The Super Bowl is set: the 5-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the first-Super-Bowl-ever Arizona Cardinals. These are two of the league’s oldest teams; the Arizona Cardinals were a charter member of the NFL back in 1920, while the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of three teams to join the AFC when the NFL merged with the much newer AFL.
Personally, while it’s great for me to have the Steelers in the Super Bowl (since I’ve been a fan since their title runs back in the 1970s), it means that I’ll actually have to pay attention to the game this year; I’d been successfully ignoring it in years past, save for when the Steelers won it last time, heh.

NightTwister (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 8:04PM EST (link)NFC West is due for a win. Cardinals are definitely due.

The last time
Darin_H (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 1:45AM EST (link)the Steelers played in the Super Bowl, they got an assist from the Refs in beating an NFC West team…. I still how a QB making a tackle on an interception is flaaged for a “low block”

My NFL shiver up my leg and other wierd things
Wubbies World (Diary) Monday, January 19th at 8:06PM EST (link)I was really impressed by Baltimore against the Steelers. I know the Steelers beat them, but what I saw in Baltimore was a young rookie quarterback who is going to have a bight future. I do believe Baltimore will be back again.
I was glad to see the Arizona Cardinals win. I will be rooting for them in the Super Bowl. I think an old quarterback who use to stock grocery shelves going back to the Super Bowl is so cool.
Now for that shiver up my leg. The New England Patriots will get two first round draft picks in a trade for Matt Cassell. The really scary part is that they have two more quarterbacks behind Tom Brady who have the makings of being even better than Matt Cassell!
It is no wonder that the New England Patriots coaching staff gets raided every year. However, without Bil Belichek it doesn’t seem to translate into success with the other teams. They keep trying to clone Bill, but no success yet. I think Kansas City with the grab of Scott Pioli is probably going to do better than most.

Baltimore is frightening
Finrod (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 7:48PM EST (link)They’re going to be a handful for the Steelers to cope with for a while. You heard it here first: next year’s AFC champion will be one of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New England or Indianapolis.
Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?
I don't care who wins......... Ain't got a horse in the race since "my" Dolphins got whacked.

Considering I don’t drink much at all, the open bar doesn’t matter either.
$50 per person, full buffet, fully open top-shelf bar included. Been going to our regular hangout since it opened and the SB party is semi-private for “the regulars”, but open to the public if there are tables left (bar seats are long-gone already).
Y’all want to c’mon down, let me know….. About 20 minutes West and South of Ft. Lauderdale, in the beautiful city of Pembroke Pines, Florid-duh at a great pub with fantastic people and about 35 big screens.
Cheers !
Times are hard. Go Steelers.
Chemical Sam (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 10:38AM EST (link)A superbowl win for the Steelers is a win for the hard-working people of the Rust Belt, as it was when I was living in Pittsburgh in the 70′s. Nothing was going right back then for the area, seemingly doomed to perpetual decline. I put it to you all that the four Superbowl wins that the Steelers earned that decade was the catalyst for real “hope and change” that they needed. Pray they start winning again.
You’d be surprised how many people wear Steelers gear around here. I get people stopping me in the street all the time just to compliment me for the wooly cap I wear in this weather. And I never get any trouble or jeers from detractors. The Steelers just don’t seem to attract that kind of antipathy.
Steelers fans are everywhere between NYC and Pittsburgh, right though Philly, and yes, even in Baltimore where they are very proud of their new Ravens. Heck, even Detroit could use the blue-collar boost. The phenomenon probably stops cold in Cleveland though; the long rivalry in the old AFC Central runs too deep.

Steelers fans are everywhere
Finrod (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 7:43PM EST (link)Heck, I’ve seen more places in suburban Atlanta that call themselves Steeler fan places than Atlanta Falcons fan places. The Dallas Cowboys may call themselves America’s Team, but we know it’s a Steeler Nation.

Packers will be back next year, watch out for Dom Capers' defense!

D'oh, can't believe I made that mistake
Finrod (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 10:59AM EST (link)Obviously the upcoming Super Bowl is Super Bowl 43, not 48, like I mistyped in the subject line. And for whatever reason, it won’t give me an edit button so I can change it. Grr.

Heh, not really a fan of the Superbowl teams...
dbecraft Tuesday, January 20th at 8:25PM EST (link)but, would not mind a team that has not ever played in a Superbowl actually wins the event. Hey, everybody should have a share of that glory…

Larry Fitzgerald
mobius2702 (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 9:06PM EST (link)Arizona is a fun team to watch with a potent offense and risk-taking defense. Larry Fitzgerald is ridiculous, but stays (for now) classy. (And he was a key cog on my fantasy championship teams in 2006 and 2007. Sadly, I missed on getting him this year, but had a silly running back squad to win my 3rd in a row). And they benched Anqwaaaaaahn Boldin down the stretch in the championship game, which garnered much respect from me. (You know, if you have the sound “wah” in your name, you should never be caught whining. It’s too easy).
Pittsburgh is a great team, and I have always been a fan of theirs, and if it were anyone else from the NFC this year (except the Packers), I’d root for the Steelers, no questions.
But there is just something about the Cardinals this year I really like. James started crying about his playing time, and was benched. Then he came back to have a respectable playoff run. Larry Fitzgerald is one of two superstar WRs who don’t annoy me (Andre Johnson being the other). Adrian Wilson has been there 8 years, and I don’t recall hearing a peep out of him about getting traded to a “contender” or some other nonsense. They brought Kurt Warner in to mentor Leinart, he took the starting role, and I don’t hear about any drama from that. They acknowledged that they quit during the second half of the season, and they turned it around in a big way. They just seem to be a classy organization this year.
*sigh* two classy organizations going for a title. I won’t mind if Pittsburgh wins, but a little part of me wants to see the Cardinals win.
(It’s the exact opposite of last year’s election. Hey, this *is* a political blog, after all).
Then next year, it’s back to Go Pack!
