The Three Letters: Obama version

One fine sunny day President Barack Obama was sitting behind his desk studiously writing on some envelopes when Vice President Joe Biden walked in.

“What’s up big dawg,” quipped the veep.

“Oh, hi Joe. I’m just working on my three letters,” replied the President.

Joe took a step back and looked around before closing the door to the oval office, “you mean it’s not an urban legend? Bush really left you three letters in the desk? And you went through all of them?”

Obama leaned back in his chair and tilted his head a little to the left. He wasn’t sure how he should respond to the question. After a few minutes of thought he motioned Joe to come on over.

“It’s all true Joe. Bush left me three letters in this desk, and over time, I have been opening them.” Obama took a moment to show the three envelopes he had just sealed. They were numbered from one to three and bore no other distinguishing marks except for the seal of the President of the United States.

“But, you can’t be done with all three already, can you,” asked Joe?

“Do you remember when we first came into office Joe and we were pushing the stimulus bill? That was when I opened the first letter. It was very clear and to the point. It told me to blame the first major crisis of my administration on Bush, the former President.”

Joe nodded his head and scratched his chin, “I remember that. We blamed all the economic problems on Bush back then didn’t we? What with TARP and all it certainly wasn’t hard! If memory serves me right didn’t we blame Bush for a lot of things?”

“I’ll get to that,” replied the President.

“After stimulus went through we had a good ride for a while. Then we started getting all that flack about Gitmo not being closed yet. I knew I couldn’t blame Bush for that because I had already signed an Executive Order to close the place down. So, I did the only thing I could do, I opened the next letter. This time it said to blame Congress. I couldn’t believe my luck! It was perfect and the Republicans even helped by being so vocal about not closing Gitmo!”

Joe smiled that knowing smile and chuckled quietly, “yeah, they did play along rather well, didn’t they!” After an extra moment or two to savor the memory Joe turned back to the President, “when did you open the third letter?”

Obama turned in his chair and stood up. He walked over towards Joe and put his hand on his shoulder. “I don’t really remember when I opened the third letter and it didn’t really matter because the third letter was useless, all it said was to write three letters!”

Joe looked a little shocked when Obama told him this. Seeing the shock Obama smiled and walked back over to his desk. He picked up the letters and waved them in the air for Joe to see before dropping them into a drawer.

“Look Joe, we both know that Bush was no where near as smart as I am so I wrote three improved letters. I expanded on the first one to include not just blaming Bush but to include spreading the blame to anyone hired by his administration whether they still work in the government or not. I expanded the second letter to include placing blame not just on Republicans in congress but also those teabaggers and Fox News. All I have to do is blame Fox News and the rest of the media believes it to be true!”

“What about the third letter,” inquired Joe with a nervous tone in his voice?

“Oh that one? I changed it from ‘write three letters’ to ‘buy three envelopes’.”

CT Superintendents of Schools says those who oppose Obama school speech are CRAZY!!!!

I just got this in an email form my local school:

TO: Superintendents of Schools
FROM: Mark K. McQuillan, Commissioner
DATE: September 4, 2009
SUBJECT: President’s Speech to Students on September 8th

Some of Connecticut’s school districts have been receiving calls from parents and others about the upcoming Web-based speech that President Barack Obama plans to deliver to the nation’s students at noon on Tuesday, September 8. The U.S. Department of Education has asked school districts to participate in the broadcast and provide access to students during this historic event. Administrators have asked for guidance on how to respond to parents and also how they can appropriately include this event in the school day.

Many of the calls from parents stem from cable news and conservative radio characterizations of the speech as “socialist” or “Nazi-like propaganda” suggesting that the President is “attempting mind control of your children.” This is truly unfortunate, inaccurate and clearly goes beyond the definition of responsible civil discourse.

We have reviewed materials relating to the President’s speech and can report that the major themes of his address are consistent with messages delivered to the nation’s young people from previous Presidents – Republican and Democrat – focusing on the importance of staying in school, working hard, taking responsibility for your learning, graduating and going on to higher education.

The State Department of Education believes the issues being debated are a local matter and the responsibility of local boards of education to decide what course of action to follow. Please give every consideration to providing access to your students in a way that you deem most appropriate to your school schedule and provides due respect to the Office of the President. I have included a link to an article in the Hartford Courant that addresses this issue:

http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-obama-speech-0904.artsep04,0,3843813.story

PDF version of text

That’s right, all of us who oppose this speech to our kids (a speech none of us parents know the contents of) are all right-wing cray people! The only reason we oppose this event is obviously because we are crazy conservative people!!!

Lucky for me my local school officials did not deign to treat me as such and have instead sent word that even though they are taping the event, and teachers may use it in the future, us parents will be notified if it will be shown to our kids.

That’s all I wanted. Just a little bit of respect from my local school board and the ability to know what is being taught to my kids.

Obama’s Americans

Recalling a placid event he held in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the president said: “that reflects America a lot more than what we’ve seen covered on television for the last few days.”

Obama slams TV over health care “ruckus”

It’s so wonderful to know that President Obama considers pre-screened members of the public to be more reflective of what’s going on in America than actual Americans gathering to protest something they do not like.

When is a Coup Not a Coup?

How about when it is constitutional?

TRANSLATION – Article 239.- The citizen that has been the head of the Executive Branch cannot be President or Vice-President again.
Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform, as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years.

Yes, the above is from the Honduran Constitution. One has to wonder if the American administration will stick to their position of not meddling and letting the rule of law work?

Reaction to the apparent coup was swift. U.S. President Barack Obama said he was “deeply concerned” and called on all political actors in Honduras to “respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter. Any existing tensions and disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue free from any outside interference,” he said.

Or will they choose to meddle and attempt to have the legaly removed president of Honduras put back into office?

Thanks to Hot Air for some of the information.
