It is that time

I have an announcement to make. Set your clocks for 7pm ET this Friday.

In my ongoing quest to become competent enough to maybe one day sit behind a certain golden microphone, I’ve kept guest hosting here in Macon.

On Friday, however, I’ll be headed up to Atlanta to sit in for Herman Cain on his radio show. WSB, the station, which also happens to presently be the most listened to talk radio station in the country, is now not just giving me 50,000 watts to abuse, but an FM station as well.

That’s right — the show is simulcast, i.e. causing liberals to cry out even more about those awful conservative talk radio guys taking over.

Consider this an open thread.

For such a time as this...

logus (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 1:52PM EST (link)

I often wonder what my “meaning” is. It’s not a philosophical quandry or question, nor one causing me angst, soul searching or going off to “find myself”.

As with many things, I think we realize only in hindsight what we are meant to do, once we’re doing it. I mean, is my job (and it is a great honor and humbling responsibility) to just be a stay-at-home dad and raise my boys, or am I meant for something more, but I still need time to prepare?

When I was very young, my mother thought I could be a politician or a preacher, both of which I naysayed. Now, years later, who knows!

Years ago walking back in my faith in the Lord I felt led to go on some mission trips. I stepped out in faith and I received tangible proofs – to me – that it was what I was meant to do.

I applaud your efforts and your work Erick. Keep it up. Maybe one day I’ll be in a place where I can solidly preach the gospel or expound on our American heritage and government. For now, I feel I still have so much to learn.

how about some dull stuff?

AS far as I can tell the GOP set another primary turnout record for a midterm election in Wyoming on Tuesday. Turnout was slightly over 100K compared to 90K or below in 2006-2002-1998. Democratic turnout was below what it was in 2006 and they actually had a contested primary this year.

So here’s a list of states where the GOP set primary turnout records for a midterm election. Maine-South Carolina-Georgia-Alabama-Tennessee-Kentucky-Michigan-Arkansas-Missouri-Iowa-Kansas-Colorado-Texas-Oklahoma-New Mexico-Utah-Nevada and now Wyoming. By my reckoning the democrats set a turnout record this year in CO and that’s it folks. So where is the passion this year?

Just a note on WA’s results. There was a new voting system in place this year. In previous years a voter could vote in for a democrat in the senate primary-a republican in the governor’s primary then an indie in a congressional race. All the choices were listed on one ballot and you just picked one person from any party in a single race.

This year you had to choose a party ballot. You could choose any party but if you did democrat you could only vote for democrats. So the ratio between Rossi and Murray is not as crucial as indies probably did not choose a primary ballot.

Just a note that in 2008 the party ID was 36D-26R or roughly 3-2 in the democrats favor. This year apparently the primary breakdown was roughly 50%R-50%D. So again GOP voters are turning out.

Thanks for the primary process info.

I wasn’t sure just what had changed in WA.

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. Oh goody more hate in the mailbag.

I love it when you open the mailbag. You just weren’t getting enough from the CNN gig. But with just a little effort on your part, you’ll have that bag full in no time and we’ll be laughing all the way through November.

Congrats on Fri gig....I'll be listening

I am happy about the Blago trail outcome

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 3:43PM EST (link)

I am sure the guy was as guilty as hel!, and then some. I’m sure he did try to sell the O’s seat. I am also sure that the O, Emanuel, Jarret and Axelrod were doing some dirty dealing on their own, as well as Jesse Jackson Jr. The Washington elites were protected from having to testify, well, because they are above the law. So in the end, I’m glad that one person only didn’t fry for what many were involved in.

Now Fitzgerald is going to do another whole round, and, bring up the same tried and failed charges. He did the same to Scooter Libby. He will only help the Republicans, because this whole mess will stay on TV through election season.

Fitzgerald has performed a great service for Comrade Obama

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 4:44PM EST (link)

and I’m sure will be appropriately rewarded. Blago’s conviction probably won’t survive appeal, but by jumping the gun on the investigation and indictment, he saved Obama, Emanuel et al. from actually getting caught doing what everyone knows they were doing.

I HATE Funerals! Sen. Stevens' funeral is on TV here now.

