Should Barack Obama Suffer With the Rest of Us?

Ben Domenech has more on Chuck Grassley’s quest to have Barack Obama be part of Obamacare.

As Ben noted and I told you about yesterday, Democrats exempted senior Democrat leaders and their staffs from Obamacare. It’s like a scene out of Animal Farm.

Well, it turns out that Grassley is not done fighting this and intends to push the issue during reconciliation. Ben has the details.

Fantastic Opportunity

This is just the type of story that will break through to the MSM and cause a big stink. Republican Leadership should run hard with it. It has a real possibility of embarrassing just enoughSenators to punch a hole in the reconciliation bill! However, my worry — that Republican Leadership will like the exemption for their staff. We can’t let that happen.

totally agree

The Republicans should grab this and run with it–loudly! And now is the time while everyone’s head is still spinning. (and for heaven’s sake, not jump on the exemption bandwagon).

In "Animal Farm" all animals were equal, except

the ruling pigs were “more equal.” In Washington, the pigs are donkeys. Or is it the other way around?

Maybe this bill will devour itself

before the country? This is the sort of thing the GOP needs to relentlessly pound. The American people value fair play (well, most of them). They certainly don’t like the idea of the political class having special deals on an issue so unpopular. Instead of explaining healthcare and fiscal policy to people who don’t, won’t, and don’t care to “get it”, this sort of thing drives the point home with no explanation required.

We need more of the same to fight this. Grassley and DeMint need to just ignore McConnell and Cornyn and lead the Senate aggressively, day in – day out. DO NOT PAUSE.

Time for some phone calls?

Let’s let all the pubs know we mean business and to keep hammering away and that we won’t accept their pansy ass weak excuses for not taking care of business. They will be on the line one day, put the fear of god in them.

Welcome to Obama's Amerika

It is composed of the ruling class vs. the peon proletarians.

Guess which group we are now a member of?

I’ll give you a hint: It ain’t the former.

Obama’s coup is now very close to completion. All he needs to do now is get amnesty passed, and a permanent, defeat-proof socialist congress will be his – starting this January.

They have the votes, and even a few RINOs will fall in, too.

Buts let’s be sure to be polite and not offfffffffend anyone on the left.

Our elected representatives have failed us.

interstate commerce, or not?

MF (Diary) Wednesday, March 24th at 1:56AM EST (link)

From a Bloomberg article (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ajwSWE6H1kHM):

Nancy-Ann DeParle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform, said the president isn’t “concerned” about the potential legal challenges. Congress has the “inherent authority” to mandate coverage under the commerce clause that allows the federal government to regulate interstate commerce, she told Bloomberg Television yesterday.

So I was wondering – how do they claim interstate commerce, when the insurance companies are barred from selling across state lines? That sounds like a direct contradiction to me. Please correct my mistaken thinking.

Agreed.

And I’m for keeping the power to decide insurance law at the state level.

Soverign states can decide whether or not they want to allow interstate purchases today. If they don’t, then that’s their prerogative. It’s not the Federal Central government’s problem to solve.

Here’s an excellent market-based health care proposal that addresses the issue of pre-existing conditions in a sensible way. (It also can be implemented at the state-level, except for the Federal Govt picking up the tab for the uninsured that show up at the emergency room. But that’s not a mandate.)

Interstate Commerce and Racial Set Asides

izoneguy (Diary) Wednesday, March 24th at 10:09AM EST (link)

Is where to hit the hardest.
If Obamacare claims that it can regulate interstate commerce….
Wouldn’t there have to be interstate commerce to regulate?

As I see it – the insurance companies are now free to sell across state lines as of the signing of the bill. If they cannot sell across state lines then Obamacare is not regulating interstate commerce and is null & void as regards to the insurance companies.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Yep this will be effective if the word gets out. Nt

Why wasn’t this shouted out before?

Obama=Golfer in Chief, Leading from, behind, the Back Nine.
Leaders don’t create movements. Movements create leaders. Get involved. Your future depends on it.
Govt “invests” YOUR tax money for POLITICAL return rather than economic return.

Obamacare

I believe that the best way to reform health care is to FORCE all members of the government to be under the same plan and rules that they force on the citizens. Then and only then will we get we get honesty out of them.

we have to push this--I've been asking this question for months.

barbs003 Wednesday, March 24th at 12:33PM EST (link)

“Grassley’s December language would’ve required far more than just members of Congress and congressional staff to participate — he wanted to extend the requirement to the President, the Vice President, top White House staff and cabinet members (exempting federal civil employees) and also making them ineligible for FEHB. That’s the real strike against this, as it would prevent access to that nice Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage they typically enjoy.”

Insurance

alduhan Thursday, March 25th at 11:29AM EST (link)

Everyone in America that has a legal status here should have insurance. But the people that are paying for it should have first rights. The deadbeats and freeloaders should wait in line. I am sure we all know who they are. Obama should have the same insurance as all of us. He only believes that he is the Messiah and supersedes Jesus. This is not Americanism ( November 2010)
If America goes bankrupt, do you think it will hurt him, no he will just go back home.
