Today is P-Day, the date Sarah Palin herself imposed as the deadline for her announcement to run for the Presidency. From U.S. For Palin:
Sarah Palin however has said she will make an announcement before the deadline to declare by the end of September. It is now September 8th, 2011 and all the media and her supporters have to do is wait till September 30th, 2011.
Never mind that last night she declared on Fox that, despite her own words, she probably won’t make up her mind today. Still, she said it. She set today’s deadline. Not the media. Not me. She did it.
To quote Leon Wolf, “Consider that of all the candidates, Sarah Palin has the least excuse for her dithering. Unlike Perry, Bachmann, and Paul, Palin hasn’t had a job with official duties for the last two-plus years. All the other quasi-retired or term-limited candidates have long ago declared. Even Jon Huntsman was serving as ambassador to China as recently as April; and by the way, Huntsman has a larger family than Palin does. I get that deciding whether to run for President is a difficult decision; however, the Presidency is a job of difficult decisions, and if it has legitimately taken Sarah Palin over two years to decide whether to even start the process of becoming President, then she is unfit for the job.”
So today, by her own admission since July, this is the date Sarah Palin should announce. Throughout the day we will monitor whether or not there is an announcement.
And yes, “drop dead date” is Sarah Palin’s own word choice. It is not the media’s word choice or her fans’ word choice. It is Governor Palin’s own word choice.
She has said the “media” is not going to set a “drop date” for her, but she set this one. In fact, you can hear Sarah Palin on tape talking about the deadline here. Go to 2:42 on this from August 12, 2011.
Palin says, “”I have said that that August to September time line is important for a number of reasons.”
I believe it is Jake Tapper in the blue shirt who then asks her “So by next month?” which would be September.
Her response?
“I think that practically speaking that would have to be it, that drop dead date. Also, in fairness to supporters who are standing on the sidelines, this is what I’ve told Todd over and over again, I don’t want to be perceived as stringing people along.“
Here’s another reference to Palin’s self-imposed deadline.
Well it’s here folks, no not Palin’s announcement (At least not yet.), it’s the first of September. Just as Sarah Palin said last month, September is the “drop dead date,” to decide whether to run for president.
The media has reported this for some time based on Sarah Palin’s own words.
Palin, who has said she plans to make a decision about the race by late September, will not announce a presidential bid Saturday [at her September 3, 2011, speech].
The best window into her thinking, perhaps, can be found in her own words on Aug. 12 when she talked expansively to reporters at the Iowa State Fair.
When asked whether the end of September was still the best timetable for her decision, she said: “Yes, definitely.”
“To be fair to those supporters and potential supporters, who are waiting on figuring out what the set field will be,” she said, “I want to be fair to them and make sure that they don’t feel like they are just hanging on to something that’s not going to happen.”
From MSNBC’s First Read on September 5th:
After making speeches in both Iowa and New Hampshire, two early voting states, the question remains as the holiday weekend draws to a close, will she or won’t she? Sarah Palin has indicated her “drop dead” date for a possible presidential announcement is the end of September.
And going all the way back to July 13, 2011, and Scott Conroy with Real Clear Politics:
Decision day is rapidly approaching for Sarah Palin, and for the first time the former Alaska governor has indicated a time frame for when she will make a decision about whether to run for president.
“You know, August and September, you do have to start laying out a plan if you are to be one to throw your hat in the ring, so that’s basically the time frame,” Palin told Sean Hannity during an appearance Wednesday night on Fox News.
This is a deadline Sarah Palin has imposed on herself. We’ll put an update up every hour on the hour until she announces today. And we know it will happen because all her supporters on Twitter have been telling us it will happen and today is the last day of September — her own deadline.
Unless, of course, having thrown off the shackles of humanity itself, September does not end until Sarah Palin tells September it can end.

When the only person she’s debated in the last four years is Joe Biden, makes you wonder what she would do v. Romney, Newt, or Perry.
Great Facebook posts, but as Ann Coulter said, it is time to “fish or cut bait”. We know she can do both very well.

rightjb Friday, September 30th at 5:37AM EST (link)Do me a favor. don’t try and debate publicly. I’d hate to see you get hurt.
1. Farve EARNED the right by being the best at what he did (and that’s hard for me to say as a Bears fan let me tell you).
2. What a BRILLIANT idea to NOT have to spend a dime on campaign funds and still be in 3rd or 4th place in polling! Perry was 8th and zoomed to #1. I have no doubt Palin would go to #1 when she announced. And all while others who had a NEED to earn their following – did the dirty work.
And you might want to be accurate in your condescension toward the single energizing figure for conservatives in 2008 and someone who endured endless “bloodying” by the press even after she went back to Alaska. She has been EVERYWHERE including a bus tour. Not “sitting at home.”
Really. Think before you type. And don’t write drunk.

