This post is in reference to the concept presented in ‘this post’.
First off, allow me to commend Ron Robinson’s intent! The party should be all about outreach and contact and activism, but Republicans, by our very nature are not activists. Activism in Republican circles always amounts to a great start and a quick fade. Protesters do not stand up and march for the proper, they stand up and march for the absurd. It is the absurd that drives them. Republicans make great planners but horrible do-ers. I certainly hope you find the few activists out there and enlist them to do the leg work and that results in something worthwhile, but allow me, if you will, to muse over the real reason the Internet has not been a Republican medium:
The Ning network, you have used as the platform for your effort has a wide variety of splinter groups using it. Everything from Sarah Palin’s support group to Resistnet to many other highly topic focused outraged people who use it to post complaints, spin conspiracy theories as if they are fact, and otherwise clam up and into their own shells.
The Republican party needs a focused, central activism site. That should be the GOP’s job. I do not believe the solution to their not doing that is to usurp the effort. I believe it is beholden upon the members of the party to make the GOP do their job and to then place individual efforts on doing exactly what the liberal socialists have done, only do it with truth.
As you are undoubtedly aware, a web presence is only as good as its traffic and its traffic is only as good as its hook, its purpose, its relevance and its freshness. Your concept is to use the web as a meeting place for activists who would then reach out into the real world and activate passion in others. Excellent idea!
What the Republican party has been lacking, severely, is the use of the web for what the web is. A medium of instant information. Republicans have literally lost the battle for focusing thought, lost the battle for controlling the story.
I firmly believe it is time for the Republican net community to work the web, instead of using the web to work other Republicans.
RedState is a great source of Republican communication, but it is like preaching to the faithful, with the occasional non-believer thrown in to mix it up a bit. Republicans need to to continue to do that, but Republicans need to reach out to the web reader that is not of the fold, to use the web for its instant communication power, to mold public opinion, to control the direction of focus.
Imagine if there were a series of Republican websites, each with their own focus: national security, family protection, constitutional authority, etc.. not to create expensive videos projects, or to offer a place where other Republicans post their fears and objections, but sites that ‘report’ the news from the Republic’s perspective. Can you imagine sites like that? Why not? The liberals have been doing that for years. Their little useless lie machines are quoted by their controlled press as if they mattered.
If Republicans ever want to reach out to control our own destiny, to save this nation from socialism, not only is it about too late to pull off, it will take the type of activists that do not make ‘calls’, that do not get out and knock on doors, it will take the communications experts, the authors, the writers, the publications of republican thought who pounce on every story, explain it in short bullet point pieces and flood the net with those pieces, shared between them all.
And it is not hard to do either. All it would take is a group of people, dedicated to the cause, to read the left’s socialist rags. The spin they place on stories only has to be reversed and the truth speaks.
A serious proposal to serious RedState Republicans
Mockery. It is the fruit of Democrat labor. It is what the news does these days, instead of reporting. It is the desperate act of an originality void. It is the one thing that Republicans have not used against those who use it against Republicans. Why? It is the thing immature people do when they have nothing else to say. But it has become very effective for the Democrat Party. It can become just as effective for the Republican Party. The fodder is there, to be capitalized. The material is new and fresh each day. All we need is a passion to, as that Secretary of State poser has said, “never waste a good crisis”.
Proposal: First refusal for this to RedState.
RedState creates a single WordPress category for ‘Democrat News’ and provides a front page block to report the top new contributions, as well as public access RSS feeds to push it out into the blogosphere.
Contributors are granted posting permissions for the category.
Material: Any news story, reported as slanted by the Democrat Propaganda Machine (DPM).
Sources: Any DPM website, including the old media and the new.
Method: Mock the mockery.
Examples:
DPM Headline: “Politico: Obama Doesn’t Go Anywhere Without His TelePrompter” Democrat News Headline: “Talking Head Savior Needs Cue Cards”, then proceed to do a paragraph or two on how horrible it is to have the leader of the free world, speak only by the direction of his handlers. The use of the TelePrompter proves the man is not the ‘man’. He is just the face of the ‘man’.
DPM Headline: “Single-payer advocates win seats at White House health summit” Democrat News Headline: “Medical Scales Tilted To Predetermined Outcome”, then proceed to spill the beans on the ‘set up’ for socialized medicine and what the result of that will really mean.
and my personal favorite…. the ‘poll’ story: pick any poll, report its results, then tear it apart based on its methodology.
If Redstate would to do this, offer the RSS feed to conservative and Republican blogs, then the party itself would hopefully create the other websites to split the function into focused ‘sources’, Republicans would then have a model similar to the one employed by the Sorosites. Sure it would take money, but please tell me, what else at this point in time could the donors of the Republican party do that would be more constructive, than to begin to balance the scales of the news?
What the party is lacking is what the Democrat party is controlled by: a group of money people who are not directly connected to the party and put their money behind a network of information controlling websites with fancy organization names. They have created their own credibility.
So can we.

