John Cornyn Makes His Choice, And It’s A Bad One

You know, I generally like, and support Senator John Cornyn. He has been a great Senator, and was outstanding as Attorney General of Texas. So it pains me to have to write this entry.

In fact, as part of my continuing series on the time for choosing in the Republican party, I had something completely different planned for this spot.

But Senator Cornyn has made a choice that must be addressed.

Cornyn is the NRSC chair. A powerful position where he decides who the GOP will and won’t support as senatorial candidates. While I was happy to see him in this position, I must say I am completely disappointed in the results.

Senator Cornyn has announced that he will support Senator Arlen Spector in his bid for re-election over Pat Toomey in the Republican primary.

In a letter to Pennsylvania Republicans Cornyn said this:

“My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate,”

“I can’t do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference.”

The implications of his statement are pretty clear. If The folks in the Keystone State want a Republican in the Senate, they better stay on board with Specter.

One has to ask Senator Cornyn if that means, should Pat Toomey defeat Senator Specter in the primary, he can expect no support from the national party?

As I have discussed at length, the RINOs in our party are destroying it. Arlen Specter, along with John McCain, Susan Collins, and Olympia Snowe are a big problem. They rarely vote with the Republican party on serious issues.

Instead, they look to forge alliances that normally go against solid conservative principals, as well the general public’s wishes.

Remember, it was Specter, Collins, and Snowe who gave us the huge porkulus bill, or as it’s better known: The Generational Theft Act Of 2009. These three stood between a solid victory for the American people, and a huge defeat for Obama’s insane agenda, and passage of the bill. They stood with Obama, and against the people.

I am seriously doubting that the Republican party has a clue what it will take to return to greatness. They have forgotten that it was conservatism, true Ronald Reagan type conservatism, that made the GOP a national powerhouse!

Before Reagan, the GOP was a footnote. The democrats had a 40 year stranglehold on Congress. Reagan started a revolution that lasted until the Republicans lost their way, and drifted back towards moderatism and mediocrity. The country club blue bloods, the RINOs, have wrested control of the party from the conservatives, and have made the party irrelevant.

I for one, am not amused. The Republicans are all that stand between us, and a totalitarian communist government run by the democrats. I want the Republicans to be strong, to win, and to be the party of Ronald Reagan!

Ain’t gonna happen with people like Arlen Specter in the party.

If you agree, get in touch with Senator Cornyn. Be respectful, but make sure he understands that this is one of the biggest mistakes he has ever made. Cornyn is a good man, but even good men do the wrong things from time to time.

It is a time for choosing, and it seems we need to help Senator Cornyn make the proper choice. Not just for the party, but for America.

The message needs to be clear: support Arlen the RINO, and we’ll find someone to primary against YOU when it’s your turn.

No compromises.

I’ve had alot of respect for John Cornyn, but lately he’s done several things that have “I belong to the Beltway” written all over them.

About time to deliver him some Hope-n-Change.

Kill the Terrorists
Protect the Borders
Punch the Hippies h/t IMAO

Cornyn nearly wet himself when Obama went to the immigration reform card.

Per Houston Chron.

“I applaud President Obama’s commitment to addressing comprehensive immigration reform this year, and stand ready to work with him to produce a product that represents the best interests of America, including respect for the rule of law, national security and economic security.

“Comprehensive, common-sense immigration reform remains a top priority for me. Any legislation must protect our borders, promote economic prosperity in Texas and throughout the United States, and be consistent with our American values of compassion, family and opportunity.”

Coburn is another. And there are a few others.

But when you’re talking, say, 90% of the caucus, I don’t think “rounding up” to 100% is out of line… ;)

The NRSC has always supported Republican Incumbents just like NRCC has

I wish both played a more active role in endorsing candidates as the Dems have

the PA senate seat is Specter. Toomey will have a very uphill battle.(so everybody complaining should send money to him!)

I am a PA voter, and am leaning toward supporting Toomey. Certainly I have more issues in common with him and am tired of Specter. On the other hand, I would hate to hand this senate seat to a younger Democrat who in all likelihood could keep it for a few decades and become another Ted Kennedy or Chris Dodd.

Because of his age and health, this would probably be Specter’s final term, and the environment might be more friendly for Republicans when the seat comes up again. On the other hand, having just won reelection and not having to worry about primary challenges anymore, Specter would be more likely to side with Dems on important issues.

What does it matter if we lose the seat

exactly, the seat is Democrat-lite already

So what is the difference between leaving a pro-Choice left of center Republican in the spot, and putting a pro-Choice left of center Democrat in? Neither one votes for anything conservative, and the way it is now fools people into thinking the Republicans are more powerful than they are, so they don’t vote to provide balance. And if they knew the Republicans were seriously outnumbered they would vote to balance things.

There is a big difference. We have to choose putting up with Specter for six more years, at which time we may have a better shot at taking the seat, or risk the real possibility that we will elect a Democrat who will hold the seat for 6, 12, 18, or 24 or more years. I’d take Toomey over Specter anyday, but realistically that will probably be the result of booting Specter.

Term Limits

This is why we need to DEMAND term limits!

When will these so called conservatives get the

message! They campaign as conservatives to get our votes, then betray us when they get elected. Then they have the audacity to ignore our anger, and expect our support again. And you know why they do-because of stupid conservatives who think that having a miserable excuse for a Republican like Specter in the Senate is better than a liberal Democrat who will wind up voting almost the same way on every critical issue we face.Only when conservative voters hold their elected officials hostage in regard to future support will these unprincipled party hacks either stop lying to us or stop running. All the mealy-mouthed pragmatists, the Plus-size Tentists, and GOP firsters-you are all responsible for John Cornyn, and every other pseudo-conservative party hack in the GOP.And I don’t want to hear this crap about agreeing 80% of the time. When that 20% is on big ticket issues that determine the future of the GOP or even more important the nation, that 80% doesn’t seem like much collateralto me.And by the way-you moderates that like to quote Reagan on this 80% BS-he also said that you can’t grow a party by being all things to everybody.A political party has to have certain fundamental principles that must not be compromised!

Conservatives-keep on giving these traitors the idea they have you in their pockets and we are doomed.I would rather join a national Conservative Party than to continue letting these people use and betray me.Enough is enough!

Whew! How is that for a just getting back from an exciting TeaParty protest rant!

This is why I am writing this series of open letters to the GOP!

It’s time for them to either become the party of Reagan, or die off and see a new party of Reagan emerge!

I have been looking for a state election to get involved in and this one looks to a great opportunity. We cannot keep electing politicians because it makes political sense or blah blah blah. All politicians suck, I will bust my butt for toomey but if he is elected I will hold his feet to the fire and call his office to voice any discontent.

these people are our employees not our rulers. Unfortunately pol’s of both sides have come to view us as subjects not citizens and it needs to stop.
