Supporting Nikki Haley Must be a Priority, Even if You Don’t Live in South Carolina

I’m sure some people get tired of me saying it, but we have to get conservatives elected nation wide. It is not enough to focus on Washington. It is not enough to focus on our own state. We need to look across the country and find good conservatives down to the local level. That’s one reason I like groups like American Majority. They are going into states and training the next generation of conservative leaders at the local level.

Somewhere between town council and the United States Senate though are those candidates who have a measurable, tangible, real impact on national issues, but are in the states. Governors are like that. Think of the real impact Bobby Jindal has had on the health care debate. Or Rick Perry. Or, in a negative way, Charlie Crist and the stimulus.

We have to support good candidates wherever they are. That is why we have to support Nikki Haley.

She is unquestionably conservative. She is unquestionably committed to limited government. She is not afraid to fight.

Make a pledge for Nikki’s money bomb. Let her know you will help. If you can give a lot, do. If you only give a little, give what you can.

We need leaders like Nikki. We can do this. But we must act now.

Put it to you this way: I’m going to pledge $500.00. That’s more than I can afford, frankly, and more than I’ve given even to Marco Rubio. But it’s going to take some sacrifice on our part to raise up an army of new conservative leaders.

I believe Nikki Haley is just such a leader and we need to get her on the radar and keep her momentum going. Please join with me (and don’t tell my wife how much she and I are pledging).

sending more to Nikki now

Nikki is a true conservative fighter. I’m glad to support her.

(and don’t tell my wife how much she and I are pledging)

secret’s safe with me.

Serious question — and I’m going to donate to Haley now because I like to hedge my bets — but do we honestly believe that Republicans are going to save us? How many of them are posers just using “repeal” to fundraise? Once in office, “repeal” becomes some watered down hooey. Future Republicans will measure there conservatism by how much less they want to raise taxes in order to feed the Obamacare beast.

Newt Gingrich circa 1996, Medicare: “reduction in the rate of growth”. Sound familiar?

The constitution has been nullified by the absurdly broad interpretation of the commerce clause. We The People should nullify the new law with civil disobedience. Push state legislatures and governers to enact laws that defy the Obamacare mandate.

Short answer: We should lead them. If they want to come along for the ride, fine. Glad to have em. But our definition of “repeal” will never change, and that’s all I can truly believe in right now.

Um...

So what do you propose other than finding the really good candidates and promoting them?

should support good candidates as I mentioned, (and as I just did), but for practical reasons, just don’t believe that they alone will save us from Obamacare. I guess I want to avoid relying on any Republican firewall like many relied on the Stupak firewall. Support legislative efforts at the state level to thwart the new law. Support the AG lawsuits and pray the USSC will hear the case. Have huge rallies at state capitols? At least make them explain where precisely the powers of the federal government stop nowdays? Maybe we can turn the debate away from Nancy Pelosi holding up a coughing 4 year old girl in front of her to deflect criticism and towards the constitutionality.

Erick once referred to NY23 as “a hill to die on”. If the Commerce Clause and the general welfare clause can be read so – liberally – as to make redundant 80% of the rest of the Constitution and virtually eliminate states rights (how can states have any rights when the CC covers everything?) then there is no Constitution and there is no law. There’s just whatever congress feels like doing in each successive generation. I know I’m preaching to the choir here but If defeating that is not a hill to die on, I don’t know what is.

Supporting Republicans

scottwilson10thpa Monday, March 29th at 12:47PM EST (link)

I guess this is about the issue of Tea Party vs Libertarian vs RINO, vs not far enough right Republican. The answer to this concern is simple, we can only assure that Democrats win if we don’t support Republicans, even the marginally good ones if that’s the only choice, because the alternative is worse. However, in the long run, we need to make absolutely certain they know they CANNOT win without us. And of course we can get involved in the selection of candidates in the first place. At some point in the process you are stuck with what you have.

Hmm..

I’m not convinced that Nimrata “Nikki” Randhawa Haley is the right candidate. I haven’t seen any good credentials other than people saying she’s a “strong conservative.” Well, how can I be sure she’s actually a conservative?

I heard she was born in India. If this isn’t true, why hasn’t she come out and shown her birth certificate? Why isn’t she denying the accusations?!

We need a good AMERICAN conservative for Senate.

Well, hate to feed the troll...

risingsteel (Diary) Tuesday, March 30th at 5:41AM EST (link)

Here’s the thing.

I have no idea if Nikki Haley was born in the U.S., but it doesn’t matter either way.

There is no reason that immigrants can’t be governors. Ahnold the Governator is an example of that. (An example of a bad/mediocre governor, but still, it was legal.)

So, your trolling days are done.

Yes, but that election is not in 2 weeks

gemimail Tuesday, March 30th at 2:33PM EST (link)

The election in FL-19 is two weeks from today and no one seems to be interested in helping Edward Lynch win. Everyone thinks that the Democrat will win when it just is not true any more than it was true for Scott Brown. To see why we can win this one, see: http://www.marstonchronicles.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=471&Itemid=1316.

true...but she's not just a "Republican"

jenniferjmilleresq Monday, March 29th at 4:23PM EST (link)

She has been fighting the Republican leadership in the S.C. General Assembly even though they stripped her of her leadership positions for introducing transparency legislation against their wishes (which finally passed after two years of her persistence).

Have been a Haley fan

for months. Thanks for standing up for her.

You are convincing

earlgrey (Diary) Monday, March 29th at 12:13PM EST (link)

I am still trying to recover from all the pledges I made in the health care debate. Trying to convince myself it wasn’t wasted money.

I planned to sit this race out, despite your pleadings, but finally gave in and gave a small amount.

Now if only I could arrange to have my credit card statement sent somewhere where my husband can’t view it. Hmmm

PA 10th is Another One

scottwilson10thpa Monday, March 29th at 12:32PM EST (link)

Okay, chiming in from PA. You should not apologize because these ARE of nation wide importance. I just sent Nikki Haley a modest contribution, as I did Scott Brown in January. I’d send more but we are in a fight here in 10th PA too, and we can win it.

I am a newcomer to being politically active, until this year all I can claim to have done is vote & complain. But my hot button is pushed, my main spring is wound, and I’ve come out fightin’…..like a lot of people.

Here in the 10th PA I can tell you we have a US House seat that can be reclaimed. I honestly have not run into one person who does not want to see Chris Carney ousted, people are disgusted. We need all the help we can get bringing national attention to this race. There are three Republican Primary candidates. I have seen all three speak and in my opinion, hands down, it’s no contest, David Madeira will beat Chris Carney if he takes the Republican Primary. So if you are looking and/or are able to support any of these races of nation wide importance please also check out David Madeira at www.madeiraforcongress.com and also see the most awesome campaign billboard in the nation.

Please, people, if you have a race you wish to enlighten us on, use the diaries section. Don’t take unrelated posts for that purpose.

Thank you!
