That is a very good point of course. It is also quite different than what is being discussed. This is just another financial product.

Speaking as a Muslim and as a Conservative, I just don't see how it affects anyone else one way or the other since no one is being forced to invest/save under Shariah's strictures.

It's a banking product catering to a particular customer base - capitalism at its finest.

I'm pretty certain that if a specific banking product could be tailored toward Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, etc. we would have long ago seen them being offered.

In their own words:

The process of settlement [of Islam in the United States] is a "Civilization-Jihadist" process with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that all their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" their miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except

The Kingdom purports only to care about the laws of Allah.

Some exercises of freedom can be used to impede the freedoms of others.

Sharia finance is no big deal . . so long as it is not simply another step towards the abyss.

Given the rise of Islamism around the world, this is a troubling development in my book.

until there was. And at that point, they were legion.

If you don't notice things like CAIR discrimination lawsuits (see Flight of Imams), increased labor strive over demands for special Muslim concessions (see Arkanasas meat packing plants), Minnesota tax cab drives refusing to take passengers with seeing eye-dogs,

The Muslim Brotherhood documents that were discovered during the recent Holy Land Foundation case clearly shows that various groups within the US are determined to use our own system to destroy our system, increases instances of "honor killings" on US soil, public monies being spent on footbaths, etc etc etc.

You can laugh at the argument if you want, but look to Europe and see the future.

I am Texan by birth, Virginian by choice. I also have spent a ton of time in the UK. Some of my ancestors are buried in Williamsburg. My ties to Texas are much more than just birth, I have lived most of my life in the two states with relatives mostly in Lone Star.

Virginian by birth, Texan by choice. And yep, I rack up frequent flyer miles and lots of phone charges to the UK.

But my ancestors got kicked out of England circa 1650 and ended up sailing up the James River.

Wasn't familiar with the term, although the situation is certainly familiar.

I liked the part about moral hazard in business, such as protected and entrenched managements. I'd always just thought of that as just "being an inbred weasel"! Who knew?

I thought there was kind of an unspoken given on 'no-government-unless-absolutely-needed', but I guess not.............. I think what I'll do going forward when taking on a volatile subject, is state up front that it's on us, the people of our country, Americans who deeply believe in our sovereignty, our Constitution and our way of life to tackle the issue directly. Places like RedState, local and regional grass-roots organizations, etc.

Take things to the media (at least the ones who will listen), do not give up or take no or maybe for an answer and say loudly and proudly, "this is wrong, this is not America" and state our deeply held reasons why.

I'm not advocating "picking up the rifles" (although I am scared s-less that very soon something is going to happen at one of the multitude of protests happening here and abroad, but that;s a totally different story... or is it ?)

The only way I'd want government involved is if laws are being broken and then I'd want government / prosecution to make da** sure that every single "i" is crossed and 't' is dotted, so there can be absolutely no b.s. from the media and the PC crowd.

Hope I cleared that up for you (and anybody else who was asking the same thing).

Cheers !

The easiest definition would be a situation where the costs of your behaivior are now borne by someone else causing a change in your behavior.

Life insurance can create a moral hazard (though more often you would look to your beneficiaries) but a more common example is car rental insurance. Once you've purchaed your insurnace for the rental period you may be less careful when say parking in a crowded lot since any damage to your car only costs the rental company. Wikipedia's definition here is passable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_hazard#In_insurance

AIG has thousands of products, this one didn't contribute to the reasons they recieved a bailout, if you object to the bailout on its merits - if you object becuase of one product they may offer to a subset of the marketplace that they think is profitable (and didn't cuase there downfall at all) for them that is asking for a level of govenremtn control over commerce that is dangerous.

Kenny, I appreciate your worry aboutthe reach of Islam and there ultimate goals - but are you really advocating restrictions from the govenrment on business models that serve muslim customers?

I am unwilling to give the government that kind of power over private industry because it is just a difference in time before that thinking is applied to Kosher food. And, frankly, if they can learn from the models ways to make banking profitable with less inherent risk that can't be a bad thing.

"too much insurance creates moral hazzards [sic]"

Can you define moral hazards? Are you saying that if I'm worth more dead than alive, then I'm putting the temptation to kill me in front of my beneficiary?
