Stupak thinks “this is a good piece of legislation”, which means he meant to vote for it anyway and was looking for cover from his pro-life critics. To whom do you honestly think Stupak is a traitor?

He never tried to hide the fact that he wanted to vote for the bill.

This bill is the be-all-end-all for the Democrats.

If anyone feels betrayed by Stupak, it is their own damn fault for being gullible. It was obvious from the start how this would turn out.

The only amazing part of it has been how far we have been able to push the Dems for them to be able to pass it. It is to our credit that we were able to push them to (or past) the bounds of the law to get it done.

However, after all they invested in it, if you ever thought it was actually going to die, then you really need a good dose of realism in your political thought. Otherwise you aren’t doing anyone any favors.

We were forced to count on the promises of democrats. It was a losing proposition from day one. There was hope, but in the end it was what they wanted, and they made the deals necessary to do it.

We can only hope now that we continue to have 100% Republican unity and that we have sufficient momentum to really carry the day in November. I for one will work hard for that.

The lectionary Gospel reading at church this morning was from John 12:1-8. Judas objects to the use of expensive perfume being wiped onto Jesus’ feet, arguing “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”

The Gospel writer then notes, and I had not noticed this before, “He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.”

The federal government is the keeper of this country’s money bag. It has been, and continues more and more to help itself to what is put into it. Even worse, they use force to demand that all of us hard-working citizens put more and more into it.

This health reform travesty is the latest, worst example of their pretending to care about the poor and uninsured, when all they really want is to take our money for their own purposes.

Cowards. Thieves. Soon-to-be-ex-members-of-Congress.

Democrats who claim to be pro-life only do it for political expediency as displayed today by Bart Stupak. Anyone who truly believes that abortion is the taking of an innocent human life has no choice but to do whatever it takes to defend that life. An executive order from a known liar and supporter of fourth trimester abortions does not even come close to defending life. It does nothing more than provide political cover to a Democrat political coward.

Hoyer is now speaking. Asked for 1 minute and has been on for about 10 now. No warnings about time from the chair.
He’s equated this monstrosity to civil rights.
He’s called for continuing changes to enhance the bill.
He’s saying how it will save untold amounts of funds.
He’s saying the stimulus bill has produced millions of jobs.
He’s saying TARP is a revenue generator.
He’s saying the republicans will be remembered/punished for their opposition.

Do we really deserve the government we get?

There is no way any real conservative can serve today’s Democrat Party. Stupak was simply covering his anticipated ‘yes’ vote.

Not a single Democrat in Washington today has the best interests of this country in mind because they elected their leaders and their leaders do not care about the wellbeing of the producers in this country. Democrats want a malleable, naive constituency who are so dependent on entitlements they have to have the federal government in their lives on a daily basis.

Stupak knew what he was going to do all along, in my opinion, though his claims to the contrary did make fairly good TV drama.

I watched her interview with Stupak last week. Now I want to see if he has the guts to be interviewed by her again. Not bloody likely. Gutless coward. Anti-liberty trash that he is.

I had hopes, but in the end he met my expectations: Stupak would cave. He is politician, not an exemplar of courage.

The guy all along has said he is a believer in single payer for health insurance. He does think government run health insurance is the way to go. He never like current bill because it was not single payer and it did not prevent abortion coverage. The hurdle to government run medicine had already been made. Now it was just a matte of details.

Obama’s EO on this is nothing more than Obama keeping his word. He never keeps his word. BO is a proven liar . As soon as convenient, like 10 minutes after the bill is passed, BO will dump the EO probably. After all, he said he wouldn’t want his daughter stuck with a baby she didn’t want and too many anti-abortion types vote Republican anyway.

Will anyone really care about this come November? Will the passion fade? Maybe. Obama will get some gushing press as Bret Hume noted, but I am inclined to think that this is his Camp David moment. When the accords had been reached, Carter got a big boost in the polls. He fell soon enough because everything else was in the crapper. I think that will be BO’s fate as well.

I can only hope he takes Stupak with him.

We are TREMENDOUSLY saddened by the Stupak “compromise.”? deal? Right between the eyes, and right between the stomach. We have no expectations about Pelosi, but didn’t expect it from Stupak. There is no question we will all be paying for abortions. He will also put many catholic hospitals and physicians out of work because of their “conscientious” objections to abortion.

One is reminded of the life and death battle between St. Thomas More and Henry VIII. And of that famous line from “Man for all Seasons” by More, “But for Wales?” We all know, also, that Stupak will most likely lose his seat.

Since it is now confirmed that we will all go before the firing line during the reign of the Dragon Throne either directly or through denial of medical care, we do not know how we will “stand up” with courage.
