Good Friday 2010

Were you there when the sun refused to shine?

There’ll be no Morning Briefing this morning. Have a blessed holiday.

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.  And sitting down they watched him there;  And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

. . . .

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.  And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.  Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.  And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

I cannot imagine the horrors that our Lord suffered for us that day.I can barely stand to watch the video from the Passion. It is a shame that we do not give Good Friday the status it deserves. If people would really stop to think about what Jesus endured on Friday so that He could Arise on Sunday, perhaps this country would be in much better shape.Well I for one can not express the gratitude in my heart for Good Friday.

Thank you for your honest courage to be who you are

This is what is most important.

This is what is most needed.

From another “clinging to his religion” as one clings to the act of eating and breathing – or perhaps as one “clings” to gravity and light.

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

We should remember never to apologize for our beliefs, but rather share them.

Thank you.

Erick, thank you so much for taking the time to

write this and to remind us of the sacrifice which was made by Christ so that we might be reconciled to God.

May the joy of the Savior’s resurrection surround you and your family this Easter weekend.

What a moving post

I am thankful that I live in a state that still has much reverance for this day. My children are out of school…and they know it is because today the Lord gave his very life so they could live- NOT because a rabbit comes to bring chocolate! Thanks Erick for the beautiful post. I pray daily that those discouraged by Christianity and bitter form past hurts will trust in Him and lay aside their burdens to find the absolute joy of living in and for Him.

Loved the Johnny Cash and Carter family video

Found myself singing and rocking to it. Love the old Scots-Irish Gospel singers, and the weaver women songs. Jesus set the example of how we should bear our cross, June Carter Cash followed it well, and spent many years bearing Johnny too.

Johnny Cash and his gravely voice, so beautiful.

Suffering for the gospel

Hugh (Diary) Friday, April 2nd at 2:44PM EST (link)

We have generally not had to suffer for the gospel of Jesus Christ in this country but there could come a day that we will. On this Good Friday I am also am comforted by the words of Paul to Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:12-14 (NAS) “For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed ; for I know whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which I have entrusted to you.”

Erick, thanks for the post. I hope we never have to suffer as our Lord did for us on this day.

Thank you, Erick, for that wonderful reminder of who Jesus was and is, what He sacrificed for us, and what today and this weekend means.

Went to a wonderful Maundy Thursday service at church last night. Wonderful remembrance of Christ’s last night on Earth. I am fortunate to sing in our church choir, but it was also nice to have my kids in the service with my and my wife’s parents. Kids can never be taught to early about the grace and love of our Lord.

Have a wonderful, blessed day, all of my friends here at RedState. God sent His only Son to die, that we might have eternal life with Him.

Thanks again, Erick. Truly a blessing.

God Bless, and I’ll be back soon!

As we remember His great sacrifice, so too we will soon remember His miraculous victory over death that we might have life.

Being able to freely share our faith and defending our religious liberty is something I love about the Red State community. May the Lord richly bless you and your loved ones this Easter season.

Thank you Erick

Religion is the reason for so many wars; The Crusades, 9/11, War in Iraq, etc.

Use your faculty of reason and logically surmise that when you die your brain is shut off and you rot in the ground and become just another link in the food chain.

Now go ahead and ban me for speaking the truth. (even though you espouse the 1st Amendment and the Constitution, all of which allow freedom of religion and expression.)