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 6:32PM EST (link)

Says something that the major cable provider put it on their channel statewide, public TV has it on statewide, and even the CBS channel in Anchorage has it. The had a wake at the major Episcopal Church in ANC and the funeral itself is at the Anchorage Baptist Temple, the largest church in Alaska with seating for a couple of thousand in the sanctuary and then an overflow room with video for almost that many. Not a seat in the house or a parking space within miles. The streets were lined with people for the procession to the ABT. Lots of people hated him, as did many here, but the people of Alaska loved him and have only now realized what a mistake they made in Nov. ’08.

Appropriately, full military honors and all the ceremony that goes with that. The pallbearers are all military from all the branches. Everybody who’s anybody in Alaska is there, and a lot that are pretty important elsewhere as well. Don’t know if Sarah Palin is there, didn’t see her. I’d be happy if she’s not. There’s not much else happening in Alaska today.

Earthly concerns and concerns don't matter so much

for him anymore, but I am glad he was totally exonerated before passing, not just for his sake but for all his friends’ and family’s sakes. It is lightening, even if only a bit, their burden this week. Also from another corner of the empire, and another railroaded Republican – DOJ announces after 6 years they are dropping investigation of Tom DeLay in relation to the Jack Abrahamoff scandals.

Well Funerals are boring and if you're related, you'll cry your eyes out

and that’s what I have to say about funerals. The guy I do my flying at is housing a Cessna 206 TC with a Garman glass Flight deck. I wish I had 300k to buy it. I thought that might make you happier Art.

Joe Biden is like a Decrepit Park owner with a Meth lab that happens to not only be a dealer but a user.

Let’s Bankrupt the Democratic paty. Make spend all the money to defend thier candidates.

A Joe Biden I'd never seen. Easy to not like Biden if you're a Republican,

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:53PM EST (link)

but he did an oration at Sen. Stevens’ funeral that was relevant and sensitive. It was clear that he was relating a very personal, human relationship with the Senator.

Mitch McConnel was OK, but even when he’s sincere, and I think he was, it is hard to believe some of them. As I said, he was Ok.

Sen. Inouye was interesting. He and Stevens were, I think, the last remaining WWII vets in the Senate. They also represented to two former territories whose relationship with the US has not always been good. They’ve both had an “in your face” relationship with the US during their tenures in the Senate. I think with good reason. Let’s talk about the fish traps and the armed guards to keep Alaskans from fishing or refusing to honor a single world of the Statehood Act as it related to land selection. From the colony, it is easy to not like the US Government.

Anyway, like all the other thousands watching, I couldn’t keep my eyes dry or the lump out of my throat. I was raised as one, but I’m not a good Christian. I can’t say that I’ve accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, as my personal savior; just have never found that kind of faith. That said, I was raised in the Christian Church and the Christian tradition and I do find comfort in it. Considering the World we live in today, Sen. Stevens had a remarkably Christian funeral; the Word in the Spirit were in the room.

Anyone who thinks Comrade Obama is a good orator should have heard the Navy Rear Admiral who was once the Chaplain of the Senate. Another old WWII vet was the Episcoplian minister who spoke; old stories, old experiences, old friends, and old lives in faith. Maybe I’ll try going to Church again. Maybe not.

It was beautiful and touching. Lots of you loved to hate him; we loved him, and it took the USDOJ to take him out – under GWB for Chrissakes!

Well Art, here's the way I look at it

Jack_Savage (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:50PM EST (link)

There are only two real choices. Either we come from nothing and are going nowhere, or there is a Creator. If the former, then the foundation for my conservatism, natural rights endowed by my Creator, is reduced to ashes. If the former, then every man for himself, anything goes and rights are given by and taken away by the government.

If the latter, then there is a loving God and it is in our best interests, both for here on earth and for eternity, to get to know Him. He provided this opportunity through Jesus Christ.

Believe me, I have chased my share of skirts, drank Wild Turkey like it was spring water and can deliver a world-class cussin’ to this day, but the best times of my life were when I have been fully aware and immersed in the presence of my Lord.

Go back to church. And don’t worry about what kind of Christian you are – be present, pray humbly and be receptive. Could be a grand adventure.

Crawled out of an upside down C-206 one time, Richard.

Achance (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:32PM EST (link)

You can say you’ve seen Alaska when you’ve seen some of it hanging upside down from the seatbelts of a badly bent Cessna.

I’m a skeptic on glass decks. Don’t know planes so well, but on boats you can do the discrete units or the all glass with the black boxes. Lose a screen or a processor, you lose all the functionality. With discrete units, lose one, you’ve got another one or at least a substitute.