penguin2 (Diary) Saturday, March 7th at 11:51AM EST (link)Unfortunately, I am not tech savvy, but I think the gist of what you were saying is that we need GOP attack and rebuttal internet “machines.” The Dems have been able to flood the internet, constantly, with deliberately distorted attacks against our side.
Your posting clearly indicates that this problem continues and unless we begin to fill that void, we will be lost..

Without it, we may as well start agreeing we look good with hammer and cicle head gear. Seriously.
There has to be someone or some group of people out there with the money to create the network of web machines. Now, whether they have the passion required to make it happen is another story, but that story should be controlled by the Republicans as well

itrytobenice (Diary) Saturday, March 7th at 1:25PM EST (link)I came here this morning (and have stayed a while, reading) just especially to mock the old First Lady for her inability to find anyone in the State Department who could speak Russian.
It was not worthy of a diary, but my snark was bubbling up inside me.
And I would like to mock President Teleprompter for his long sinewy neck developed from the never-ending head pivots from one prompter to the other.
And I wanted a quick snarky post that would yearn for a Clinton moment. Yes, the moment when his teleprompter broke down at his State of the Union speech. And, yes, Clinton just rolled right on, but the Greatest Orator of Our Time would have to stop and regurgitate.
Please, PLEASE, PLEASE give us this great idea!!!!!!!

Now I can mock, and mock nasty, and I do it sometimes in the newspaper blogs, but the Lefties really don’t like it and complain about it – and I get banned sometimes ’cause we wouldn’t want to hurt a lefty’s feelings.

The Mocking Secret
Lee Hempfling (Diary) Saturday, March 7th at 2:01PM EST (link)Yeah ok it isn’t a secret…. but i was lost for a title …………..
Libs see facts and make them their own by reading under the fact line and declaring that to be the story….
Example from today:
“Maybe he just got faulty intelligence?” Headline from http://www.dailykos.com/,
“Wash. Times: BLANKLEY: “Obama lied; the economy died”. Media Matters says it’s the new, dumb meme of the day.”
The lib rag has a source to get its credibility from. Repubs have NOTHING!!!! Now don’t get me wrong, Redstate is my favorite place on earth (well.. you know) but this is a discussion place. We need a place like Media Matters… yes I know there is Newsbusters, but they aren’t a source, they are a truth teller. We need sources. New sources. Cool sounding named sources. Well funded sources. But even without sources (on account I got sent down my own passion path, and for that I shall recover…) the ‘ Democrat News’ (or please someone give that thing a brand name) :
MEDIA MATTERS: [Blankley's 'Obama lied; the economy died', is the new dumb meme of the day': The [insert cleverly named extremely well funded Republican machine here] says, IT’S OBAMA’S COMING DEPRESSION! Obama’s lies are (list them here) and the resulting economic crash is ALL HIS FAULT.
All we have to do is follow the lib stories… turn it back to the truth and mock the spin libs have put on it by simple pointing out the truth. It will be very easy to tell the truth. Heck, liberals must have to go into group hugs since to come up with the spinned lines they do spew forth, (either that or that whole liberals are insane thing is right.)

