“Arizona Police are Racist Pigs!” say Obama Administration and Democrat echo chamber

The headline may not be a direct quote, but it captures their message very nicely.

If you consider the wording of the law resulting from AZ SB1070, with or without its clarifying amendments, and then consider what President Obama, Attorney General Holder and Secretary Napolitano have said about it, no other message can possibly be intended.

Federal law is much less fettered than is this Arizona law.  Federal agents can stop anybody for the express purpose of “checking their papers.”  AZ 1070 does not allow that; Arizona police must first have made contact in the enforcement of a different law before asking for proof of legal presence.  Federal agents need not have any reason for their request for ID at all, beyond their own “WeSaySo.”  That is, Federal agents need not meet any burden of having a “reasonable suspicion or belief” that they are dealing with illegal aliens before asking for ID.  AZ 1070 requires that the officer must have such a suspicion before even asking for proof of legal presence.  And finally, Federal law requires a legal foreign resident to carry his green card at all times.  The Arizona law specifies that if the person in question has an Arizona driver’s license, that is sufficient and no more documentation may be legally sought.

Yet with all that, the President, the AG, and the Secretary of Homeland Security have all condemned the Arizona law without reading it, saying that it “has the potential” to result in racial profiling, and the Democrats in the US Congress gave Mexican President Calderon a standing ovation for even worse remarks.  At one point he claimed the law “institutes the terrible idea that racial profiling is the basis for law (garbled).”

Following that lead, commentator Kirsten Powers on Fox News Sunday asserted that, “Lawful contact can be anything….  Police can find a lot of different ways to [make a lawful stop]….  They could use that as an opportunity to say, ‘Oh, look, here’s a bunch of Hispanic people standing there, I’m going to find a reason to go up to them….’”  When Brit Hume interrupted her to point out that the law specifically prohibits that action, she went on to say, “They [police] would not say that to the judge, they would say that ‘They were doing something that I thought was suspicious,’” and her example was that the person being questioned walked away after being spoken to.

When Brit pointed out that Federal law has none of the safeguards of the Arizona law, she brushed that aside with the airhead comment that “I haven’t really heard of that [stops by Federal agents for immigration checks] being an issue.”

What can be inferred from the public statements and the above exchange?  See the headline.  After all, there is no uproar about the more draconian Federal law which AZ 1070 emulates.  There is no outcry that Federal agents “might” use racial profiling to arrest an illegal alien.  There seems to be no fear that ICE agents will lie to the judge to make an arrest stick.  There isn’t even any comment about the similar California law that’s been on the books, ignored, for years.  It’s only Arizona police who will do these things, who will circumvent the law as written and perjure themselves in court, at least so say the Democrats.  Logically, they must think that Arizona police are racist pigs.

Make no mistake, those things do happen, but they happen all over the country, on rare occasions, and the officers committing those offenses are not restricted to local and state agencies, and certainly not restricted to Arizona.  A Federal officer can offend as easily as anyone else.

Eliminating the ditz factor, we must ask ourselves Why are our senior officials saying these things while claiming to have “not read” the Arizona law?

First, if they haven’t read it they can always claim to have been misinformed when the time to face reality is convenient.  Second, by making a big fuss about Arizona, they have postponed the day of reckoning, the day that they have to actually face up to the problem of our wide open borders.  They are continuing to Blame America First while they do nothing to solve the real problem.

In other words, they are trying to distract our attention from the situation that the Arizona law was passed to address–the citizens of Arizona are not safe, because of illegal aliens in the form of drug cartels who cross into the USA daily with impunity.  The law itself will actually change very little, but the rabid opposition to it tells us a lot about those who oppose it.  They’re more interested in promoting their own agenda than in enforcing federal law or in protecting citizens from criminals. Thus, they often include a call for “comprehensive” immigration reform, ignoring the fact that this law is not an immigration law but a statute that mandates enforcement of existing federal and state law.

The attacks on Arizona by the administration are personalized and polarizing.  Imagine that, Saul Alinsky.  They change the dialogue from “search for a solution” to “who should we condemn.”  They change the issue from “protection for American citizens and both legal and illegal residents” to “fear of state and local law enforcement agencies.”  If the President had not taken this approach, he would have been forced to either agree with Arizona and address the open border issue or be left with even the lamestream media asking him why he wasn’t doing so.  For him, that question is unanswerable because the reason is political and he can’t admit that everything he does has a political reason behind it.  And he can’t address the border issue directly as it should be addressed because his base supporters wouldn’t stand for it.

