In Barack Obama’s address to the nation regarding his nomination of Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court, he said, “Neither [Elena's mother], nor Elena’s father, lived to see this day. But I think her mother would relish this moment. I think she would relish — as I do — the prospect of three women taking their seat on the nation’s highest Court for the first time in history. A Court that would be more inclusive, more representative, more reflective of us as a people than ever before.”
How exactly is Elena Kagan’s appointment to the Supreme Court going to make the Court “more representative”? Let’s not even go down the road leftists like Andrew Sullivan at the Atlantic and Ezra Klein at the Washington Post are going, which is to question the lady’s sexual preference.
Let’s stick to the rest of it. With the rest of it, we find that not only is Elena Kagan not representative of America, but Barack Obama is full of it.
The woman is replacing the last of the military veterans1 on the United States Supreme Court. One might think, given the military issues that will undoubtedly come before the Supreme Court in the next few years that it might actually be good to have a veteran on the Court.
More galling, Barack Obama, who has spent his entire career holding the military in disdain, is not only replacing the last veteran on the Supreme Court with a non-veteran, but replacing that veteran with a woman who thought it constitutional and proper to throw the military off college campuses. She did not only think it proper, she went all the way to the United States Supreme Court for that right only to be beaten down in an 8-0 decision.
How is a Supreme Court with no veterans in a time of war a good thing?
More so, this woman, during her time as Dean of Harvard Law, appointed only white people to positions of influence, save one. If she were a Republican, that alone would be grounds for a filibuster.
And if that was not enough, Ms. Kagan’s appointment will lead the Supreme Court to a Court composed entirely of Harvard and Yale graduates — the same schools whose graduates that have led us into the financial morass we are in. Throw in Kagan’s connections to Goldman Sachs and we have only one question that must be answered:
Does Barack Obama really believe the balderdash he lets pass through his lips?
Only in Obama’s ivory tower does Elena Kagan somehow make the United States Supreme Court more representative of American society. And only in Barack Obama’s America does creating a Supreme Court without a military veteran pass as a positive thing.

To be sure Anthony Kennedy signed up for the National Guard, but it is definitely not the same. Just ask any leftist who complained about George Bush’s lack of military experience against John Kerry.

Apparently the left, the media, the administration, even conservatives, and Kagan are all operating a DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL policy.
Hmmm. Seems kinda … HYPOCRITICAL.
But, hypocritical is what the Left does.

Control freak is also what the Left does, and what they are. That’s what we need on the Supreme Court, a bleeping control freak who will twist the Constitution, and the facts, and logic, to arrive at their already determined conclusion. Let us hope this one never gets out of committee, but that may be too much to hope for.

Kagan was adamantly against "Don't ask, don't tell" until...
southernpatriots (Diary) Tuesday, May 11th at 7:04AM EST (link)As part of the Clinton administration, Kagan was adamantly against his policy of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” and then as dean of Harvard Law expelled military recruiters over her objections to this policy. Now the policy is practiced by the news media to protect her lesbian lover, who is apparently well known to most at Harvard Law, and known to the news media. Their policy is that since she has not admitted her homosexuality, since she has not come out of the closet, then the main stream, drive by, dinosaur news media will not report on it. I feel better at canceling my subscription to the NYT and other papers and no longer subscribing and reading Newsweek, oh that one is biting the dust?, and sending many emails to Consumer Reports, who instead of researching Obamacare carefully and sending out a survey (as they do for many other things), instead of remaining impartial, became a strong advocate of Obamacare. With the added cost to us, we will not be able to afford to continue our subscription to Consumer Reports which we have had for decades.
And if this was a conservative

Yeah,

Hell it took Colin Powell pretty much selling out republicans for him to get his black card back. What Clarence Thomas did took tremendous courage, in the mold of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr..
Colin Powell is Colin Powell. I don’t think he has changed. He never said he was a conservative. He’s more your New England style Republican. He has every right to be. He is very much in the Republican historical mold.

There are even clear class distinctions inside of England itself. I met a pilot for Alaska Airlines that is here because his father and mother were from different classes, and could never be accepted socially in England; then or to this day.
Look up the Corn Laws:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_laws
These were repealed at the time of the Great Irish Famine, but didn’t go into effect till after there were a million dead bodies, and another million had immigrated. Much of our conflict is economic based, and has nothing to do with race. Race issues are just a foil to maintain an economic system, and a divided electorate. Not to say some do regard the color of skin. But for the elite, there is big money in this, and it will be fixed about the same time local pols allow sound walls to be built forming the canals in New Orleans.
Actually, the White House *did* ask.

