The nation’s franchise restaurants are about one month away from the imposition of new nutritional-labeling rules dreamed up by the Obama administration, another gift of the grievously misnamed Affordable Care Act. For outlets of brands with 20 or more locations, that means posting signs in the shop with calorie counts for every item on the menu and for every variation on that item.
Fareed Zakaria claimed that state-driven health care and insurance are more efficient than free market alternatives to the two industries’ statuses quo. A years-long advocate for government-directed central planning of health care and insurance, Zakaria asserted that standard laws and principles of economics are inapplicable to the two markets.
“You can’t be a sanctuary city and at the same time seem to pretend or express concern about law enforcement or ask for more money when probably a number of the funds that you’re using in the first place are going to law enforcement to handle the situation that you’ve created for yourself.”
I re-watched “Atlas Shrugged” and “Atlas Shrugged II” this weekend, as well as watching the third movie “Atlas Shrugged-Who is John Galt?” for the first time. I do not normally binge like that, but the interest was there, so why fight it, right? Surprisingly, even though I am a voracious reader, I have not read Rand’s book, so I ordered that, as well.
I am juiced! Every news site I look at, every blog that I scan, I do so through the “Atlas lens.” All I can see is “state this” and “government that”. I read about crime, healthcare, and the pizza gestapo, and I am expecting the Bureau of Economic Planning to establish the Unification Board. All I want to do is check out. I am thinking that selling hotdogs would be more enjoyable and rewarding than staying in the sausage grinder. I can understand why John Galt walked away.
Sooo…now that I have just TOTALLY killed everyone’s Monday afternoon buzz, it’s good to know that I am able to go home to all my wonderful dogs, with soft ears and bellies just waiting to be skritched, who only want me to make them the center of attention.
