Sarah blew it


Sarah Palin wrote a piece in her Facebook page recently critisizing Rahm Emanuel for using the word Retarded to slam his fellow Democrats, and called for his resignation.  She attempted to sensitize the word by calling it the R-word, which is fine.  A portion of her page goes like this:

“but his recent tirade against participants in a strategy session was such a strong slap in many American faces that our president is doing himself a disservice by seeming to condone Rahm’s recent sick and offensive tactic.

The Obama Administration’s Chief of Staff scolded participants, calling them, “F—ing retarded,” according to several participants, as reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the “N-word” or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.”

Her statement, attempting to stigmatize the word retarded, charging up the political atmosphere with bringing up race words, and calling for the resignation of the Presidents right-hand-man, was a serious charge.    She made use of a word a firing offense.  Palin suggested use of the word was an absolute wrong.

On Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace said to her, “White House Chief of Staff — you mention him — Rahm Emanuel. You called him out. He used the “R” word. He said, “retarded.” He has now apologized for using that word, met with activists, said he’s going to join the campaign to try to eliminate use of that word –”

OK, so far so good.  She has gotten most of what she asked for.  But here is where I start to have a problem:

WALLACE: OK. But Rush Limbaugh weighed in this week. And he said this:

“Our politically correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards.”

PALIN: He was satirical (ph) in that –

WALLACE: Wait a minute, let me finish.

PALIN: OK.

WALLACE: “I mean, these people, these liberal activists are quote, kooks.”  Should Rush Limbaugh apologize?

PALIN: They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh was using satire to bring attention to what this politically correct –

WALLACE: But he used the “R” word.

What happened to Sarah’s sensitivity to a word in 6 days?  When a word is R-rrrrd, you don’t start giving passes out 6 days later to your friends, useful allies.  This is hypocritical.  What is worse, is that she could easily have said simply, yes, he shouldn’t have used that word.  She then could have moved on and used five minutes of her 30 minute interview as an oppurtunity to elaborate about the what kind of help  neurologicaly-impaired children need from the Public, specifics about the challenges these kids face, the lack of funding for autism research, anything.  She has had a platform for a year and a half, and she has said nothing specific on this subject.  She has a vehicle to educate, but hits talking points instead.

This has gotten me to thinking about what I have learned in all the hours I have listened to her.  Last week-end she spoke for an hour at the Tea Party Convention, and half-hour on FNS.  She hit all the talking points, she said everything I wanted to hear, but what have I actually learned, what did she teach, when did she elaborate at length?  I can fill a brief case with her statements on her emotions, I can say she encourages choosing for life, but what do I learn.  watch this video speaking about Down’s Syndrome.

I understand she is talking about her personal life, but then again when is she not?

I asked myself the same question about the other subject she is supposed to be an expert on.  This is the governor of Alaska being asked, ‘what the he– is holding back drilling ANWR’.  Notice all the information is given in the graphics, any specifics listed by Palin I could have told the interviewer myself, just from listening to talk radio.

We as a nation are going to need a President capable of understanding  and solving problems ranging from energy policy, to global positioning in the marketplace, to what is the real threats from China, Russia, and Radical Islam and the interworkings of the three.  My watching her handle a simple situation involving a subject so close to home as Down’s Syndrome and labeling, oppurtunities to educate wasted, and her lack of detailed subject knowledge, make me doubt if she will ever be ready for a Presidency.  She needs to prove her ability to master a couple issues, and carry a few projects to completion, before even considering it.

I fear you’re underestimating the enemy.

As much as I disagree with 90% of the Obama’s policies, I’m not foolish enough to say he’s stupid. There are a million reasons that support the reality that his presidency is disastrous, but him being stupid just isn’t one of them. Frankly, OFA would be THRILLED if we keep repeating “Obama is stupid” because it’s ineffective ….and not just because Palin keeps referring to him as a “Harvard Law Professor.”

Why not attack Obama for the things that count? Like the hypocrisies? I know it’s painful to watch, but I really think we should all watch — repeatedly — the meetings that Obama had with the Repub and Dem caucuses. The Q&A was very illuminating, and if we genuinely pay attention to how he spins and manipulates, we’ll be better equipped to beat him in 2012.

