[A brief half hour after the original post, the House passed the "Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act" and I apologize for not catching that the vote was to actually take place today after all. I share with you, for your reading pleasure, the GOP members that chose to stab us in the back over the Energy crisis. Thank any of them that represent YOU (but not your interests) if you are so inclined.
Buchanan, Castle, Gilchrest, Hayes, Inglis, Jones (NC), Kirk, Knollenberg, LaHood, LoBiondo, Porter, Ramstad, Reichert, Shays, and Smith (NJ)
Of course, with 13 Dems going with US by voting no, the margin was closer...and 8 Republicans chose not to drag their sorry butts to the floor to engage the fight...Ron Paul among them fwiw. Either way, the majority the Dems enjoy because of 2006 would have passed this thing no matter what. Elections DO matter folks.
Thanks for nothing you 15 GOP scumbags...no, really. We'll be thinking of you every day at the pumps...and on election day as well.]
I offered the House GOP a challenge a month ago today. Of course, being a nobody, no one in the House GOP actually got back to me…but hey-I’m not sensitive. Now that Congress is back in session, however, this deserves another shout out. Consider Congressman Pence today at Redstate and his urging that we all contact the Democrats and tell them to vote “NO” on Speaker Pelosi’s energy bill.
See, here’s the thing GOP Congress critters…
**I don’t want you THERE at all**.
More below the “**we’re begging you guys**” fold…
Stage a walk out, a work-stoppage, a strike if you will…in the name of the American taxpayers that pay your salaries. If you force Congress to shut down due to a failure to reach a quorum, the ban will be lifted with NO help from the Democrats. I WANT to pay you to not go to work until Oct. 2, 2008. Do you have it in you?
No one has to sign their name to any bills that might endanger their re-election chances. No one will be held accountable, and no one will be blamed…except the Speaker, Nancy Pelosi…and no one will hold it against you. It worked in Texas over the re-districting fiasco… Heck, you’ll even help McCain by not forcing him to side with the gang of [fill in the blank pandering parade] disaster.
As I said a month ago, do it, and do it now.
Congressional inaction has gone on for two years now. While you have been on the clock you have accomplished nothing meaningful that addresses the needs of “we, the People.” Here is your chance to actually DO something meaningful by actually doing nothing at all. You failed us on spending. You failed us on Iraq, and on entitlements and a whole host of other issues we told you were critical when we elected you. Here’s your chance to actually DO something we need, critically, by not showing up for work. There’s little difference either way, at this point, and you’ll actually be doing our bidding for once…and doing yourselves a huge favor. For the first time in your lives let your inaction actually WORK for the American people – go on strike.
Do not return to session until the ban expires.

Democrat "Energy Bill" is a fraud as are Democrats and any Republicans who attempt "bipartisan" compromise.
stang (Diary) Tuesday, September 16th at 10:28PM EST (link)With all due respect to Congressman Pence and his exhortations to call Democrat reps and counsel them to vote against their energy bill, he’s all wet.
The fact that this bill has even been scheduled for a vote, sans debate, proves Democrat’s complete disregard of the American people. What makes Congressman Pence think Democrats will respond favorably to our pleas? Guilty consciences?
Any Republicans showing up for the vote on this bill will be lending credibility to this fraudulent bill and aiding and abetting the further destruction of our economy and ultimately, our country, by the Democrats!
Bipartisanship and comity be damned. Stay home until the ban has expired!

I guess a filibuster would be too much to ask? Too many of our Senators have sold out on it. I have the feeling McCain will support it fully, or say something like “It’s a start, but we need to do more” and vote for it.
Very disappointing.

A Bush Veto...
DrOldSchool (Diary) Wednesday, September 17th at 1:35AM EST (link)may only work if McCain votes for the bill. Otherwise, I envision 6 weeks of the MSM and DNC/Obama ads playing the Bush card, showing how he and McCain continue to work “together” to hurt the American family and support big oil profits, while probably using quotes from the convention to claim that McCain can’t be trusted on the issue. Is that a fight we can take on right now?
If McCain supports the measure, while also claiming more needs to go with it, then maybe he has a shot to keep it as a viable issue for our side, and distance himself a little more from the administration in the process (not that he was ever really close).
Lets face it, we know its a bad bill, and its method of passage was shady at best. But if it’s spun to the general public as the GOP/McCain not supporting the means they have been touting all summer to solve the problem, I can’t see any good coming out of it. Particularly in the short time period that is left before the election, I don’t think there’s enough time for an all-out assault (like last summer against the Amnesty bill) showing the general public why this bill does not do enough. There are too many other issues on the table right now for the voter who hasn’t paid close enough attention to the topics to absorb.

