Thank You Senator Obama, For Making This So *Easy*

The selection of Joe Biden to be a heart beat away from the Presidency re-invigorates and refreshes this politics-weary old guy. All that clap trap about hope and change and fixing Washington because it was “broken” from our poor misguided Barack Obama had a lot of people going…for awhile. Long enough to get Hillary out of the spotlight – and we thank you for that Senator. A lot of us had already had more than a gullet-full of “that woman” and you were at least able to make her disappear.

Well done.

A lot of us have been ambivalent about John McCain because, on the one hand he is not a surgically clean “Conservative” nor does he espouse many of the principles and ideals we so-called “movement Conservatives” hold so dear. On the other hand, of course, he is not Barack Obama. Having said that, however, “movement Conservatism” is not what this election is about. In fact, this election may really have become that moment in history that sees “ideological purity” finally removed from political discourse all together. Clearly, the selection of John McCain from a field that had, arguably, a decent number of “almost-purists” has made it abundantly clear to we “far right-wingers” that winning is far more important than being right, and we have settled into this new place reserved for us within the GOP (albeit kicking and screaming).

But Barack Obama has a lot of really bad ideas for what America needs, and he has no clue about what America wants. He is as far removed from the rank and file American citizen as a politician can be. So, too, is his running mate. And for Biden to misspeak, on day 1 of his candidacy, of a Barack America and to hear Obama himself misspeak in referring to Biden as the next President, it’s obvious we are about to embark on a 2 month mystery tour with the two stooges; sounding pretty and trashing the competition is what the dream team wishes to subject us to and, frankly, they’ll un-elect themselves without any assistance from Johnny Mac. That these two men would have us believe they know best what we’ll need to focus on for the next 4 or 8 years is beyond comedy. It’s just theater, and we’re going to be asked now to engage in a few months of rock ‘em sock ‘em robots between the young black guy and his old white guy sidekick as they go toe to toe with another old white guy…and presumably… another old white guy.

More below the “man,I feel a whole better now” fold…

They’ll rant and rave about which one wants more of your money to give away to other people. They’ll take turns trying to convince us which one cares more about the unborn death rate or sending Soldiers to the right and wrong places to fight the bad guys they’re not exactly sure exist. They’ll try to one-up each other over what the right number of immigration-law violators should be, and they’ll even tug at our wallets as they fight over going green (whatever the hell THAT means anymore)…and in the end, come November, we’ll all be really glad it’s over.

It’s safe to say that America can not afford Barack Obama, and we’re going to be sick to death of smokin’ Joe Biden by the end of October. And, when the dust settles, the grownups around here that still look out for the collective best interests of our country will have successfully averted a disastrous administration by putting McCain in the White House to hold us over until some younger grown ups can be found that really DO care more about the best interests of “we, the People” that pay THEM to do our bidding…in the White House and around the Halls of Congress…than they do about all that fame and celebrity they lust for.

However much I might struggle with McCain, this is a slam dunk now…thanks Barry, for the memories…but most of all for helping me see the error of my earlier ways.

McCain and ANYBODY.. ’08

Far from over

It’s amazing to me that some of my fellow Republicans want to declare a rout even before the first ballot is cast. IMHO, this is the most critical election in my lifetime and Barak Obama has an overwhelming advantage this election cycle. This type of political “High Five” my make us feel better, but we are way behind and need to keep our ‘eye on the ball” in order to fight tooth and nail for every vote, because we’re going to NEED them.

I, personally, have been struggling with McCain. The Biden pick now ensures that I will vote instead of sitting on my hands in November.

Was one of the “sideliners” for the upcoming election, but now that Biden is in the mix I simply must get onboard the (gulp) McCain Express. I wasn’t sure there was another ego as big a Obama’s but I do think he has managed to find another that is even bigger! Joe”Blow” Biden has no business in the White House in any capacity. Sorry my “None of the Above” compatriots, time for me to get off the fence.

in their cheer leading, pimping capacity as imitation news sources/Democratic auxiliaries. How to cover the blunders & warts of both Barack and Joe. They were or are running into trouble just with Obama, try as they might to turn him into something passably respectable. Now with Biden !
This could turn into a three ring circus, a burlesque, one of the great laffers of American politics. For this hapless trio [Barack, Joe, and you better believe, Michelle] much will depend on how much filth can be heaped on McCain.

Biden’s selection tells us all we need to know: Despite all rhetoric to the contrary, Obama knows his candidacy is in serious trouble, and since he has no clue how to stop the slide, he’s been relegated to grasping at straws.

I’m sorry, Sen. Obama. Hope and Change will not stop the slide, and neither will Sen. Biden.

I’ve voted in every presidential election since Nixon, and IIRC, this is the only cycle in which national polling has not shown the Democratic candidate heading in to Labor Day with a comfortable double-digit lead.

In short: Obama is trailing, he is powerless to stop the slide and his campaign has entered a phase that is nothing short of panic mode.

More musings

redneck_hippie (Diary) Sunday, August 24th at 1:57PM EST (link)

How much influence on the Biden choice was:

1) Economic justice (It’s Not Fair!!!)