Quite like Obama saying the Cambridge Police....

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Tuesday, May 25th at 5:26AM EST (link)

were out of control what the Democrats and the CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER plus his boss are saying is EXACTLY that these Police Officers cannot do their jobs without being RACISTS!

This Administration is a JOKE, lets continue to treat it as such!

"This Administration is a JOKE"?

JadedByPolitics, I find it hard to see the humor in a joke with the punch line being, “You are sooo screwed!” For all the ineptness displayed by the pretender-in-chief and his klown posse, you have to admit the competence and dedication displayed by them in destroying our Republic.

Ahh but len_kc this JOKE....

is going to be on liberalism for many decades to come. If you think about how they had made all these inroads and attempted to take US down from within however ALL EYES are on them now and Americans are REJECTING them! The punch line will be “sooo long suckers”….LOL!

that the longer the Won delays securing the border, the more potentially grateful line jumpers will be here when/if comprehensive reform (amnesty) is passed.

there were anything substantive about it. As it is, the only people who truly believe what they’re saying are the ditzes, like Powers, who aren’t capable of analyzing the implications of their own words, let alone of analyzing something as “complex” as the illegal immigration problem.

I quote “complex” because it really isn’t. It’s simple, just as is the BP oil leak. “Just plug the damn hole” as the Won said, then do something with what has invaded the land, i.e., clean up the mess while we prevent future leaks. In fact the oil leak is the more difficult problem in that respect, because we can’t guarantee “no future leaks.” With the right approach, we can guarantee a secure border.

We now know that the Won has launched a Public Relations campaign

to convince us that He CARES about the porous border in Arizona. He’s going to spend oodles of money (borrowed, of course), and deploy UP TO 1200 National Guard troops in Arizona (not necessarily at the border).

There is no word that ANY of the money will be spent to “finish the dang fence,” and finishing the dang fence, all along the southern border of the US, is the only thing that will convince anybody that the inevitable Obama amnesty law can be acceptable. As Charles Krauthammer said today, the Guard are “going to go, they’re going to come back, won’t make any difference. A fence remains. A fence works.” I would say the Guard will help while the fence is being built, but if it isn’t going to be built, what happens when they leave? And I don’t believe the Presidential email mentioned the fence.

As with All Things Obama™, it’s a smokescreen intended to hide what’s going on behind it, or it’s a sop to a voting bloc that he wants to placate.

that the troops will not all be stationed in Arizona, and that they won’t be at the border, either.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

The issues raised in this video

are never mentioned during the many repetitive border security debates. You listen to them and you would think that only Mexican laborers are getting across the border.

I wonder how long the middle-eastern illegals stay in AZ. My guess is they disperse throughout the country pretty fast.

I can only imagine the confusion in the minds of citizens of states other than Arizona.

they seem to believe our problems don’t translate to their states. The fact is, even the most benign of illegal interlopers hurts our country. The really deadly ones (outside of drug smugglers) are probably less of a problem for AZ than for the rest of the states.

I bet this goes over just peachy....... Califailure: East Bay inmates prints to ICE........ It gets better too.

Kenny Solomon (Diary) Tuesday, May 25th at 10:32PM EST (link)

More than 5,300 fingerprints from East Bay inmates have been sent to immigration agents since early April, identifying nearly 90 noncitizen immigrants with some kind of criminal record, 16 of whom have been deported. The program also began in San Mateo County this week and in Solano and Sonoma counties this year.

Like I said above, it gets better.

Here’s the better (emphasis mine):

— — — —

Only in San Francisco, where the information-sharing program is set to roll out June 1, have local officials asked not to participate in the federal partnership, saying it will erode their relationships with immigrant communities. State Attorney General Jerry Brown denied that request Tuesday, arguing in a letter that the program “serves both public safety and the interest of justice.”

By someone already guilty of another crime is to be defended?

So if you are here illegally (crime) and you are arrested and booked for doing something else illegal (crime), the two time criminal is not supposed to be punished – ie deported due to crime 1?

The depth of liberal insanity continues to baffle me.

When 1070 was passed, it was interesting to see the various default templates people turned to.

