Howdy again.

Found myself with some time on my hands this evening and thought, ‘why not’.

Didn’t have a clue politically until I realized that after listening to about-to-be-President Reagan speak a few times, I felt proud, honored and lucky beyond anything to be an American.

I’m 49, Jewish, college graduate and Republican since voting for Ronaldus Maximus for his initial term. I registered at 18 as a Dem, solely because my parents were and thought then ‘that’s what you do’. Then just a few years later, along came Ronald Wilson Reagan and a real awakening for me.

Mom and Dad both are still registered Democrats (Dad’s 86. Mom’s 82). Dad’s not capable of much right now due to Dimensia caused from twin subdural hematomas and the resulting major brain surgery a little over a year ago. Mom is pretty good, if physically a little slow and arthritic. Mom steadfastly will not vote for Obama, as even she sees right through him.

During the day, I help in a nice little way to protect kids . . . by installing surveillance systems in the schools down here in South Flori-duh. I’m not a government employee, but rather I work for a company that’s a direct contractor to more than one county school board.

I absolutely love my job and get to open and setup brand new digital electronic equipment all the time. I also get to pop big holes in big buildings with a really cool drilling system that makes a ton of noise and scares the he** out of people.

So I have to thank everyone here for my job. You all help pay my salary, even though it’s not direct. Much of the funding and additional grants come from DHS, DEA and other agencies, plus the counties and state . . . All of that better known as Tax Dollars.

Nominally, I work in elementary schools.

What I see in many of our schools makes me smile and laugh all day . . . little kids being little kids. Plus some really good teachers (yes, there are allot around) and programs that help kids learn, not teach per ‘the book’.

As a contrast, some of what I see in some of our schools frightens me and I’m not going to go into any of that here.

Some of the parents and even some of the teachers and staff I meet while working think what we’re doing is an invasion of privacy, government tracking of citizens . . . you know the deal.

I’m a pretty positive person, so if approached with this kind of thinking, I always ask them one question: ‘Do you have any idea what would happen in a good way if your child was seen on camera helping save someone from getting hurt, or maybe stopping another kid from getting on the wrong bus, or even better, simply doing the right thing in what might be a bad situation?’

Most of the time, that kind of makes a nice impression.

For a good number of years, I was in the music business. Fun? It used to be. I didn’t actually leave the business, but rather, the music business left me. I walked away with nothing, knowing I did my best to try and help bring some great unknown artists and music to light. Unless you’re into progressive rock (mostly from Scandinavia, Europe and UK), you probably haven’t heard of any of the bands I used to work with.

The begining of this thread, entry, diary, whatever it’s called, is truly my first one anywhere. Had no clue that’s what the big-font title would be – thought it was some sort of folder-like setup. Really wanted people to see the “Judgment” thing first . . . guess I didn’t use my own correctly, eh?

Yes, I think South Park is one of the funniest, most biting and honest television shows ever created. The first Christmas show completely blew me away. I was literally unable to breathe from laughing so hard over “meeting” Mr. Hankey and then seeing his dance. Then not even 5 minutes later, I was in shock and tears with Kyle singing “It’s hard to be a Jew on Christmas”. Those song lyrics were almost EXACTLY how it was for me as a kid.

I’m into NASCAR big-time (Jamie McMurray and Mark Martin fan), know that “my” Miami Dolphins will be good again someday and can’t get it through my head that Yankee Stadium, a place I once considered to be my second home, will be torn asunder in just a short time. My Dad grew up across the street from The Stadium (Gerard Avenue at 161st) and I spent more times than I even remember there.

Had a feeling that some people here would think me some sort of a left-edge plant, stooge, or whatever, but that’s how the internet bounces.

OK, I have to get on down the road for now and make a vague attempt at sleep. I’ll check back in a bit more often than I originally thought I would.
