From The Bush’s Fault Files: Obama Expands Militarization Of The Persian Gulf

No Missiles For Oil!!!!!

What a curious approach to diplomacy our President has chosen for Iran. Having promised to meet them with no preconditions back in ’07 as a candidate, President Obama has decided to deploy a “missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.” How far we’ve come in our journey with Obama’s “on the job training” gig. Too bad he doesn’t care as much about our allies in Eastern Europe…but I digress:

The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping Saudi Arabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.

American officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region. Washington is also seeking to discourage Israel from a strike against Iran by demonstrating that the US is prepared to contain any threat.

Given Iran’s recent threat to “deliver a harsh blow to “global arrogance” on February 11″ (along with all the other kooky things they say and do) this might seem a reasonable precautionary measure.

But this is not a reasonable President.

The timing here is spooky; Iran makes a veiled threat, Obama announces a record Defense budget and quickly follows up with plans to significantly deepen funding for nuclear weapons work. There are obviously “conditions on the ground” that are dictating what Obama has to do, but the instinctive reflex to continue putting it on Gorge W. Bush’s shoulders continues to entertain (emphasis mine):

The deployment comes after Obama’s attempts to emphasise diplomacy over confrontation in dealing with Iran – a contrast to the Bush administration’s approach – have failed to persuade Tehran to open its nuclear installations to international controls.
[snip]
The move is a continuation of the military build-up begun under former president George W Bush. In the past two years, Abu Dhabi has bought $17bn (£11bn) worth of weapons from the US, including the Patriot anti-missile batteries and an advanced anti-missile system. UAE recently bought 80 US-made fighter jets. It is also buying fighters from France.

Obama’s ’07 assertion that “Iran’s support for militant groups in Iraq reflected its anxiety over the Bush administration’s policies in the region” and his repeated insistence since that time that Bush’s aggression against Hussein made Iran mad at us to begin with translates into Obama’s Persian Gulf conundrum thusly: “Because George Bush stood against bad guys, now I have to keep standing against bad guys.”

Dick Cheney was the man behind Bush right? Why NOT have Bush be the man behind Obama? Seems reasonable enough to me at least…it’s worked well for Obama so far.

The real world is dangerous

IronDioPriest (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 12:59AM EST (link)

The place America occupies on the international stage, and the stark reality that America must deal with enemy nations is an inconvenience for this charlatan President. He would rather have his full and undivided attention going toward transforming America into what he believes she should be as a result of the injustices he perceives she is infinitely guilty of.

Ahmadinejad? Just a PITA to Mr. Hussein Obama that he’d rather not be dealing with.

At least he is reacting

Instead of trying to talk Iran to death…
So I suppose it could be even worse.

I'd be happy

if only I could be certain there were SOMEONE behind Obama with a bit of experience and nerve.

Not happy yet, though.

Big Show

Looks like his campaign as the “peace candidate” turned out to be a big show after all. What, beside the order to close yet not close Guantanamo has Obama followed through with when it comes to foreign policy? Has there been a single speck of “open dialogue” with any of the hostile regimes around the world?

Not that I think he was necessarily totally right in his proposals, but it’s certainly interesting how so many people actually believed he would be a departure from Bush policy. In fact he has–he’s been more aggressive and more willing to cross into sovereign territory.

Not Quite...

Barack Hussein Obama’s strategy is reactive and not proactive. Worse… it is intended to undermine Israel’s efforts to solve the problem and concedes Iran’s intention to deploy nuclear weapons exposing as a lie Barack Hussein Obama’s entire Foreign Policy agenda in the Middle East.

In other words… Barack Hussein Obama sold out the people of Iran to the Mullahs and knew he was doing it all along.

Where's the outrage?

All the lefties who until a year ago were talking about “Bush’s cowboy diplomacy”, “don’t go it alone”, “missile shields are an act of aggression”, “give peace a chance”, “let the UN handle it”, “that’ll make them hate us more”, “Iran is all bluster”, “give diplomacy time to work”, etc., etc. seem to have suddenly become completely silent.

Meanwhile, on February 11 . . .

Scott Brown will be sworn in as the Republican Senator from Massachusetts, dealing a blow to the arrogance of Progressive Big Government Socialism.

That may turn out to be a happy coincidence.

Short of actually touching off a nuclear weapon on the 11th, Brown being sworn in will be a bigger story.

If the Iranians DO actually have a bomb and touch it off on the 11th, that works politically too. Nothing could underscore the need to remove many more anti-war Democrats from power than to have them look on as they see another Islamist nuclear power come to the fore.

Iranian Atomic Bomb Scenarios: A Bluff?

Ausonius (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 11:05AM EST (link)

Via a former member of the staff of the First President Bush: the talk is that Iran might proclaim an underground test of an atomic bomb.

But that it will be a fake, a bluff a la Saddam’s stockpiles.

Certainly they might actually test one for propaganda: the Islamic Bomb is here!

That they would lob a missile over at Israel is remote, but not impossible: such an action obviously complicates MAObama’s pacifistic agenda.

to Iran? Did he forget in his rush to create jobs, the rush rediscovered after a full year of failure, and that will channel yet more money to Democrat interests?

No. Bush would actually push the button on Iran if that's the only possibility that remained.
