Gee…We Never Saw *This* Coming Now Did We?

and...the Great depression has been usurped!

“[F]or the first time since the Great Depression, Americans took more aid from the government than they paid in taxes” so sayeth the Washington Times:

The so-called “Great Recession” has left Americans depending on the government dole like never before.

Without record levels of welfare, unemployment and other government benefits as well as tax cuts last year, the income of U.S. households would have plunged by an astonishing $723 billion — more than four times the record $167 billion drop reported last month by the Commerce Department.
[snip]
“Governmental support was critical in keeping the economy, particularly consumer spending, from completely collapsing during the crisis,” said Harm Bandholz, an economist at Unicredit Markets. He said he is concerned that so much of the economic rebound is a result of government spending rather than a revival of private income and jobs. That situation is unsustainable, he said, because the government has had to borrow massively to prop up the economy and cannot continue that binge for long.

However much energy the Obama Administration puts in to its arguments favoring expanded deficits and raising the ceiling on our National Debt, this President and his “Hope and Change” nonsense is driving us into the ground. I don’t need to be an economist to comprehend the statement “That situation is unsustainable.” While the Feds spend money they aren’t recovering in tax revenues we are heading down a path from which we can not recover in our lifetimes. Must learn Chinese…MUST learn Chinese.

We have seen enough bloat and waste and State & Federal budget collapses over the past 20 years to recognize the numbers of generations it takes to reinvigorate the Fed coffers…allowing them to keep finding new and ever-cooler ways to spend money they don’t have on things we don’t need (or can live without for a while) is going to ruin us.

No WONDER Bunning is quickly becoming an urban legend in the minds of the Left-he’s mucking up a perfectly good plan to establish the largest monopoly in American history-the Federal Government. Too bad our Political Heroes are too busy buying votes to recognize just how many they’re going to LOSE when the grown ups catch on.

learn Chinese – forget French, German & Spanish……

Someday they will be working for the Chinaman and knowing the language will be the only way to get ahead…..

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

WAY ahead of yall...

I’m already learning Chinese. The scary thing is Chinese students have been learning English for a long time… and have ENGLISH competitions… and they are better at English than most Americans.

Been reading Jim Rogers who shares similar views to both of you and actually took 1 step further by going to Singapore and teaching his daughters Mandarin.

I like to think of myself as an optimist, but when I look at the value placed on higher education and the strong family unit in the Chinese/Confucian society and compare that with what’s going on in America….as a realist it’s very difficult for me to do so.

Where is the Republican support behind Bunning?

Michael Dugas (Diary) Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:06PM EST (link)

I know he’s retiring so he has nothing to lose but this is one of our party’s biggest issues. Why are the rest of the Republicans staying mute? Are they all cowards? They need to be out there explaining that this isn’t about denying people their unemployment but about making congress show some fiscal sanity and follow their own rules
(PayGo). Funny how Reid is condemning Bunning for making a case for PayGo when he didn’t vote for it yet there is Reid ignoring PayGo after he voted FOR it and remarked how important it is. This has to be
put out there and the Republican leadership should be making their case as loud as possible!

You make too much sense Michael

which is why it hasn’t happened yet. “Must find some rhetorical gibberish nonsense that garners votes first”

I can remember my Dad

louisiana (Diary) Tuesday, March 2nd at 10:01PM EST (link)

telling me in the mid ’80′s(?) that China was the country to fear. He would never buy anything made in China, because he felt he would just be contributing to their military fund. Second thought- I fear a Great Depression.
From everything I’ve read, the world, not just the U.S., will experience a
“bailout bubble”. I hate to be so negative, but I can’t see the U.S. pulling out of this unless drastic measures are taken to curb spending, & I don’t see that happening.

The Depression will look like a walk in the park!

teridavisnewman (Diary) Wednesday, March 3rd at 9:56AM EST (link)

If we don’t get a handle on this excessive spending, we are going to have an economic crisis that will make the Depression look like an episode of Happy Days.
We have got to elect a Congress of business people who understand economics instead of the people who are there now and insulated from the realities of life. We have to cut all unnecessary spending and cut out all of the waste and fraud and duplicate programs. We as a country are going to have to bite the economic bullet and do what’s right for the country and start saying “we can’t afford it” to these profligate spendthrifts who want to borrow more than they can tax the public to return. We are headed for a crisis and it’s going to be here very soon. Trying to spend your way to prosperity is like trying to drink your way out of alcoholism–it makes no sense! Stop wasting money on stupid make work projects and fix our crumbling infrastructure which creates jobs and does a good thing for the country and get over this high speed rail that is nothing but a pipe dream!

I can remember too

I remember reading letters sent by Chinese political prisoners begging us not to trade with China. Since WHEN did this communist country become our FRIEND and ALLY? During the Clinton administration? Don’t forget the close ties with the Communist Military leaders and their frequent visits, don’t forget the sale of nuclear secrets in exchange for campaign contributions. How DARE we do business with military leaders who are to this day torturing and killing Christians who meet in private homes and don’t attend the “state” church!!! Don’t think with our political correctness it won’t come here. The Tea Party is the only large group who is not willing to see this country go down the tubes. Pray for our leaders to turn to God.

Daddy can I have my money back now?

stevopevo (Diary) Wednesday, March 3rd at 12:41PM EST (link)

Being on the so called dole. Is not entirely accurate. If you talk about unemployment benefits that is your money that your government forced you to put away for this occasion. Only they told you to put it in their pocket for safe keeping. Now that you need it because they have screwed up the economy it appears it wasn’t put away for you it was spent by them. A parent who treated their child like that would be thrown in jail. By another agency that has also proven to be worthless.

Need to read.

If people really want to know what is happening then they need to read “Americas bubble economy” by David Wiedemer” Phd. I have a degree in Accounting and a background in Economics. This book was written in 2005 and published in 2006 and predicted this economic mess by two years, It us the result of three bubbles which bursted at once which were the Housing,Stock Market and Credit. Housing is going to get worse because there are more people who are behind in their mortgage payments by three months in January 2009 as compared to 2008.Variable mortgages have already matured. . They havent reset because Bernanke has kept the Federal Funds rate at zero. When interest rates go up then they will reset and more people will be in foreclosure which will add to the already increase in possible foreclosures,,Interest rates will also go up if Foreign lenders pull out and then comes the Debit bubble etc.The majority of the voters voted for this situation. Just bend over.

If interest rates go up, foreign money will return (nt)
