1. We Should Not Be Surprised By Barack Obama’s Speech

While conservatives have had a marvelous time laughing at Barry O the Butt Kicker who can’t plug the darn hole, none of us should expect anything else from him.Whether conservatives, independents, and liberals want to admit it or not, the platitudes Barack Obama pronounced Tuesday night are all he can say on the subject of the oil spill. That might make your head spin to consider, but it is the God’s honest truth. He is not physically or mentally able to go beyond those words.Barack Obama, like Carter before him, has a world view that government can solve every problem. All problems are problems for government intervention.But here is a problem the government cannot solve. It will not solve it. It has not solved it. It is not going to be solved by the government. This oil leaking from the Gulf of Mexico is a problem that will be solved by a private company working in collaboration with other private companies.The government has failed the basic task of securing the border from illegal immigrants. It is failing to secure the coastline from the oil slick. Government is failing. Barack Obama believes government cannot fail. The Christ died. On the third day he rose again from the dead. There will be a last day and he will return to judge the living and the dead.As the Bible says, “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” (1 Cor. 9:22).Christ told St. Paul, “I am sending you to [the Gentiles] to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’” Acts 17b-18.He told the apostles, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matt. 28:19-20.That proclamation to “go and make disciples of all nations” remains with us today. 3. An Inconvenient Truth: Bob Bennett and Tim Bridgewater Together

Months ago I told you Bob Bennett and Tim Bridgewater were cutting a deal. I got so much blowback from so many people I actually had to remove the post from the front page of RedState. I stood by the story, but the brouhaha that resulted necessitated the post going into draft mode so we could get on with the day.Well, I was and am right. And it is more and more clear that Tim Bridgewater is playing seriously dirty in Utah with the help of Bob Bennett cronies.First, as I said back them, Bennett and Bridgewater struck a deal to throw support to Bridgewater should Bennett lose. Keep in mind that Bob Bennett knew before the Utah convention that he was going to lose.Second, we have the mysterious case of a Mike Lee mail piece. The mail piece had a picture of Mike Lee over the Mormon Temple in Utah and a picture of Bob Bennett over the U.S. Capitol. The mail piece asked voters to determine which of the two better represented Utah values.The piece clearly was designed to appear like it came from Mike Lee and was calculated to put Mike Lee in a terribly light. It came out right before the convention and had lots of people condemn Mike Lee for bringing religion into politics.There’s only one problem — Mike Lee had nothing to do with it. 4. Republican Senators Declare Themselves Gutless Wonders

The Politico has a story about Republican Senators running away from Sharron Angle. It includes this gem of gutless wonderdom:”Several Senate Republicans told POLITICO that they don’t favor privatizing Social Security, as Angle has supported. Small government conservatives said it doesn’t make sense to eliminate the Energy and Education departments – as she’s called for in the past. 5. The National Rifle Association’s Excuse Holds No Water

The National Rifle Association and its supporters are pushing back against conservatives who have accused the NRA of selling out to the left. The NRA worked with Democrats to carve out an exception from a new anti-free speech piece of legislation.As the Wall Street Journal notes, “Under the NRA carve-out in the House bill, the new rules won’t apply to any organizations that have been around for more than 10 years, have more than a million members and receive less than 15% of their funding from corporate donors. That fits the NRA nicely, though as best we can figure, everyone else, from the Sierra Club to Planned Parenthood, fails to qualify.”Push back from the NRA is very simple.
