Here’s the skinny from a friend who lives there………

“Since this came out a few days ago, gunowners here have naturally been going nuts.  The thing is, I think they are going about it the wrong way.  They are calling, writing, and emailing the newspaper.

The newspaper doesn’t care what they think.

They are a liberal paper in a liberal town that is the home of liberal Indiana University.  You step outside the city limits and it’s as conservative as can be for 50 miles in every direction, but that doesn’t matter to them.  They are safe and sound in their little liberal kingdom.  They even hosted an online Q&A session over this topic so they could say live that they didn’t care what we thought.

The effort should be directed at our state legislators.     Every email and phone call to the paper would be better used going to the state reps and senators asking for legislation blocking access to that permit holder data.

So I’m asking you guys to either make sure that’s already the case in your state, or try to make it that way.

Here in Indiana, the State Police issue the carry permits, so they are the source for the info.  So if you don’t know the law on this, I would start by checking with your issuing agency to see if they can give it out.”

====================

My opinion ?

Biting, snarky realism and projected-image time…. for making a point or two………..
I can add a few very inciting and highly damming comments to this space, but instead, I’m just sitting here wondering how many people on staff at The Bloomington Herald-Times see their names and addresses on that list…….. and what their employer will do to them when realized.

Imagine the ex-spouse of someone on that list – male or female – and the real threat they now stare straight in the eye and fear in their gut because the relationship ended badly and may still be simmering.

….and of course, what about protecting the children from all those big scary-looking other guns that every single one of the Concealed Carry-holders have……. I mean, after all…… Every single one of those purely evil people live in houses full of guns with rooms full of ammunition……… Plus we all know the Concealed Carry people are complete and total raaaaaaaaaaacists.

I’m of the mind that if I was living there and somehow they forgot my name on the list, I’d call up and demand all my info be put there……. “just because”.

Hmmmmmmm If I call up The Indiana State Police would they give me a list of all their undercover people, complete with addresses and maybe even photos ?

=====================

OK, serious time……. HAS ANYBODY AT THAT NEWSPAPER EVER HEARD OF THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY FOR INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS ABIDING BY THE LAW AND MINDING THEIR OWN BUSINESS ?!?

I know my state’s deal already (Florida), but I’m not going to put it here…… Please do your own research and learn what is going on around you.   Along with that, check into your county’s regulations and definitely your local laws.

with those people or rob their homes. It will not be long before my name will be made public in VA… Oh wait, just let them come and try to rob my house now, I can just shoot first ask questions later, I will say, “heh, you should have checked the internet before coming to my home because you would have known that I am armed (well) and so’s the wife. Sorry pal no warnings, castle law in effect.”

Anyway, I would be a little worried if I worked for that newspaper, now they have to deal with the people that can conceal carry. Yikes.

Exactly what I was thinking

All thieves need is a copy of that article and they can drive to the neighborhoods with no guns without fear of getting shot. How much do you want to bet there is a rise in crime in certain areas but not others?

And another piece of the Constitution is flushed. Unbelievable!

Then stop concealing...

One of the best defensive riding tools used on a motorcycle in my youth was having a 12-gauge pump with a pistol grip and 19 in. barrel strapped on my back (it was legal back then)…Never had a problem with cars getting to close, trying to run me off the road, or being obnoxious.

But that was then…

Still legal most civilized places. 18 inch+ barrel

Achance (Diary) Saturday, December 5th at 5:42AM EST (link)

is federally legal. Only states like CA with black, scary gun laws make pistol grip shotties illegal, and in a place like that, I like the idea of only the outlaws having guns; I’ll just be an outlaw. Just how do you tell the difference between a muzzle brake and a flash suppressor?

Oooh, oooh, oooh.... Pick me.... Pick me !

If a stellar example of societal evolution is staring at ‘the business end’ of a muzzle brake or a flash suppressor, does it really matter which one it is ?

;)

Kenny, it matters a lot in liberal states like CA.

Whether there is something on the end of the barrel and whether that thing is a compensator, flash suppressor, or a muzzle brake will determine whether many weapons are legal or are nasty, illegal assault weapons.

The “thing” on the end of my Mini-14′s barrel is sold as a muzzle brake, not that a .223 really needs one, but it does a pretty good job of flash suppression as well. On the basis of being a muzzle brake rather than a flash suppressor, it is nominally legal in CA, but since it is threaded on, I’m not really sure and I’d hate to find out by hearing the guilty verdict.

My Mossie is federally legal, but since it has a King Armory Breacher Brake that King touts for its flash suppression capability and is threaded on, I don’t think it is liberal state legal. And I know it is ugly and scary enough to get me convicted of something in most of them.

I put the brake and a Knoxx Special Ops recoil absorbing stock on the Mossie mostly because I wanted my wife to be able to use it and not be afraid of it and they have worked for that. But, I gotta admit, I sure like it too; a 12 guage can give a pretty good pounding during a session at the range and all you get now is just a bit of a jump, no barrel rise and you can stay on targer much better – and no sore shoulder.