Why do you think they want to
Achance (Diary) Wednesday, September 17th at 3:10AM EST (link)do something?
I’m really conflicted on this. It is in my and my state’s interest for the Democrats to win this; the price of oil goes up and we make more money. Since I’m well aware of what America thinks of Nowhere, amply demonstrated by how the Governor of Nowhere has been treated, it is really hard for me to care what ya’ll pay for gas. My wife and I got almost $7K in our bank accounts last Friday just for being alive in Alaska; I like that.
I support McP because I simply can’t abide the thought of the closest thing we’ve had to a real Manchurian Candidate being President of the United States and I am loyal to my Country, but actually my interest, if not my children and grandchidren’s, is actually best served by an Obama Presidency and a Democrat Congress. It’s all just a matter of how you look at it.

Obama Mocking McCain's Gov. Commission
angels16 Wednesday, September 17th at 5:19AM EST (link)Obama, still reeling from McCain’s barrage of truth campaigning, Mocked McCain on his wanting to start a Commission to investigate the Government’s involvment in bailing out Private institutions. He Mocks it because he is not smart enough to think of that on his own. He mocks it because McCain is right. He mocks it because he is losing this fight. Obama says that what is needed is Presidential leadership, not commissions. Leadership is important, words are empty, especially coming from Obama, whose forte is public speaking. Obama mocks because he has no idea what to do in this crisis. He said that he would be a leader, without saying what he would do to affect the outcome. Words from Obama: EMPTY.
Obama also made a jab at McCain by saying the economy is now bringing the Campaigns back to the issues. Obama says that the petty attacks were detracting from the issues, and now they could concentrate on the election. Of course he would say that, he is the one attacking Palin non-stop, attacking McCain, and this coming from a Senator who said he was all about change. He implicates himself at every turn, exposes himself. When he attacks McCain, he really just exposes himself, and shows that he is not for Change, that his pick of Biden just shows that he is the one that wants 4 more years of Bush.
McCain is right, we should not bail out these private institutions with Government money. Does anyone remember the Great Depression? While that would not happen like that again, we are still struggling, and this situation exposes Wall Street greed and corruption. We all know it was there, and now its out in the open. Just like corruption in politics, we all know its there, and soon McCain will put an end to it. Lobbyist’s are the jackels tearing at the soft underbelly of our government. Obama has taken millions from lobbyists, McCain has taken nothing from them. That says a lot about our candidates.
Obama is all talk and no substance. How could a first term Senator, who has spent 2 years in the senate (and 2 years campaigning for President) get nominated for President? That shows how desperate the Democrats are to find someone who can sway the public to win an election. Everyone knows that the Democrats are corrupt, but morally and fiscaly (and phyically), so the Dems must find a way to pull the wool over the publics eye’s, and they think Obama is the way to do it. A great orator with a rockstar persona, they think that that is enough to impress Americans enough to vote for Obama. They think Americans are stupid, and the star status and mingling with Hollywood stars will give him the street credit that he needs, and people will vote for him. They forget that only young people think this way, and there is no substitute for experience. Unlike the private sector, the Presidential race is not influenced by affirmative action. The President is hired by the people based on who is the most qualified, not by the color of their skin. This is why Affirmative Action is broken. Whoever thought up of that was a Moron. All it is is reverse discrimination, when it should be that the most qualified person for the job gets the job. Instead of Affirmative Action, why not put more money into getting everyone an education, then the most qualified person will get the job, and it may just be a person of color. People forget, that by 2042, whites will be the new minority. Do you think that they will yell and scream about affirmative action, or come up with excuses not to succeed? Will they blame “the man” for keeping them down, the police or anyone in charge for creating an atmosphere of oppression, or for the limited opportunities for those with college degrees? Call me cynical, but I think not. They will not look for ways to dodge success. They will continue as they have, and not look to scapegoat anyone for their lack of success or opportunities. Sorry, truth hurts, but someone has got to tell it like it is.