An administration official, who asked not to be identified discussing personal matters, said Kagan is not a lesbian.
I guess the only way they know this is that they asked.
The fact that after this story was published a few weeks ago mentioning an unnamed administration official, the White House did not respond: “We *don’t* know, and further, we *don’t* care.” says a lot.

Thoughts about representatives of the people.
Hugh (Diary) Tuesday, May 11th at 7:22AM EST (link)BHO said that Elena Kagan would mean the Supreme Court would be more inclusive, more representative… (you can read the quote above). I pulled out my pocket Constitution to check out the difference between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Court. Guess what I found? Doesn’t mention that the Supreme Court is supposed to be representative of the people. Founding Fathers made provision for that otherwise.
What then is the purpose of the Supreme Court? Maybe it should be that they represent the Constitution. Why would the Constitution need a representative? To protect it from “we the people” is the best answer that I can give.
If Elena Kagan believes that the Executive Branch should be more powerful (which I read that she believes) then she would not be a qualified representative of the Constitution. There are no written qualifications to be a Supreme Court Justice. (I guess that means that I am just as qualified as she.)
I for one do not believe that she is qualified if her plan is to change the constitution from the bench rather than represent it.
Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it.

Lightfoot Letters
lightfootletters Tuesday, May 11th at 9:10AM EST (link)President Obama, during his presentation of Kagan as his nomination for the Su. Ct. the President and Kagan referred to the Court’s need to know how the law effects the ordinary person. I believe that to be a serious flaw in his thinking and that of his nomination. It is the job of Congress to be concerned as to how legislation effects the ordinary citizen. The job of the Su. Ct. is to interpret the law not how the law effects the average person. The President and Kagan infer it is proper juries’ prudence to make decisions based on personal opinions as to the effect of the law and not the letter of the law.

romeg Tuesday, May 11th at 10:16AM EST (link)and to which I cannot find an answer is if homosexuality is so great, good, wholesome and normal then why must it go by a euphemism or an alias rather than its real name?

The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” – C. What I want to know is
conservativeinca Tuesday, May 11th at 11:48AM EST (link)whether or not her homosexuality will influence her decisions in court cases. That is the problem for the leftists – not that they hold leftist views, but that they ignore the constitution when they vote on court cases because of their viewpoints. I believe that this nomination is more about

hickorystick (Diary) Tuesday, May 11th at 3:11PM EST (link)There are a lot of gay people in the Seattle area, and I’ve met quite a few. Most of them come to grips with their sexuality, and go on with their lives as useful citizens. Some don’t, and spend their lives blaming others for their unhappiness. for example, in the latter case, The state’s hughest diversity director/trainer. She is a Jewish lesbian as well. With her state funded classes, she teaches that White people are the cause of all the pain and suffering in the world, because of their colonial past. Never mind this country accepted Jewish people from the Russian Pale, and helped them get away from eastern Russian Pograms. They also avoided the Holocaust as residents of this country. Some, I repeat some, have a chip on their shoulder and take it out on the citizenry. No politician is going to take them on, and no-one from the over-paid professional class is going to risk confronting them either.
As far as the gay part, it gives certain of them a special get out of jail free card, when they don’t behave well with others. They can be very subversive when the wan’t to. But then again I’m a content of their character kind of guy, and what do I know. Let her on the bench, she’ll play with others just fine.

Troubled by MSM Cone of Silence on Kagan Sexuality
After Seven (Diary) Tuesday, May 11th at 3:05PM EST (link)As a practical matter, Kagan’s sexual orientation is probably a net plus in terms of public perception. I wouldn’t confuse voters contempt for Big Gov,, Spending or even Anti-Gay marriage positions with a notion that people would begrudge an openly homosexual individual on SCOTUS. I’m guessing a majority of Americans would probably applaud it, say no biggie, and go about their business.
Other than an MSM reference to her being a lover of softball, I can’t find much on her sexual orientation in the last 36 hours. This is strange given Obama’s love for identity politics and also his desire to make nice publicly with a constituency that he has largely ignored (As apparently Kagan has as well.)
What’s troubling is that Dems are not acting in their predictable manner. So what’s under the surface? I have no clue, but there must be a reason. Why would Obama lose an opportunity to exploit is theme of the “Bigoted Right” which surely would become an issue whether real or manufactured if her sexual orientation were publicized contemporaneously with her SCOTUS candidacy.
So why has the left decided to take a pass on marginalizing right wingers who are all obviously radical homophobes? (sarcasm)