2) the Hillary problem

3) Obama’s infanticide problem

4) Some of the more viable choices ran away from it. (you’d have to run away from it if you had any sense, right?)

If any help is forthcoming from Biden, it will take time in stump speeches, interviews and the debate. From the talk shows, it appears the leftists are making a huge deal of class struggle– Biden’s Scranton and economic origins. This carries through with their hammering McCain on his wife’s wealth.

No doubt an initial influence was Obama’s commander in chief problem and the inexperienced problem. My thought is that Biden will help with neither of these, but then again we’re talking about Democrats here.

I expect McCain to stay focused like a laser beam on Obama. Biden can be flicked off by ANY VP McCain chooses.

Straw man

kamran Sunday, August 24th at 2:08PM EST (link)

Yeah, but this is exactly the misconception. The majority of the left isn’t anymore socialist or marxist that the majority of the right is monarchical, fascist, totalitarian, or pro-slavery hegemonists. But when you’re standing on one side of the fence, and looking at the more radical and visible parts of the other side, it sure looks that way. But it’s just the fringe, and definitely not part of the fringe that Obama and Biden stand on. Bringing state-funded benefits to the underprivileged is in itself so far from the extremes of soviet marxism it really makes me wonder what sort of understanding redstaters have of these terms.

And love of country? Let’s just accept the absolutely plain fact that anyone who is invested in the election loves America, life, freedom, equality, representation, and elected officials. All our differences aren’t about love of America: they’re about how to make the best America we can have.

Strelnikov (Diary) Sunday, August 24th at 2:19PM EST (link)

I would like to believe, but the evidence from Obama and company shows me that they do *not *believe much in freedom, since their expanded nanny state would do away with several everyday freedoms (rf. the Democrats in San Francisco trying to police the garbage one throws away), not to mention big ones like the Orwellian-named “Fairness Doctrine,” and that they think America is a fairly awful place (rf. Michelle Obama’s comments on how awful her life has been as a $350,000 a year bureaucrat for a hospital, Obama’s friendships with America-haters like Wright and Ayers, etc.).

Until it becomes a 100% socialist nanny state – “and no religion too ” – they do not accept American freedoms and ideals. It seems, rather, they want to use our freedom and ideals to produce a state where those things are severely limited or lost forever.

Obama needed a potential gaffe machine like Biden at his side. One, to take away the gaffes he makes. Two, he also needed a fighter like Biden to take the hits for him.

outside the libertarian fringe.

Limited government does not necessarily mean no government involvement. It means size of government and it usually refers to federal involvement.

Outlawing abortion, for instance, doesn’t increase the size or scope of government any more than outlawing moonshine.

And we don’t want to define what a woman can do with her body, though I’d note that minors have to have parental consent to get a tattoo but not an abortion. What we’re concerned about is what a woman does with the body of a child.

Abortion is not constitutional and the “rights” that the court created are not found in the constitution. In fact the constitution is supposed to guarantee life.

The definition of marriage has always been one man and one woman. Sorry if this offends your progressive nature but that’s just the way it is. I actually don’t believe that the gov’t needs to define this so I don’t know where you are coming from here.

Greetings Mr. Brown!

You wrote:

“Limited government” does NOT mean “stay out of everything” which is a phony definition of conservatism: “limited” means precisely that. There will be some interference by Law in what you are allowed to do.

The problem is not what a pregnant woman does with her body: it is what she does TO her child! There are again limits on what you may do to your boody: if you are chopping off your hands piece by piece, government will quite rightly interfere and stop you.

As marriage and the family are the basis for order in any human society, again government has a right to define that.

There. That makes more sense. The progressives are the ones wanting Federal judges to legislate from the bench and define what a woman can do with that child she is carrying and what defines marriage.

Defining Marriage

Strelnikov (Diary) Monday, August 25th at 2:12PM EST (link)

Normally, in normal times, government would NOT need to define marriage, because it was obvious what it meant.

However, these are not normal times, and therefore, as I wrote below, it will help if government does now indeed by law define marriage as “one woman-one man.”

You obviously abide to the “Wall of Separation” theory. To bad that theory is based on an incorrect interpretation of the Constitution.

The Church should not be infringed upon by the government. And limiting morals to only within the walls of the church would be pointless.

Sure we can.

It’s only you lefties who think we can’t. A constitutional amendment banning gay marriage doesn’t make government bigger, it just makes the constitution bigger.

I’ve heard this was a predominantly conservative site. As a moderate who subscribes to no ONE way of thinking I like to visit both sides of the line.

I’m not here to start trouble. Thats not me. My bad if I offended anyone.

Compromise is the way of the future…not partylines…

I would say we understand you more than you would like us to....n/t

MrBrown, I'm not sure if we've made it clear. Use "THE REPLY TO THIS" button.

I know it’s a rule, it’s an anti-establishment thing, it’s something a conservative would probably do.

Try it. Using “Reply to this” won’t automatically make you part of the VRWC. :)