Kindest Thanks! Our Tent Does Have Room for Activism
Ron Robinson (Diary) Saturday, March 7th at 5:25PM EST (link)My kindest thanks to your for your support of my post on calling on developers to provide the tools that GOP.com won’t provide.
I hope all of you who read this will indeed visit http://gopguerrillas.ning.com and get involved – even if it’s just with your thoughts and ideas.
I have always though of the republican party as possessing a ‘big tent’ although our leaders and many of us individually have articulated it poorly.
That’s why I think there is plenty of room for me to differ with your your statement that Republicans are not activists. I don’t differ hugely with you here. It’s very true that many of us are very private individuals and don’t get involved publicly. There are also many of us who do want to be activists.
Finally, and I place myself in this category, there are many of us who have recently changed our minds – we have decided to become activists. But we need the online Action Center tools to coordinate our efforts effectively.
Observe the Tea Parties that have already occurred. I think the next round of Tea Parties on April 15 are going to be a big nationwide event.
Your correct assertion about splinter groups on ninig.com (and many opther places) only supports one of my main points documented on previous posts and on http://gopguerrillas.ning.com/: without the tools we need, our efforts are diffused instead of focused. We surf around looking for a resource that is actually useful and never find a REAL Action Center that supports and coordinates grassroots effort.
To put it in scientific terms, right now we are observing the control group without an experimental group: the Action Center I want to develop. The GOP proved yesterday, with their RFP for a new GOP.com that a real Action Center is not in the offing. It’s not in there. The RFC is only 2 pages and pretty darned lame (see Erick’s ‘RNC Fail’ post.
I vigorously disagree with you on one point: a web presence is only as good as it’s traffic. By ‘traffic’ I am going to assume that you mean all of the relevant web site metrics such as hit, page rank, frineds, backlinks, etc. etc. That is VERY TRUE for the type of Social Networking site that the GOP wants to build. But it’s not true for an Action Center.
The relevant metrics for an action center would be: how many voters were contacted? How many new voters registered? How many letters to Congresscritters facilitated? How many people driven to the polls on election day? How many public events scheduled? How many attended those? These are the metrics that a true Action Center wants to produce and raise.
I’ll point out at this point that Obama’s web site had an excellent action center. I know, I checked it out. online. I was in there. If you indicated that you wanted to make phone calls, you got a list of phone numbers to call – even in other states that were battlegrounds – and you could start calling RIGHT NOW. So I am not just talking about a meeting place for activists, I am talking about a work center or Action Center. One that actually supports and directs activities that have been proven to help immensely in winning elections.
I think a lot of these online splinter groups are created by folks who have an inchoate desire to be part of an Action Center – many of them are indeed articulating calls to action – but they just have not fully formed in their mind that an Action Center is what they really want.
So again, this supports my thesis that the absence of an Action Center causes some of the ‘splintering’ we see – what I have been calling the diffusion of effort.
I may disagree with you in certain specifics in how to apply this statement, but I certainly agree with your statement that it is time for us to work the web instead of using the web to work other Republicans!
Yes!
My goal is to use the web as a tool to work the streets, to work the vote, to work the neighborhoods, to work the incumbents and the candidates. There are lots of Republicans who want to do this if they can just get a little coordination, support and direction, and if they can find just a few other like-minded Republicans in their neighborhood so they can work in small (or big) local teams.
Indeed, Republicans should talk less with Republicans about other Republicans. I think both Rush and Steele should be saying ‘hey, there is room in my tent for that other guy. He probably speaks for some actual voters out there. And Steele certainly should have hyperventilated when his fellow travelers were called Nazis.
But my conversation is not much about Repub/Repub dialog. I want to foster the Repub-to-Voter dialog.
I’ll leave it to others to point out liberal mistakes. As soon as I have an Action Center to work from, I plan to be out there on the block with my team mates letting folks know in a friendly, non-argumentative, and respectful way, that I think my own GOP tent is big enough to include them if they like lower taxes, less government and the unlimited opportunities afforded by personal liberty. SImple as that.
Steele may not be able to change their mind, but a friendly neighbor may be able to change their vote.
Blog on. Comment On. We need that. We cannot do without it. But I am convinced that there are enough Republican Activist out there – even if they are brand new ones – that want an Action Center and will use one.
Again, my kindest thanks to you for giving such excellent stimulus to the discussion we need to have about this.
I feel my tent is big enough to include you and I hope the reverse it true.
Kindest Regards,
Ron Robinson

