I acknowledged Jackson’s sins (though he actually did save the Cherokee from genocide at the hands of Georgians and opposed the Bank for good conservative reasons) but he also accomplised a lot of great things.

I don’t pay homage to people who can sweet-talk America, I pay tribute to people who can lead America. This is why I am a conservative, and this is why I don’t necessarily respect Jackson as a leader. He might be able to talk nice, but, with Jackson’s own record as president as evidence, that doesn’t necessarily mean he was a great Commander-in-Chief.

Think about it this way: do you revere Barack Obama because he can give a “soaring oratory”?

I respect people like Ronald Reagan, who gave nothing but straight talk, without mixing in sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I recall a quote from Reagan, though I can’t find it on Google now, from his speech about the economics report. Right from the beginning, he told Americans that they were going to hate what he had to say. But he admitted that he didn’t like it one bit, either.

You expect Bush, Jindal and every other well-known conservative to be supermen who can lift the world on their own shoulders, which they can, but not without the support of their party and their people. It doesn’t help to stand around pointing fingers, sneering, and making wild observations. We get enough of that from the left.

Do the world a favor: stop pointing out of all the problems and start suggesting solutions.

I hope John McCain carpet bombs the bastards. He seems to be off to a reasonable start by refusing to let Obama skate on his blank resume.

As for the idea that a piece like this diary will change one mind about how the evil Republicans destroyed NO because they hate blacks and the poor, you’ve got to be well into a bottle of Wild Turkey to buy that one. That is now a “known fact”, accepted by all, including our current sitting President and our Republican nominee.

Hopefully Bobby Jindal will acquit himself in the manner we’ve come to expect and we can get beyond Katrina. But we won’t be getting “over” it any time soon.
