National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill

H.R. 197, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns’ (R-Fla.) and Rich Boucher (D-Va.), would allow any person with a valid concealed firearm carrying permit or license, issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any state, as follows: In states that issue concealed firearm permits, a state’s laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within its borders.

In states that do not issue carry permits, a federal “bright-line” standard would permit carrying in places other than police stations; courthouses; public polling places; meetings of state, county, or municipal governing bodies; schools; passenger areas of airports; and certain other locations.

The bill applies to D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. territories. It would not create a federal licensing system; it would require the states to recognize each others’ carry permits, just as they recognize drivers’ licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards. Rep. Stearns has introduced such legislation since 1995.

I know Rep. Stearns is consistent and introduces this annually and I would comment on the absolute zero chance of this being actually passed and signed into law now, but with the current administration in place, just seeing it again as an actual officially entered piece of real honest-to-God legislation was enough to bring happy tears to my eyes.

I’ve already written to both Rep. Stearns and Rep. Boucher thanking them for making my day and also inviting them both to the local outdoor range (on me) if they’re ever here in South Florida on vacation or business.

OK, I’ll comment ………… But on only one little thing:

I have a feeling that the ‘bright-line’ rule prohibiting carry at “certain other locations” would mean…….. We’re cleared in all 50, plus D.C, Puerto Rico and US-VI, but as a thank-you to those who finally got this done, don’t even think of going anywhere near a gun-grabbing liberal elected or appointed official, citizen, or other abject schmuck who doesn’t understand The Constitution and Bill Of Rights.
