Let’s ignore the lies Trey Grayson is telling about Rand Paul and just look at the debate from the other night. This pretty much encapsulates the debate, except it is really hard to convey the total level of smugness that exudes from Trey Grayson. South Park could do a follow up to their smug cloud episode and move to Kentucky where it’d just follow Trey Grayson around everywhere. But I digress . . .
“When we tighten our belt doesn’t mean we should throw out all those kind of earmarks,” Grayson said in defending the dollars directed toward a program called “Unite.”
Paul retorted that Grayson was promoting “the Democrat mantra — let’s throw money at the problem.”
He advocated “more local solutions and less of Washington telling us what to do.”
Trey Grayson has attacked Rand Paul for not wanting to bring home the bacon.
Trey Grayson has attacked Rand Paul for wanting to vote for balanced budgets. What the heck type of Republican opposes balanced budgets? Apparently, only Trey Grayson.
Grayson also defended the federal government’s role in Kentucky’s education and also the Agriculture Department and all of the Washington dollars flowing from the corrupt and over-bloated farm bill.
And lastly? When Rand Paul attacked TARP, Trey Grayson kept his mouth shut. Grayson has never actually said definitively if he would or would not have supported TARP.
That’s all you need to know for why I gave Rand Paul $100.00 yesterday and that’s all you need to know for why Jim DeMint has endorsed Rand Paul.

Balanced Budgets
trt1 Wednesday, May 12th at 11:11AM EST (link)Erick…
Conservatives need to be very careful with any talk of “balanced budgets”. A conservative knows that means spend less. Liberals would view it as tax more. Radicals like Pelosi would love a balanced budget amendment. Do you think that would control this congress from spending? Hell no it wouldn’t…but it would mandate they raise taxes like we have never seen before. Knowing that… I hope conservatives are very careful with any talk of “balanced budgets”. Just my $.02.
Rand addressed this in an interview
sailingaway Wednesday, May 12th at 2:17PM EST (link)There are a lot of versions of the balanced budget amendment around. One would require 3/4 vote to raise taxes.
Didn't see the interview
trt1 Wednesday, May 12th at 2:31PM EST (link)Glad to hear it. I’m sure you share the same concern. There are only two ways to balance a budget…spent less or tax more. We are all well aware of what the fine folks in D.C. will choose to do if given those two options. I don’t even trust the 3/4 vote version. I say 100%. In other words…last resort after the budget has been whittled down to only funding the constitutional requirements of the federal government. Dare to dream…
Cheers!

Announced time table and draw down...
jederrick (Diary) Wednesday, May 12th at 12:02PM EST (link)Our spending is significantly impacting our economy, freedoms, and liberties…
Yet so few are willing to face that fact. I believe the current situation with the unemployment, tea party movement, Greece (don’t forget the rest of the countries right behind them), etcetera offers a great opportunity.. We can explain what the future looks like if the current course is maintained. Greece’s financial collapse and impending austerity programs are a sniffle compared with heart attack that will occur if Japan, the US, or other top five economy suffers the same loss of confidence, rating downgrade, etcetera.
I believe we, the people, and the new government that will be coming into power if we are successful in the political action required need to outline and articulate what this would do to the American people.
Second, I believe rather than just stating how bad the fixes would have to be if we wait until the end, we need to outline a concrete plan that shows the time table and draw down of government spending and debt. The groups have to get to some level of agreement of what that would look like – this will be the challenge.
1) Conversion of defined benefit to defined contribution entitlements
– This is an absolute requirement to escape what is happening in Greece.
– With conversion to defined contribution, what capital is available can fuel investment and commerce.
2) Reduction of staff
– Functions that are extra-constitutional need to handed back to the States or eliminated.
– The current staffing levels are approximately 2 million (hard to keep up). It is likely that this could be reduced to just a couple hundred thousand.
3) Timeline
– Plan objectives, targets, and schedule developed and documented by the end of 2011
– Plan enacted in upon gaining control of house, senate, and executive on January 2013
– Expected timeline for drawn down and transfer of State based functions well underway (say 50% of target) by mid-terms and complete by 2016.
4) Impact to the States
– Elimination of unfunded mandates and non-productive regulation will save states money
– States that want to replace services and functions eliminated at the Federal level would necessarily have to tax and spend to replace those functions, states that would prefer a lighter and more nimble economy
5) Impact to the Citizens
– Elimination of deficit spending and overhanging threat of unfunded entitlements will increase real economic growth
– Reduction of tax burden will free more $$$ for self-directed and local directed spending.
– Reduction of implicit tax burden (deficit spending) will eliminate the inherent tax that is applied to all (poor, rich, the unborn, working, and retired).
The Dishonesty of Grayson's Campaign has Been Breathtaking
constitutionalconservative (Diary) Wednesday, May 12th at 12:35PM EST (link)Not only did James Dobson basically call Grayson (and Mitch McConnell) liars for distorting Rand Paul’s political positions to him (He responded by flipping his endorsement from Grayson to Paul) but now even Mitch McConnell’s 2008 campaign chair (And Bush’s 2004 Kentucky fundraising chair) Cathy Bailey has basically done the same thing.
She endorsed Paul yesterday saying
“Like many people, I was originally told things about Rand Paul’s views that turned out to be false. The truth is Rand Paul is a true conservative and he will not participate in the business-as-usual culture of Washington D.C.”
For Cathy Bailey to have publicly repudiated her McConnell (whose campaign she chaired just 18 months ago) in this way, tells you just how dirty the establishment smears have been t in this race.
And it also tells you what a sweet victory it is going to be for grassroots conservatives when Paul is our nominee.
Paul
atlasintel Wednesday, May 12th at 12:52PM EST (link)becoming the next KY US Senate Nominee will embolden other conservatives across the country to step up and support their own race’s respective conservative against the establishment. This is our chance folks, we can’t let this opportunity pass. Outside of the obvious rhetoric differences in this race, just line up the endorsements: McConnell, Cheney and Guliani for Grayson; Dobson, Palin, Bailey, Forbes, DeMint, N. Kentucky Right to Life, Concerned Women of America, Gun Owners of America and Republican Liberty Caucus for Paul. The choice is ultra clear.

Rand Paul
drawlings Thursday, May 13th at 7:03PM EST (link)I am a registered Republican who will be voting in the primary on Tuesday. My fear is that Rand Paul can not win the general election against either of the Democratic candidates. Grayson has won two statewide races in a very Democratic state( by registration figures); Kentucky usually votes Republican in Presidential elections. If Paul wins, I will support him wholeheartedly; however, I am concerned that the Democrats and the state’s left leaning newspapers will paint Paul as an extremist. Has anyone seen polling to show how Grayson and Paul will fare against the Democratic candidate?
Republican year
jamesmackey Friday, May 14th at 7:23PM EST (link)He will win and I think by a wide margin. This is a Republican year and I don’t see the economy getting any better. He should run on budget deficits and health care. Remind voters over and over that for the first time we might be handing young people a lower standing of living. Play up that he’s a Doctor and not a career politician like he’s been doing in the primary.
Republican year
drawlings Tuesday, May 18th at 7:41PM EST (link)Kentucky is heavily Democratic; the Democratic candidate will probably be a doctor also. I’m afraid that we will lose Bunning’s seat and have a Democratic senator for the first time in decades. Grayson has won two statewide races, and I think that he would have been a stronger candidate for the fall, but I will contribute to Paul’s candidacy and support him.
According to some economists, the unemplyment rate will peak in June and then start to drop. The economy will then not be the critical issue that is is now. From May until November is a long time in a political race.