…the myth of his great oratory skills. Even during his campaign when Crissy the Tingler and all the others started pushing that meme he said nothing memorable. This country has had orators in the White House and the Halls of Congress, Obama is not one of them. Lincoln, JFK, Reagan, Webster, any of a dozen of the Founding Fathers, all have said things that rocked the civilized world to it’s very foundations and have rightly stood the test of time. Did you watch the Q&A portions of both caucus meetings? Without a teleprompter, under attack of the smartest conservative minds in office, Obama wasn’t “reduced to a mumbling idiot” by any standard.

We’d be foolish not to recognize this man has some skills. The rest of the country doesn’t seem to care if he pauses and says “UMMMM” for five minutes. As long as it’s not followed by “strategery” or “mis-underestimated,” they see clearly a teleprompter isn’t the brains behind the man.

So, if we keep insisting it’s the teleprompter, it’s not making HIM look bad; it’s making US look like we’re not paying attention.

I don’t want to minimize the threat he poses, that wasn’t my intention.

I do think Sarah Palin could take him in a debate, he seems to me to have trouble replying to questions and formulating responses off the cuff. It’s got to be hard to keep all the lies necessary to be a democrat/progressive politician straight. With the proper amount of lead time he and his writers can throw together every lie the dems live by, always in freshly twisted, exciting new ways. But, lies they are and lies they will remain.

She defined the rules for the use of the word herself; which was absolutely do not use it. Media Matters, the Left, whoever was not anywhere in the room when she wrote her article and made an issue of it. When asked if the same rules apply to Rush, she dodged. Political correctness didn’t define the terms for her, she made them herself. Then she abandoned them six days later.
As far as a debate between herself and Obama, she would sound fine. I just don’t know if she could elaborate on details if it came to that. I’m looking for more substance from her, and some consistancy.

How do you register an objection to what Rahm says without repeating his words? Not that I disagree about the un-necessity of demonizing the word. It is after all a euphemism for several other euphemisms, and as Paul Schlichta writes, it really isn’t objectionable as a description, as an adjective. It became a problem when used as a noun.

Yes, Rush used it in a way that would have been objectionable had he been ridiculing someone. But as an example of what Rahm had said, no harm, no foul.

And, Palin is not the one who started the campaign to de-legitimize the word.

and reminding everyone that we should be fighting the Progressives/Democrats, rather than conducting circular firing squads against the most influential Republican voice out there right now. The arguments in the diary are weak, and, nothing more than distractions that are best left ignored. Her book tour proved she can still draw huge crowds. I seriously doubt that the Tea Party convention would have been covered to any great degree, without her keynote speech. Her interview with Wallace was great, and, she was seen as politically matured since her 2008 campaign with her leash handlers.

If some would go after the Progressives with the same amount of gusto as they do going after Palin, we might be able to be of further assistance in their political suicides.

 
 

Rush succeeded in his attempt to cast light

You see, we all are aware that any gaffe by Obama (Corpseman) or those high in his administration is papered over by the messiah’s adoring friends in the media.

Therefore a frenzied media, seizing an opportunity to excoriate Limbaugh and Palin, has been forced to report that the offending words initially were uttered by none other than Emanuel.

It was satire and Rush was quoting Emanuel.

Wallace performed a good service by his questioning of Palin.

On his program yesterday, Sean Hannity referred to thousands of references on Google regarding Sarah Palin writing on her hand, while very few references exist that point to Obama’s ignorant mispronunciation of “Corpsman”.

Another example of bumbling by modern day Progressives has to do with Tebow’s ad.

Your unquestioning loyalty is causing your reasoning to unravel. The LA Times report, since you bring it up, was about whether Obama had the commen experiences of American Black Culture to be able to represent himself as a Black President. If you add up the time he spent in Indonesia and Hawaii, neither of which have large black cultures, plus the fact his Mother and Grandparents raised him, it can be considered a fair question. Albeit not that important, that everyone has to get angry about. Instead a media firestorm followed rather than discussion. The fallout continued right through the selection of the RNC chaimanship with Chip Salzman being disqualified for distributing CD’s of Barack The Magic Negro. That’s what you get when you use words for target practice rather than intelligent discussion of issues and direction.
You know that the N-word isn’t for Negro. I’m not asking Palin to smack Rush. If she had integrity on this issue she would have said I wish Rush hadn’t used that word and why.

