Awesomely Funny McCain!

At the Al Smith Dinner . . .

This is John McCain at his rakish best. I have been gorged on politics for several years now and don’t find much political content enjoyable or interesting, but this is U.S.D.A. PRIME, DRY, AGED AWESOMENESS. (Can you say “AWESOMENESS” when you’re over 35?)

Believe me, this speech is worth your time. Lifted my spirits right up.

“My friends, it is coming to my attention that a great number of you are fearful of an Obama win. I must stress that you have nothing to fear from Obama winning the election as I have the greatest confidence he would be a most benevolent dictator.” – Hopefully John McCain

This is better than the debates...

this is unreal and I hope it gets major airplay….

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Highly recommended. Probably even several notches better than Drew Carey when he did the Bush Roast.

Only in America!

Here we are 2 1/2 weeks from election day and both candidates can find authentic good things to say about one another and make everyone laugh.

I think this was the perfect day for this.

Doom & Gloom begone-at least for the 15 minutes these two senators poked fun at each other and at themselves.

McCain on Bill Clinton-hilarious!

i guarantee that would win a lot of votes from centrists if they could see Mccain as he truly is. what is amazing is that the laughter was so loud and the cheers in MANHATTAN were deafening.. strange..

where has this been all election season?

scottr331 Thursday, October 16th at 10:50PM EST (link)

Where has this McCain been all year? Instead of laughing at himself, he is making legitimate jokes, and killing at that. I wonder how different things would be if McCain had been able to portray himself this way during the campaign – intelligent and lighthearted.

Maybe he'll get his own late night talk show...

soundbyte Thursday, October 16th at 10:55PM EST (link)

If McCain had just used this material in the debate!

He looks better here than in most of his other TV appearances. And he had better timing and material than Obama.

This is very showing

Commodore Perry (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 11:01PM EST (link)

Obama’s lines are mostly funny, but they are so poorly delivered that it’s hard to tell. For someone who is supposed to be a great orator and leader of the masses, he just is floundering what I think really could be a hilarious act.

I think that these videos really bring out the truth about which candidate can connect with the average American and which candidate cannot.

McCain on a roll

septembergurl (Diary) Thursday, October 16th at 11:13PM EST (link)

A great week for McCain. First a feisty new stump speech to large crowds, then a new economic plan aimed at the middle class, followed by a thrashing administered to Obama at the debate. Then, a day of Joe the Plumber followed by hilarious turns on Letterman and the Smith Dinner.

McCain is truly the Happy Warrior in this campaign!

Dennis Miller?

I wonder if our (recently new) good friend Dennis Miller had anything to do with some of John’s remarks… Way too funny.

My family was laughing out loud.

Actually, we laughed for both of them, but we enjoyed Mac better than BO.

He was truly hilarious. I especially loved the ending part about overselling Barack’s set.

I’m a Democrat and I’m not going to try to convince anyone of anything. But having watched the videos of both candidates at the Al Smith dinner, I thought both were quite funny and I appreciate the back and forth jokes that they shared. It reminds me that whoever wins, we are all Americans in this together. That makes me proud of this country – you wouldn’t see this kind of thing happening anywhere else in the world.

I just wanted to share this – I don’t want to come across as an interloper. I won’t try to start any arguments. I just wanted to reach out.

But even Bill Maher was forced to admit Obama “was unfair” at the end by turning the end of his speech into a standard boilerplate. Obama’s lines about being Superman instead of the Messiah were great. And saying your greatest strength is your humility is always good for a one-liner.

But McCain was brilliant. And HRC rolling and laughing so loud you could hear her as he kept delivering the lines about Bill Clinton’s “campaigning” on Obama’s behalf had me in tears.

“Liberals are always talking about pluralism, but that is not what they mean. In public school, Jews don’t meet Christians. Christians don’t meet Hindus. Everybody meets nothing.”- Dennis Prager

McCain was in top form...

jonnot Friday, October 17th at 8:12AM EST (link)

but “the one” proved (once again) that he has no sense of humor. While he had some good lines written for him, he flubbed most of them with his poor delivery. After McCain’s “boffo” perfomance, that had them “rolling in the aisles”, it seemed that “the one” was continually off-balance because he kept waiting for huge laughs from his audience that never came. The fact that he then switched to a campaign stump speech was simply reprehensible.

McCain ROCKED the house

UnderCoverGuy (Diary) Friday, October 17th at 8:39AM EST (link)

You know, I’ve been to many concerts. It’s often a question of who had the better show and I’ll tell you what, I was truly ROTFLMAO from McCain’s humor. McCain’s delivery and abilities were crisp, timely and appropriate. I wish that there were more of these dinner engagements so that he could do stuff like this every night. And the more the crowd laughed, the more you knew what McCain was joking about was really the truth. In comedy, people laugh when they can relate comedy to the truth and judging by the amount of laughter in the crowd last night, everything McCain said was right on target.

Obama, on the other hand, was stale and slow. He had maybe one or two good punch lines but that was about it. I can only wonder what Obama was thinking about as McCain delivered his lively remarks and Obama’s fellow Democrats couldn’t stop laughing and applauding.

In terms of the concert question – McCain blew Obama off the stage – plain and simple.

The Declaration of Independence

It was great

Shawn Gillogly (Diary) Friday, October 17th at 8:58AM EST (link)

And the amazing thing is, McCain had great timing. His gestures, his facial expressions. Those aren’t things you just pick up, and comedy isn’t anything like normal speaking. It was a great roast speech, it would’ve worked anywhere.

When he had that sly half-smile about “some of the people in this room” being for him, that was classic. And when he turned the microphone over, you knew HE knew it was a classic.

And a lot of that material will stump. A bit of tweaking perhaps. But he has the timing and the humor to make it work.

Awesomeness, yes, awesomeness

Hammer2008 (Diary) Friday, October 17th at 9:29AM EST (link)

John McCain was hilarious. Funniest political stuff in years by any politician and a few night time hosts.

Barack Obama fell flatter as he went. One could tell he was uncomfortable. McCain had him in near tears laughing. Ol’ John set Barack up deftly at the end with his “expectations” schtick.

My wife had to catch it on H&C midnight re-run.

Betcha’ Sarah Palin will be in her own at the Smith dinner in 2012 ;0)

I thought John was great. Here is a bit more humour that showed up in the inbox today:

After numerous rounds of ‘We don’t even know if
Osama is still alive’,

Barrack Hussein Obama has been telling everyone he will
capture Osama Bin
Laden when elected.

So Osama himself decided to send Barrack Hussein Obama a
letter in his own
handwriting to
let him know he was still in the game.

Obama opened the letter and it contained a single line of
coded message:

370H-SSV-0773H

Obama was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Howard Dean.

Dean and the DNC and his aides had no clue either, so they
sent it to Joe
Biden.

Joe Biden could not solve so it was sent to the FBI and
the CIA.

Eventually they asked John McCain and his Staff to solve
it.

Within a minutes McCain’s Staff e-mailed Obama with
this reply:

‘Tell Obama he’s holding the message upside
down’.
