Except that you can't generalize from this race

Of course. The thing that stands out
redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 4:05PM EST (link)is that the establishment tried to go middle of the road to be more like the democrats and got their “clock cleaned” as Erick put it. The principles are what knocked out the party nominee. That is what I meant. Party labels were irrelevant, as there were 2 democrats and 1 conservative republican in the race. Principles are what people believe in, not a party label.
OK, but IMO there IS a parallel lession wrt Rubio/Crist
E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Saturday, October 31st at 4:26PM EST (link)This is STILL a conservative base win over the party establishment.
The party has been stubborn to the point of obstinate in clinging to the notion that somehow we have to continually offer up compromise candidates, or we can’t win elections.
The same motivation is driving the NRSC and Crist, against Rubio. And like the Sco-fa endorsement by NRCC it is (a) misguided, (b) factually wrong, and (c) gutless.
I look forward to the days when Rubio polls in primary polls even or ahead of Crist, so I can send hate grams to Cornyn every day.
This is a victory for all that is good and right. For gosh sakes, just let people celebrate.

We are free people and will continue to be. If that means that we have to fight the NRCC and NRSC and the RNC and the GOP every step of the way to get the candidates to support that will return this country to what it should be, then we will.
And EPU, how sweet is it to be able to say what we’re saying on Senator Fred Dalton Thompson’s own blog entry? Thank, Sen. Thompson, for standing up and helping to lead the way! And that goes for your lovely wife as well.
I'll celebrate with Fred and Jeri any day of the week. nt

RNC did NOT endorse the conservative
livingfortruth Sunday, November 1st at 12:31AM EST (link)Principle above party? The RNC endorsed the most liberal of the three and through the conservative under the bus. They changed their tune only when the CONSERVATIVE PARTY (AKA Constitution Party of NY) started his rise to stardom when PALIN (whom the RNC thru under the bus when McCain started losing, blaming her for his loss.) endorsed HOFFMAN. When his numbers started shooting up in the polls, the RNC’s pick, PAWLENTY (who thru another moderate Republican Coleman under the bus instead of sending investigators in to those districts where there were more votes than voters to put people in jail who stole the election.)
No, Hoffman is a CONSERVATIVE PARTY candidate. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, “I did not leave the republican party, the republican party thru me under the bus.” The faster people like Rush and Hannity wake up to the fact that they will never accept conservatism as a whole, the better off conservatives will be. Rush has been towing this line for 16 years, and we haven’t changed the republican leadership yet. Time to cut that arm with gangrene off!

Promoting Dem-lites, phony conservatives or professed “moderates” won’t cut it anymore. At least, not for me. AND I DON’T WANT TO EVEN HEAR THE WORD BI-PARTISANSHIP ANY MORE! (Sorry for yelling.) Could someone explain to me what we have ever gained by “reaching across the aisle?” Even if the libs pretend to do so, eventually they slip into another room and close the door.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/1009/BREAKING_Scozzafava_drops_out_of_NY_23.html
An excerpt:
“The announcement comes after a Siena College poll found she was in third place with 20 percent of the vote in the heavily Republican district that has been safe ground for the party for more than 100 years. Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman and Democratic nominee Bill Owens were too close to call with 35 percent and 36 percent, respectively.
The race has pitted conservative and moderate wings of the Republican Party against each other in a battle of ideology. The special election in New York’s rural north has received national attention as big-name Republicans including Sarah Palin, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson have thrown their support behind Hoffman. Money poured into Hoffman’s campaign from all over the country.
“In today’s political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money — and as I’ve been outspent on both sides, I’ve been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record,” Scozzafava said.
Some have called the race a test of the GOP’s future: whether traditional conservative ideology would lead the way forward or if a more inclusive approach would draw more people back to the party. Hoffman and his backers said Scozzafava was too liberal to truly represent the Republican party, specifically noting her support of abortion rights and same-sex marriage.”

principles
misterbill Saturday, October 31st at 4:25PM EST (link)I weakly submitted to my fellow conservative bloggers and voted for the lesser of the two liberals in the last election. I heard many time that a vote for principles would wind up being a vote for the Democrats.
It appears to me, and I pray fervently, that a number of Americans are waking up and realizing that a vote for the principles of the republic is the way to vote. Party means nothing when the candidates platforms are so much alike.
I resigned from the Republican party membership after the last election. I will, never again , vote for anyone except the best candidate. The candidate who swears to uphold the Constitution and will challenge its misinterpretations by a judiciary that fancies itself as the legislative branch of our country.
If my candidates should not win, I still will win. I will be able to put my head down on my pillow each night knowing that I did what was right for my country.

Among many beliefs, I hold that Islam is a political ideology as well as a religion and has not place in American life. I do not feel that way about other religions. (Look at Dearborn, among other cities.)
I have promoted myself to an officer in my own army of one. This releases me from my oath when I was an enlisted man and I no longer have to follow the orders of the President. I may rescind that after the next presidential election.
God bless America.
Can't get much more to the point than that. Thank you, Sen. Thompson. (nt)