Even some conservatives. And one of the first was “cops are pigs.”
(Flag’s my 2nd favorite place in AZ, Prescott 1st, BTW). When I first came out there in the 70s, it was still filled with old east-midwest hippies with that term firmly etched on the tips of their tongues. My brother’s in Sedona, and still uses it like a 17 year old. (He’s 60).

Now that the dust has settled, and legal minds (outside Washington) are actually reading it, most conclude that any “constitutional” issue will turn on turf (AZ entering an area belonging exclusively to the US) and not the more publicized issues of civil rights and profiling. Those same legal minds seem to agree that any violations by over-exuberant local police will not invalidate the law itself.

The rest is demagoguery.

The real bottom line, Vassar

mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, May 27th at 9:24AM EST (link)

can be found here.

And basically, the “stop and ID” part of 1070 is – operationally on the street – no different that cops have been doing in AZ for years. Short form: it’s a misdemeanor to not have a valid, state issued, photo ID on your person at all times. A cop can, and has been able to for many years, arrest you if you don’t have one. Generally speaking, “probably cause” isn’t required to ask for one, you could simply be incident to a traffic stop (sitting in the car driven by someone else). If arrested, you will be run through ICE after booking in every County Jail in AZ. Come up illegal, you’re gone.

SB1070 doesn’t change, nor does it add to, what’s been happening for years out on the street. The only possible change would be the right of individual citizens to sue a jurisdiction if they think the law – 1070 – isn’t being enforced.

My take is that the biggest change is

Flagstaff (Diary) Friday, May 28th at 1:38AM EST (link)

that AZ sanctuary cities are outlawed by the state. Whatever else that does, it might make a sanctuary city like Tucson, perhaps, liable for some financial punishment in the event it protects an illegal who later harms someone.

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. Becker - the other bottom line that get many in an uproar

azred (Diary) Friday, May 28th at 3:09PM EST (link)

is the “except where allowed by the US Constitution or the AZ Constitution” . They argue it does ALLOW racial profiling because the constitutions allow racial profiling in some cases.

So their more accurate argument should be against the constitutions, not the SB 1070. And obviously that opens up a whole different can of worms. And that would also not give them the political weight to demonize the authors of the law.

Vassar, those hippies are still here.

Flagstaff (Diary) Friday, May 28th at 1:45AM EST (link)

They’re now on the city council and the school board.

The council voted last week to sue the state (or was it “petition”?) over SB 1070. This is a city which cries poormouth and wants more taxes at the drop of a hat, yet they want to throw money away on a suit against the state.

Tucson has done the same.

Not all of them are

aesthete (Diary) Friday, May 28th at 4:04PM EST (link)

and most of them are decent folks who are working the daily grind. That said, the nature of the job does attract a disproportionate number of persons who do like to flaunt and abuse their authority. I’m a pretty respectful and mild-mannered guy, and I rarely dress or act in a way that would arouse suspicion (usually business casuals for me), but even so, I’ve been in some bizarre altercations with the police where I’ve done nothing wrong, but the officer in question keeps trying to find things to pin on me. My mother, who has a thick accent, has also been involved in some weird altercations in Maricopa County with Arpaio’s merry band of thugs in uniform. Anecdotal incidents, the “blue wall of silence”, and the inherent problems with government employees in general, make me reticent to implicitly believe that cops are altruistically looking out for us. Don’t know why, but in my experience, you tend to get the “cops are pigs” line from conservatives more in the West than in the South, Rust Belt, or the East Coast.

An attitude with cops is the least of Sedona’s… eccentricity. Last time I went there, I was told by one of the co-op owners that my hand wrinkles meant that I had a great destiny as a peacemaker ahead of me. Weird place, Sedona, as I’m sure your brother could attest to.

Real Liberty!

romatrast Monday, May 31st at 8:24PM EST (link)

Good article! Rather than “hiding their inadequacies,” it seems to me that our federal government is hiding their agenda in plain sight; namely that enforcement of “archaic” national borders is to be ignored so that poor people can go wherever they like in search of betterment, by way of their own hard work or, in the case of the USA, by way of support financed by the 50% of our population that pays taxes. Now that’s Real Liberty! Unless you happen to be among the tax-paying 50%. Then, like so many other Utopian “solutions,” it’s a recipe for disaster; and it will be a disaster for all of us US citizens except for those who already have very significant wealth salted away somewhere.

Needless to say, rich people have always been able to go wherever they liked.