Bottom line people, there is still 49 days left until the election, and a lot could still happen in that time. We know Obama did not want to tour the country with McCain and have town hall debates because those would have shown Obama’s weakness, flaws, and his empty words. Obamas defense is that people don’t really know him, because if they did, American would not only not vote for him, but they would wonder how he was even nominated to run in the Primaries (sp?). If Americans really knew Obama (we are starting to get the picture), they would certainly question his record on being a Senator. McCain needs to focus on Obama’s empty words and lack of experience to lead this country. Seize on his mocking of a commission to investigate the government’s bailout of these financial institutions, and Obama’s empty words and his inability to come up with a plan. Hit energy independence hard, as this is on the forefront of voters minds. We are in the midst of the largest transfer of wealth in the history of the world, and these countries who are profiting from this are using it against us. We must not allow this. We see what these countries do with our money, and they not only use it against us, but it has weakened the dollar. Even Russia is in on the energy boon, and they are experiencing growing pains, and are using the money to re-establish their sphere of influence in their part of the world. We see what is happening in the Caucuses, and in Georgia, and it will continue to happen if NATO does not get Poland, Ukraine, and Georgia (just to name the most prominant, there are more) into the alliance, Russia will take them back over, and democracy will be stamped out in that part of the world. If Germany does not have the guts to stand up to Russia and help a country in need, then NATO needs to be revamped. I remember a time when Germany was in need, and NATO took them into the fold. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and Germany does not remember it’s roots. The Democratic Congress and Senate have not expanded Off shore drilling, and American is losing out on the energy boon, and we are suffering for it. The dems have not done what is right, and they never will. They see everything as a Partisan issue, and use it as a stumbling block for the republicans. The Dems cannot be trusted with America’s future and Security. We need energy independence, because this is a National Security issue.
The election will come down to the issues, and the details. Enough question has been raised with Obama, but now is not the time to back off. Keep the pressure on. Obama is a farce, and the public needs to know. So keep hitting Energy independence, Obama’s holes and blind spots, and his inability to come up with real solutions to the problems at hand. Also continue to ease fears on Social Security and health care plans for everyone. The economy is important, as are cutting taxes. The Dems are panicing, because they are exposed. The public is now seeing the liberal mainstream media as orchestrating this election for the democrats, and it will cost them the election. The public also sees Obama’s attacks on Palin and the attacks by the media. Again, this will cost the Democrats the election, as it should. The Democrats are desperate, and they are making rash decisions to try and get elected. This cannot be tolerated, and putting someone that is a good orator but has absolutely no experience into the Presidential office is unacceptable, and dangerous. In these turbulent times, we need a person that has the experience and foreign policy to help keep America strong, but to also get her back on the path of being strong financially. The only way this can be done is through Energy Independence. If we don’t do this, the terrorists will win. They are already winning when it comes to the devalued dollar. WE must act to stop the hemorraging, and only McCain/Palin can bring the CHANGE and REFORM that WASHINGTON needs.

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2008/09/bill-foster-ene.html
In the details of the bill, the Dems want to make major modifications to the way mortgages are underwritten to allow for homes that are energy efficient or close to mass transit.
We are having HUGE problems because there were a ton of loans that were poorly underwritten and now the Dems want to create MORE of a problem?
About Ron Paul! & Lampson
jwebb (Diary) Wednesday, September 17th at 8:46AM EST (link)I was ready to fire off a nasty-gram to Paul’s office about failing to vote against this piece of junk, but even I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. His district and that of Houston’s Lampson (D) are in very bad shape after hurricane Ike. Instead, I believe I’ll write him and urge him to continue staying away from Washington.
Oh that only the MSM would tell the whole truth to the public once and a awhile. Pelosi’s concept of an open and transparent House is such a sham with bill after bill being run down the hall in the dark of night and with crap like this mortage benefits thrown into an energy bill. Shameless.
That was my initial reaction as well
