In a field with 4 people who could reasonably be called a conservative of some type and 1 clear moderate + open primaries = conservative vote split everywhere and moderate wins.

There isn't any comparison between a 5 or more way primary and a 2 way general election. Not that I am saying Fred!! is our guy for next time, just that the analysis is more complicated.

let's face it. he lost to John Freaking McCain. NOBODY who lost to that RINO schlub should ever be considered for any position that requires election. If you can't beat John Freaking McCain, you have no business going up against an incumbent Obama.

and, it didn't take long at all for some others to jump on Hoffman's bandwagon, too. That is an indication of a LEADER. Maybe next time the NRCC will call Jeri first and ask her to help them with some "vetting." The could learn so much by consulting with folks who actually have the pulse of the people, rather than listening to D.C. elites.
Thanks so much for this post, Hooah -- I always love reading about FRED!

If McCain had tapped Fred instead of Sarah, the election outcome might not have been different, but Palin wouldn't have been damaged by McCain's timing error, and Fred would still be in the same position that he's in today.

Michelle Bachmann is in a much better position to grow into a viable national candidate than Palin is right now. I personally think Sarah Palin can be much more valuable as an observer and critic and coach than she can be as a candidate. Just like Newt.

Fred has definitely lost some weight. And, by growing it now, we have some years to get used to it. By some logic, that could mean he's going to run again. The reason I don't like the beard is part that everybody in this town grows one thinking it makes him look like a mountain man (or he already is one), and part that it reminds me of somebody I don't like, but I don't remember who that is.

The biggest problem any Republican will have is Obama's appearance, as indicated by Tuesday's election results.

via FredPAC website .

Fred has to learn to know when to stop talking sometimes. At the end, Neil is waiting patiently to step in to end the segment. I just love Fred! If Fred were on O'Reilly, Fred would always have the last word!

on Fred. I have a theory on the beard and Jeri. He looks younger with a darker beard, and will get more appeal to voters in 2011 (gotta start early) if he transforms his appearance a bit. Then he can take on Beavis and Biden.

he will need to campaign more aggressively.

I still like him better than anybody else on the scene, including Sarah Palin, but if he couldn't get selected by Republicans last time, why should we think he could win it all next time?

Let's wait a couple of years, and then take this up again. Maybe by then Fred will have shaved off that attempt to make himself look "cool."

Then, when you finish your deployment, and become a civilian again, I hope that you elicit Fred and Jeri's services when you run your campaign! You are a winner, and we need more like you.

and he did get in a little too late, actually after the media made sure he peaked. Like Fred said, they build you way up, just so they have farther to take you down. And, in the SC race, once he got there he actually had more events in less time than any other Republican running. After Obama's shouting and spouting of lies, a slow deliberate talking Statesmen would be welcome to many. Fred ran once presidential race too early. He epitomizes what us conservatives are drooling for now.

I still like Fred a lot and provided he actually tried to WIN this time instead of lollygagging around that would make me very happy.

BUT

I don't somehow think that a slow talking southerner is a good match up against Obama.

And frankly, I don't love any of the candidates right now. I'd go into more details but don't want to threadjack this thread.

And more in the drawer in case those start to fade in the Florida heat and sun. There would be no 10% unemployment if Fred were in the White House.

How about Thompson/Bachmann in 2012? And Jeri would be a great press secretary. With here in there, Chris Matthews would feel more than a tingle on his leg in the press room.
