After the Tea Party – What’s next?

I went to the tax party here in Roanoke. It was great to see so many likeminded people, and to see everyone energized and ready to take action. So, what do we do with all of this energy?

There are two ways to move government in a different direction. Change the mind of incumbents, or replace them. We should advance on both fronts.

The Tea Parties themselves should help.  But we need to come to some sort of minimal agreement on what we want out of our representatives. And we need to e-mail them, write them, call them, and fax them so they know that our positions are not taken lightly.  State and national politicians must clearly understand that change will happen, whether or not they’re still in office to see it.

Secondly, we must promote, and where necessary BE, small-government candidates. The GOP in particular has shown that it’s willing to patronize conservatives, and then continue to grow government and take our money and give it to their rich friends. We must turn out for small-government candidates in the primaries, regardless of the party they choose. And we must also let the GOP know that we’re not giving them money to support the Arlen Specters of the world. When you get that request for money, send back a note that says “not until you promise to spend it ONLY for small-government candidates”.

Lastly, and this is the toughest, saddest part, we have to vote for small government candidates, even if that means running a 3rd candidate for some offices. Today’s politicians respond to money and power. We may not have enough money to pay them to do the right thing.  But if we turn away from corrupt, power hungry politicians, they’ll be sent home. Better for GOP incumbents to lose than to re-elect them with the same results. The sooner we clean house, the sooner we can get started fixing the problem.

That’s what primaries are for.

We can effect change in the incumbents by showing them that we will challenge them in the primary

And you create that as a credible threat by recruiting more conservatives to become precinct committeemen. Because then you can make a real impact on the prospects for those who run in the primary. That’s what I tried to do today at the Phoenix rally. I got one of the conservative legislators to make that argument from the podium and I handed out 1,000 flyers. And you can see my sign, which said,

WANT 2 REALLY
DO SOMETHING?
BECOME A REP. PARTY
PRECINCT
COMMITTEEMAN
Talk 2 Me

You can see it here on YouTube along with the other video I shot:

I’m going to try to embed the video (hope it works)

When I ran out of flyers, I talked to people one-on-one. Had some interesting “Civics 101 in five minutes or less” kind of conversations. I am hopeful I may have recruited at least a few of the conservatives in attendance to get involved. Here’s the text of my flyer:

ACTION BY DOING vs. INACTION BY TALKING

If you really want to change the country, start by becoming a Republican Party Precinct Committeeman! It’s the most powerful office in the world because Precinct Committeemen determine who gets the chance to be elected to office at every level of government. Is saving your country worth a few hours of your time each month? I thought so. Please read on for what to DO.

1. To change things, we must change the laws.
2. To change the laws, we must change the people who make the laws.
3. To get elected, your candidate must be on the ballot.
4. To get on the November ballot you must win the Primary.
5. To win the Primary, you must get the support of people who make endorsements in the Primary, who reliably vote in the Primary, and who get out the vote of others in the Primary. Those people are the Precinct Committeemen.

REAL CHANGE WILL NOT JUST HAPPEN

Most importantly, by becoming a Precinct Committeeman, YOU GET TO ACTUALLY VOTE FOR THE PARTY LEADERSHIP. YOU GET TO CAST A VOTE FOR YOUR LOCAL REPUBLICAN LEADERS UP TO THE COUNTY LEVEL, AND THEN GET TO ELECT ELECTORS WHO ELECT THE STATE AND NATIONAL PARTY LEADERS. If those who accept, understand and advocate conservative principles become a majority IN THE PARTY RANKS, guess what? The Party leadership voted in will be those who accept, understand and advocate conservative principles. THE WINNING PRINCIPLES THAT PRODUCED THE REAGAN LANDSLIDES. The Party again might appear to the voters to offer a clear choice from the Democrat Party, rather than an echo of it. HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN – YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU.

United we stand, divided we fall. The left wants us to leave the GOP. The left wants to divide us. The left wants a weak, moderate GOP. And many weak, splintered Third Parties to siphon away votes from the GOP. The left wants us to be divided because that way they will defeat us at the ballot box.

DO IT for the sake of your country: call the GOP and tell them you want to become a Precinct Committeeman:

In 2012, will YOU become a “voting member” of the Republican Party in your precinct?