Russ Martin (Diary) Friday, September 30th at 6:02AM EST (link)to string fans along like he did. Doing so caused a lot of fans to lose respect for him. And while he was great, lots of people would disagree with you that he was the best.
Sarah has strung a lot of people along as well. Polling data and anecdotal evidence suggests that support for her has dropped significantly, no doubt in part, because she appears to be stringing people along.
Most conservatives like Sarah – I know I do. I hate the way she has been treated by the media since she was announced as McCain’s running mate. I believe that she has “earned” the right to play the media and jerk their cage a little bit.
But conservatives love this country and realize winning back the White House is crucial to the future of our country. We’re ready for candidates that are serious about running and winning – not about creating media chatter. We’re ready to hear their specific ideas about how to solve problems (Perry camp, please take note). And we’re ready for people to step up and make their intentions known.
If she wants to run, she needs to announce today, or she’ll lose more support than she already has.
And for me, the same thing goes for Chris Christie. I’m tired of the mixed messages. Its getting late. Primaries are being move up. There’s work to be done. Sarah (and Chris) owe it to their base to step up, or announce that they are stepping out.

rightjb Friday, September 30th at 5:29AM EST (link)It would be so nice if Erickson did his homework before spouting off. At the IOWA Straw Poll event she clearly said “BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER”
Erickson has a habit of trying to put pressure on Palin and not having his facts straight as I blogged about weeks ago (http://streamofjim.blogspot.com/2011/09/im-sorry-but-screw-you-erick-erickson.html)
As I mention she has some other legal considerations that in all likelihood will make October 15th/30th the date to enter.

waitaminute Friday, September 30th at 5:58AM EST (link)But he’s right about Palin. The longer she delays a decision, the worse she looks. If it takes her this long to decide whether or not she wants to be President in the first place, how long will it take her to decide on policies once she actually is President? She could easily usurp Obama’s title of Ditherer-in-Chief.
If she had joined the race during the summer, I would have supported her. But the best thing she can do now is endorse another candidate so everyone hanging on waiting for her to join can go support actual candidates instead.

wolfeman Friday, September 30th at 7:04AM EST (link)How long a candidate waits to declare? The deadlines are in place for a reason. That’s so potential candidates can choose any day they darn well please all the way up until that day to publicly declare. If it takes waiting until the last day to get an actual conservative in this race, more power to her. With the field of candidates we have now, I see it as still wide open so I hope she jumps in even if it’s at the last possible second. The way I see it, if a true conservative doesn’t jump in this race, we’re totally screwed! Instead of worrying about Palin getting in, I’m more concerned about keeping Rino’s like Chris Christie out of the race.

BigRedConservative (Diary) Friday, September 30th at 7:24AM EST (link)Palin is an anachronism. She had her chance to enter the race and shake it up a bit. If she (in some fit of idiocy) makes a desperate run, she will find herself irrelevant, worshipped only by her loyal Shriners.

Just a friendly, fair warning. (And advice that I took for myself re: O’Donnell in 2010.)
All that said: a non-vote for the Republican candidate is an implicit vote for Obama. And I cannot in any way whatsoever fathom how you could consider Obama to be preferable to Palin.
This is how I see it
jkines (Diary) Wednesday, October 5th at 12:18AM EST (link)If we take the senate and hold the house we can, with an indomitable bunker mentality, contain Obama for the remainder of his term. After Hoover, Democrats controlled the Presidency for 28 of the next 36 years, that is NOT a feat I want to see repeated.

“ruled out an announcement within the next 24-48 hours to meet the “end of September” deadline some have inferred from her previous statements. I know that Palin is a smart player, because she refuses to get locked into a date and time by the media. She flatly told Napolitano that she holds her cards close intentionally, knowing that the media is relentless in trying to nail her down as to some arbitrary announcement date they have concocted and pushed for their own purposes.”

Here's why Erickson owes a public apology to us all
jseville Monday, October 3rd at 7:52AM EST (link)My response is not about whether Palin would be a good candidate or not for Republicans. Rather I think Erickson overstated to the point of misleading readers who just glance at headlines versus looking for the dirty details. I hope to trust Erickson to save me time by fleshing out the details but now I know I also cannot trust him to get past his own biases.
PASTED and Palin in her own words–not Eric’s:
Erick, you overstated Palin…perhaps to the point of putting words in her mouth. Then you act like a jerk about it–like a teenage punk on the hour every hour–and then whine about it when people attack you (I’m not defending inappropriate responses or attacks on you by any means).
PALIN: I still think it’s early. I think it’s too early. And I think that there’s still plenty of time for not just me, but others to — to consider jumping in the ring.
TAPPER: So by next month?
PALIN: I think that, practically speaking, that has to be kind of a drop-dead timeline.
So she refers to others generically up front (including herself to some degree in there…but she brought candidates in general into the scenario even putting the generic scenario for all candidates at the forefront) and then says “that has to be a KIND OF drop dead timeline.”
1. in the context of referring to candidates in general
2. She said it was KIND OF a deadline
3. She did not absolutely say it was her personal deadline either.
All this does not justify your hour on the hour tantrum. You lost so much credibility by people who happend to have been big supporters of you and who also love Perry besides. I mean Palin and Perry overlap on 95% of conservatism no? And you then you treat Palin like the enemy.
Shame on you for misleading people and now you’re probably lack the integrity to post my reply outright as it’s own piece to clarify to your readers who didn’t have time to see the details but were taking you at your word up front—because in the past we could trust you.
I hope to trust you again, Erick.
