was not taking out Iran right after Iraq.

The insurgents would not have had any support or traction.
We could have killed two birds with one huge stone.
As it was – we ended up fighting the Iranians in Iraq.

Imagine what the middle east would like like today without
the nutjobs in charge…..

No helping or help from North Korea.

Israel would not be building up it’s offense.

Hamas might be gone from Gaza…

They democratically elected a terrorist organization bent on the destruction of Israel (Hamas) to run their government.

So promoting “freedom” doesn’t have the desired effect, On the contrary, they take the opportunity to radicalize even further.

By supporting moderation, we in effect are saying that we will support Arab leaders who keep their population in check. They do this however, with violence, terror, and torture, thereby insuring that their victims blame us even more for supporting the people who are torturing and killing them. This causes greater and greater opposition to the “moderate” Arab government we are seeking to support and greater and greater anger against us.

So supporting “moderation” doesn’t have the desired effect either. It just puts a lid on the problem until it eventually blows up. Then we end up with a full fledged terrorist state.

Jehadism is a cancer. And as harsh as it may seem, the only treatment is surgical removal of the cancer. You can’t negotiate with cancer, you can’t reason with it, and you can’t massage it away. It will grow and grow and grow until it kills you. That’s what it does and that’s why it exists, to spread and kill everything that is not the cancer.

But, once the cancer has been removed, then you can let the patient have his freedom, but you must maintain constant vigilance against a relapse.

Impoverished, devoid of any sort of food supplies, but still capable and willing to blow themselves up if it means taking a few Israelis with them. It seems to me that something similar is very possible if the current regimes are weakened because of an inability to cash in on their oil. If the opposition was better than them, I wouldn’t care, but it’s not, so I’d rather work on moderating the current regimes and helping nascent freedom movements out than destabilizing their countries by having a trade embargo that doesn’t help either of the parties involved.

But without money, they would be mainly throwing stones at locals. I think terror groups would rapidly be overcome by their own need to feed themselves which is difficult in one of the most arid regions of the planet. Therefore, they would learn that in order to get food from the west, they would have to be on good terms with the west. This is the current situation with North Korea, but the difference there is that North Korea has an enormous army, and nuclear weapons. Hopefully we will stop the Middle East from going down the nuclear road.

caught off your own boat in salt water! Lots smarter to just buy them from the commercial guys or even at the store, but you just have to say, “I caught it.”

Even King Crab, back when we could actually take it for personal use, was many multiples cheaper at the store than off your boat when you added up all the gear and the boat expense. I had never had any crab gear because it is expensive and ugly; I’d just partner my permit with somebody who had gear and I’d be the deckhand. So, three years ago, I ran out of friends who’d let me do that and bought my own crab gear, better part of $3K, and set our legal four pots. Got zero crab in the three days that the season was open before they closed it because of the low yields and haven’t opened a winter or a summer personal use King Crab season since. Wanna buy some nice crabbing gear?