Unified Patriots – How-To: Activists Taking Action!
Certainly True
Lee Hempfling (Diary) Saturday, March 7th at 9:26PM EST (link)As I said, I commend your effort and your goal. I believe what you have proposed is workable and potentially a success, based on participation. Sadly, I believe the proposal I have put forth in this thread will fall on deaf ears, not from those who find it worthwhile, but from those who could place their money where it would matter. Republican investors are those who support think tanks who put out videos that are panned in the press. They do not comprehend a simple axiom:
If you want to move water, you do not bother with touching the water, you change the landscape. Republican money has funded pushing the water, while it will take changing the landscape (controlling the message) to move the water in the ‘right’ direction.
Just like water, public opinion seeks the path of least resistance. The ‘least resistance’ of public opinion is the quantity of a repeated message. Democrats understand that.
By all means, please launch your idea and push it to its fullest. Bring together the activists, place those calls, work from the ground to change public perception and enlighten the otherwise dulled perspectives of a mass of people who form their opinions by what they hear and read and see in the media and from peers, who do the same thing and speak of their new found ‘knowledge’.
My concept was to control that ‘knowledge’ using the same model as the socialists. Yours will succeed, as yours is an individual effort, requiring passion and drive. Mine will be ignored, as it requires money from people who cannot comprehend marketing for the public’s eyes and ears. It is no longer possible for Republicans, especially Conservative Republicans to stand with their beliefs and ideologies. It is time for them to use those traits to control the message. It is an uphill battle only because the main stream media is controlled by the socialists, but there are outlets available, especially the net, to start the voyage to, not as the socialists say, to take back the country, but as Conservatives should say, to give the country back to the people.
But alas… I had to offer this somewhere. I feel better getting it out in the open, and that feeling and a few hundred dollars would pay my rent. I am so pissed at the Republicans, especially the last administration for what they did NOT do, in time to matter that I should just ignore them and allow their foolishness to bite them in the rear, but the country is too important for that.
Be well.

you're talking about Talking Points Memo, right?
Beaglescout (Diary) Monday, March 9th at 11:45PM EST (link)It hijacked its name from the O’Reilly Factor. It has sub-areas for news on TV, Washington DC, Coffee Talk, and Muck Raking. What names can be hijacked from some loonie lefty on teevee? Worst person in the world? Countdown 5-4-3-2-1? Remember, if you use the same form that lefties use they can be ruthlessly ridiculed for protesting when you do it. How about adding Art, Music, Literature, Theater or Film instead of TV to the Republican version? They can have the dead and rotten gutter of TV. We’ll take the high road of high culture.
Chasing this rabbit hole a little further I poked around on Kos and other sites. Here’s a great idea that can be lifted from the lefties. See Open Left’s progressive entrepreneurs’ contest for internet-based political applications for progressive uses. The winning entries were all funded by a funding source they had developed, which included grass-roots giving. DKos now has a fellowship program to provide some financial support for those who are doing useful and powerful things for them. Sure they have the Soros money to spend, but most of their grant money comes from readers and fellow travelers. I know that Dems have more spending money than Republicans. They don’t have as big families, and they’re more focused on making money than we are (since we’re more focused on our families than material success), and that fills them with “liberal guilt” they attempt to assuage with small gifts to liberal organizations. Well, why not play up “conservative guilt”? Make the operating meme something like “What have you done to save the greatest nation on earth from lefty corruption today?”
Anyway, that’s all I got for now.
“A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one.”
Yeah well I'm tired

