObamaCare’ Opponents

Promoted by Erick. What the heck is an “anti-reform” protestor. No, it is “anti-Obamacare” protestor.

Politico, ever the objective source of political news and analysis, has provided a handy list of “5 Things to Watch During the Recess.”  One in particular caught my attention because it was so egregiously loaded with bias:

#4: Who Will Come to the Tea Parties?