Upon leaving the convention this weekend she saw fit to come to Texas and endorse Perry. This can’t be the action of a Constitutional conservative- just another opportunist who wants to back what seems to be a shoo-in for the next election.
I have spoken personally to other “conservative Republican” politicians here who publically endorsed either Perry or KBH. in every case, these endorsements were the result of unpublicised tit-for-tat deals made before the primary race even began.
Perhaps someone can instruct me concerning how repeatedly compromising on principles helps the defense of the Constitution. And please, no pragmatists. This is the primary, not November.

Hiding behind the Develpmentally Delayed to take pot shots at the White House? I like her shaking up the White House, but don’t use kids unless she is willing to do the hard work to research, understand the needs of those she supposedly advocates for, develop a plan, and work at it consistently till she has attained her goal. She had an oppurtunity to speak on these kids behalf on FNS, and instead sidestepped saying the hard thing, that is even Rush should not use that label to bludgeon the Dems.
Don’t get me wrong, I like both Rush and Sarah, but they are both entertainers. The difference is Rush is willing and able to do the hard work of research and use it to educate, Sarah so far has not. If there are examples out there where she has taken the time to educate, please show me. Otherwise I’m staying with my opinion..

You would know that The Party was started because we didn’t see Black People as sub-human, that when freed, we insisted that Schools be built to give them an education and chance to become something. That the Census was re-designed to track how many Black Children were learning to read and write, and to hold accountability to the States. If you were Republican you would know that the engine of the Party is education, and that at the present day Developementally Delayed children are being given the shaft in schools. money is being spent, but to fulfill requirements, rather than creating a succesful enviromental surrounding where thwese kids can reach their fullest potential. If I get irritated at Palin for not familiarizing herself with this reality, before shooting her mouth off, thats too bad. I’m more concerned with people than images. If she can’t handle a little honest criticism,, she is unprepared for leadership.

I don’t want to prolong this, but at the risk of getting myself in trouble, I need to clarify something –

Hickory, are you saying that the developmentally disabled are being left behind by our school system? I don’t know about where you’re from, but here in Huskerland? Every school HAS to have special education – i.e. for the developmentally disabled, up until those individuals are 19, I believe is the age. There is no choice, no option for schools. If ANYONE is left behind in many schools, for lack of funds, it’s those kids who grow up in small communities that are ADVANCED, and have no way to promote and encourage that.

I’m glad for the education that is received for those that are developmentally disabled. But to say they’re left behind is to not tell the truth.

I’ve left my comments on Sarah on the other diary from earlier today. I think you chose to pick something that you thought might make Sarah look foolish, when we all can analyze and see the situation as anything but. Next time, pick a, heck ANY better argument. This was a very poor choice.

the funding is there, but here in Washington State the money is misapplied. You can come in with a diagnosis such as an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and they will send your child to a Occupational therapist the School district hired to work on skills once a week, but then send the child into a noisy classroom that sets the child off into self-protecting behavior. They claim the funds for “doing something” but will not set up a classroom for success, or train the teacher satisfactorily triggers that disturb the child. The role of diet is not taken into account. The possibility that vaccines can aggrevate or even be the cause of some Autism is not explored or researched. If your child has ADD or ADHD they automatically try to get Ridilan prescribed, and will heavily pressure you to make your child take that medication. Kids with learning disabilities are considered a nuisance and do not fit into the “Factory Mode” Public Schools. I know it isn’t the same in each state. But the amount of time Parents spend in this state talking to school administrators making sure the teachers get it, is absurd.

and you did not deny you were not and in such the conversation is OVER! I have had more then my fill of “Republicans” with their progressive/liberal agenda’s and in such am a Conservative and I and about 40% of this country are going to WRENCH that party back to its Conservative roots.

You an Meghan McCain and her Daddy can all join us or just pick up and put the D after your name but one way or another the Republican Party will be Conservative and Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are two of those people who along with the 40% who self identify as Conservative will be bringing about the Revolution in the party and by extension the country.
