There was a draft exemption called Premature Anti-fascist, PAF, for those who left the US and fought with the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. Even though the US and the USSR became allies, the US considered the Communist loyalty to be disqualifying for service in the US Military.

There's got to be better awareness and reporting. I think from here on out people will be less afraid of being attacked by the politically correct if they have some suspicions.

There was an interview at Huffpo with a colleague of his at Ft. Hood that was surprised at his radical talk right from the start.

If we don't make a large public effort to tighten up procedures we'll only encourage more terrorists to infiltrate. Ah, look how easy it is to infiltrate America, and they pay you to boot!

because in the Cold War military if you had a soldier who kept talking about how great Marx and Lenin and Mao were, that soldier would get discharged as a security risk.

I would bet that back in WW2, a soldier who spoke about how great Tojo and Tokyo Rose were would get booted out too - or maybe just get a thorough education from the other guys in his unit.

It's just common sense that in today's world, any soldier who says that jihad and terrorism are great is a security risk.

C_C

Maybe you are right, but how do you create a system or procedures that meet the objective of looking out for people who might do the sort of stuff that just happened without creating a climate of distrust among men and women who count on others to have their back in combat? Do you limit to just Muslims or do you include people of other faith backgrounds? Who decides, what protections from such a program being miss-used in the say way complaints against police often are?

I don't know how you do it, ideas?

WHAT WAR? The one you refuse to recognize (WAR ON TERROR) that we are fighting. That they died in a TERRORIST ATTACK perpetrated by a lone wolf TERRORIST (that was in contact with other Terrorists) is refused to be acknowledged by you, the Obamao-ist, and your other Mao-ist Liberal Obamunist Admin. morons!

HOW PATHETIC SIR (and I hate to even bother to address you as "Sir," and am only doing so out of respect for the Office and that "some" of your words were FINALLY the right ones --- but we know you don't mean them)!!!! (Note, respect for Office, those who see my sig-line and don't get the "He is Not my President as a JOKE and TWEAK at Lib's that had done that to Bush) How PATHETIC that you, the Mao-ist-In-Chief, would again TRY TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS! Try to placate those of us that actually care about our Fallen Troops and their "Cause" to DEFEND OUR NATION with these words at Ft. Hood and then return to Washington DC and DENY THE WAR ON TERROR!!!!

The best coverage of hasan's 'religious' views, and of piecing his personal actions together (that I have found), is the following: www.jihadwatch.org . Within the posts on this site, Robert Spencer (author and jihadist\Islam\Muslim expert) has reported on hasan's religious practices, his rantings pertaining as to 'why' muslims should not fight against their 'brothers', and has even posted one of jihadist hasan's powerpoint presentations "Nidal Hasan explains the Koran and Isam" (about Islam, Muslims, and the military)
If one can read this summary, combine it with news reports and eye-witness comments, and then walk away inferring he is not a terrorist, well... then I have a great health plan I'd like to sell you.

that there will always be some lunatics that have escaped the institution, or were never put there to begin with. There were warning signs about the Virginia Tech shooter, there were warning signs that a 9/11 type attack may be coming, and, I'm sure there were warning signs that McVeigh was up to no good. Having said that, the terror level alert system at Ft. Hood should have been elevated to red once Hasan arrived there. By the hour, I am reading more and more reports from those with knowledge of Hasan, his statements, his actions and etc are coming out of the woodwork. Most depressing is the vast amount of knowledge the Army had about him, yet not only did nothing, but, promoted him to Major.

The future will show whether Hasan did it for Allah and his fellow Muslims, or whether he just snapped one day,

The future hell, eyewitness accounts and all factual news reports tell us he was a terrorist.

but what the rest of us STILL face is the notion that no one can be fully trusted, no one can be relied on to protect us from this, and no one..CERTAINLY not the Federal Bureaucracy…can be looked to for providing any of us with personal safety and security

If you say so. But speak for yourself, not "the rest of us." I could generate a pretty long list of objectively trustworthy people in roles of public protection. Interestingly, I doubt a one of them would consider themselves "liberal."

What do Hassan & Hussein have in Common?

Both despise the American Soldier and both have a serious problem with sending American Soldiers to fight fellow Moslems in Afghanistan.

Note:
Before you get all riled up and attack the messenger, remember both Joes were correct too.
The Plumber was correct about income redistribution and Wilson was correct that illegals will be covered under Obamacare.

Were he to actually DO anything, knowing what he is, I doubt we'd like it.

in the Country. They could know just as much about that person as the Army and others evidently knew about Hasan, and they most likely would have done little or nothing about it.

The fear of discrimination and harassment complaints and suits is so great inside government that anyone who is a member of a protected class is pretty much immune even from scrutiny and they are almost totally immune from discipline and discharge.

My government was one of the more agressive of the unionized states in dealing with performance issues but as a general matter when a supervisor or manager called me about a performance issue, my first question was whether or not the employee was a member of a protected class.

When we need to seriously consider the possibility of not allowing Muslim troops to serve. I know that not all Muslims are evil, and I know that this would not please the PC crowd. But sometimes we have to think of protecting our nation, not making people feel good.

nothing, and our safety will still depend on chance, luck, circumstance and the vigilance of fellow citizens. I cannot imagine the bitterness and anger that the families of those slain and wounded last week must be feeling now that they know how many times this man could have been stopped.

But he wasn't. And now the question is how many more out there will be emboldened by this man's actions to do something similar or worse?
