Do you remember ?……. Twenty Years Ago, Lithuania Was The First Charge Lit Off In The Iron Curtain’s Rusty Implosion.

Today, Lithuania Celebrates And Remembers.

http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-world/lithuania-commemorates-split-that-doomed-soviet-union-20100312-q1y3.html

Soviet-era dissident leader Vytautas Landsbergis — post-communist Lithuania’s first president — received a standing ovation.

“Many considered them just day-dreamers, but their numbers swelled,” said Landsbergis, 77, of those who joined his Sajudis freedom movement founded in 1988.

“After 50 years of violent oppression, Lithuania was pursuing its dream,” he said.

===============

I remember.

I remember the fear I had, as the Communists were capable of literally anything, up to and including killing everyone in Lithuania ‘just to make a point’…… and the world might have been set on fire for that.

I remember the visible and inner joy the people of Lithuania showed, knowing they took on The Bear and won their nation back.

I remember America the next morning, saying a big ‘howdy ho’ to her newly liberated Eastern European neighbor and offering the hand of friendship and support.

I remember about a week or so later seeing photos of newly-made Lithuanian flags on every grave at many a cemetery ; Relatives, friends and total strangers, standing and on their knees in tears of honor, pride and yes, sadness for what could have been, but for evil set loose on their homeland.

Today, I ‘hope’ for the chance to remember even a slight acknowledgment of that incredible ‘change’ in freedom’s history from the current President Of The United States, his Secretary Of State and the American media.

Sadly, I am aware that any official acknowledgment from America will be sent on the wings of a rainbow-colored Unicorn resting on a prayer mat made of pixie dust.

and I would love to be able to understand your diary. The problem I have personally with this diary, is, you seem mostly to talk in some kind of code speak. I respectfully request that you talk in language that I understand. My own personal opinion, you would get alot more attention if you talked in everyday language.

PS- What the heck is the first Charge Lit Off?

I would be willing to say that many would not have a clue what a “Charge Lit Off” is.

A buiding implosion - explosive charges get set off.

Sorry if you think it’s any kind of code, or I’m in bizarro-land.

It’s not and I’m not.

My mom’s family are from Eastern Europe. Jews. Many never saw sort of freedom. That I’m here is …….. well, the dissolving of The Soviet union is VERY emotional to me and I stupidly tried to paint a picture as if everyone would understand.

Lithuania was the first nation in the USSR to declare it’s independence.

As far as what I ended with……. I’ll be absolutely shocked if our President and Sec. State care about, let alone know about or say anything regarding this.

Sometimes I shouldn’t post things. I guess this was one of those times.

Kenny, you diary was fine.

Non-linear posts seem to be more of a generational thing; that might be why Scope was so lost.

Thank you Kenny

I agree Obama and company will never acknowledge this important historical time. I’m sure that this period is being removed, or distorted in the World History textbooks. He is too busy throwing our eastern european allies under the bus. He cannot side with the people who are fighting for their freedom in any country, as, he hopes to be a better and stronger dictator than those that are experiencing push back now. Any event, such as the independence of Lithuania from the soviets, does not fit into his ultimate game plan.

Acknowledge it?

An event in which people lost the many benefits of society under authoritarian rule?

Only if there are missile shield systems (that can be ceremonially dismantled) and/or strategic lands (under siege from terrorists) and/or valuable oil pipelines that can be ceded (to our/their enemies) in Lithuania.

Kenny, your blogs are great

But you really have to quit the arbitrary mixture of bold, italics, and colors. Its killing me! I think you are doing it to quote from the article?? If so, use block quotes! They make more sense.

Nice reminder.

Given we didn’t have a “de-communization” that was the equivalent of the successful “de-Nazification,” it is a necessary reminder as well. I wish more murderers had been put into the dock so people wouldn’t be as prone to forget, or, in some particularly nasty cases, deny. The folks in Vilnius won’t need a reminder and my prayers are with them and those murdered in the name of ideology.

Kenny, it has been too easy for people to forget....

The reminders that come will be framed in “how could we have forgotten so soon?” The history books get rewritten…..Even now the Holocaust is being minimized by those that seek to pretend that nothing was as bad as it was. They do this for their own ugly purposes; their own agenda.