Controlling the message
woodsman (Diary) Sunday, March 8th at 8:09PM EST (link)Lee, your analogy to water is a fit comparison. Eventually, even slow moving water will erode a substantial object. In this instance the object is the liberal conversation. As I’ve noticed with the liberal talking heads, pundits, etc they always stay on topic and attempt to push everything back on anything perceived as “Republican”.
During the past election the Repub’s were almost always countering the liberal discussion as defensive, instead of offensive. In other words they were reacting to the liberal talking points instead of bringing forth anything new to the discussion.
The general public hears the message being controlled and since it was being controlled by liberals the Republicans constantly found themselves on the defensive. That’s pretty weak IMO.
Have you thought about forming a donation widget to help fund this concept you describe?
Yes it IS weak!
Lee Hempfling (Diary) Monday, March 9th at 12:09AM EST (link)The concept I have proposed is not something that can be funded with a widget! Imagine if the liberal organizations funded by Soros’ Open Society Institute had decided they could do it with a widget. That can’t be imagined. They stood up to take over and they succeeded for many reasons, most of which the people have not one clue. So here we find ourselves and our party on the sidelines and we’re wondering how to make a new Internet site, hogwash! We’re fighting among ourselves, through Rush’s issue leadership and the bungling dimwits in the party leadership, who cannot seem to find a message. So what is needed is a group of organizations that will build the same ‘ground up’ message control that got the liberals into the news business.
I’m talking a series of important sounding, fully funded, real life organizations, manned with full time staff, researching, writing, publishing, hitting the talking head circuit, offering radio commentary, television packages and printed materials that is not a part of the party, but supportive of its ideals.
To do that would require what it took the liberals to do it. Millions of dollars. But the sad and yet funny thing is, your honest gesture of an idea, is what most Republicans would think of in this vein. I’m not knocking your offer of advise at all. Not at all. It is just, in order to give this country back to the people, in order to require that the Constitution matter again, in order to STOP SOCIALISM from murdering this nation, it will take millions of dollars, hundreds of staff members and a willingness and drive to see it through.
We don’t have to create a ‘shadow party’. We don’t have to place people in government positions to undermine the administration, as the Soros people did. All we have to do is work the message, control the message, MARKET THE BRAND so it stops being considered the boogie-man, the demonized cause of all things wrong, which is what liberals have made it become.
Now, either we acquiesce and fall to the useless pile of history’s wasted efforts, or we get off our collective asses and make it happen.
Sadly, again… I fully believe, just like the last administration’s knowledge and ability to stop the outcome of the past election, this opportunity will be lost as Republican politicians are more politician than pure patriot. They don’t bother with ‘country first’, they compromise. We need a ‘NO compromise attitude’ to return this nation to the Republic it was intended to be.
I guess I’ll forget this whole thing. Perhaps if some ‘named’ individual reads this thread a few years down the road they’ll come up with an idea to get it done and know the people it will take to make it happen. That of course, will be like most things Republicans get their hands on: it will become normal and accepted and open fodder for the first infant mentality who wants to destroy it, because we are really good at declaring what is right, and horrible at doing what it takes to guarantee it stays that way.
Thank you for your kind post.

Big War Room To Drive Obama Agenda
Lee Hempfling (Diary) Tuesday, March 10th at 4:03PM EST (link)This makes my point.
Center For American Progress Launching Big War Room To Drive Obama Agenda
Joining forces publicly, “The war room — a joint project of CAP Action Fund and Media Matters Action Network — will be headed by well-known liberal operative Tara McGuinness, who worked on John Kerry’s presidential campaign and was a major player in the anti-war movement during the Bush years.”
“The new war room — which is called Progressive Media — represents a serious ratcheting up of efforts to present a united liberal front in the coming policy wars. The goal of the war room will be to do hard-hitting research that boils down complex policy questions into usable talking points and narratives that play well in the media and build public support for the White House’s policy goals.”
So where is the Republican machine now? Are we still trying to figure out how to make the Party more hop-hop?
Passed in the dust.
