moot point now, but... directly to your Diary title... an out of the box thought...

With a Republican President we could have, and under Bush should have, mobilized a Secret Special Forces (not in the sense you may be thinking off hand) with recruitment throughout the Oil Industry ranks, equipment/materials (quietly, secretly - to the degree that's possible - could've done it overseas in Iraq under the guise of/for use in the Middle East then brought them and all materials back here), etc... for use in ANWAR and/or anywhere else for RAPID DEPLOYMENT and IMMEDIATE DRILLING under the ROLE OF COMMANDER IN CHIEF and use of ARMED FORCES in the NAME OF NATIONAL SECURITY and got our da... darn... Resources started out of the Ground.

Of course it would be challenged, but let the Liberals challenge it all they like as we drag it out all the way to the SCOTUS. In the meantime, drilling our little hind-sides off. Building a bigger Military reserve and selling the rest off to US Oil companies.

I know that will sound a tad too close to a National owned/run Oil company to many. I think that when you think about how/why I would look to put those "officially" Military Personnel to work you might reconsider. Once those FEDERAL LANDS were in use by the Military to produce Oil, it would be difficult for the Democrats to just shut them back off again. My thoughts, would be they'd shut it down under the Secret (of course, wouldn't stay secret long) Military Operations, but hope that Public support would then say it's been opened to drilling so hand it over to the US Oil companies to continue "legally." Legally, of course, as the Military way would be deemed "Illegal" by Dems.
