Ever heard of the American Center for International Labor Solidarity?
Well, the ACILS is a cover from the AFL-CIO. Same group. Different name.
See, Congress can funnel money to the AFL-CIO through this front group and no one can attack the AFL-CIO because who the heck has ever heard of ACILS.
Well, the AFL-CIO is now endorsing health care deform despite the excise tax in the legislation that creates a HUGE tax burden on workers. In fact, the Machinists Union is wholly opposed to the health benefits tax. Tom Buffenbarger, the Machinists’ union leader, is flat out at war over this provision and lots of union leaders are wondering why the heck the AFL-CIO decided to line up behind legislation that taxes union workers.
“For decades, IAM members exchanged substantial wage increases for the best possible health insurance,” said IAM President Tom Buffenbarger. “Now, in a bizarre turn of events, their insurance premiums will be subject to a forty percent excise tax if the Senate version of health care reform becomes law. Democratic leaders have the power to stop this travesty and I urge them to do so, quickly and completely.”
Well, guess what? This leads us back to the American Center for International Labor Solidarity. Here is the ACILS’s 2009 annual report.
If you look on page 29, you will find that Congress funneled $28,475,408.00 to the AFL-CIO through the ACILS for the year in 2008. And I suspect if you dig around you are going to find that the AFL-CIO now stands to get more money.
In other words, the AFL-CIO’s leadership is getting federal money in exchange for supporting a health care proposal that will screw its workers.

DerKrieger (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 7:42PM EST (link)I’d wager that buried deep in the 2,700 plus pages are hidden monies for scores of Democratic supporting organizations including but not limited to NARAL, NOW, SEIU, UAW, ACLU, AFSCME, et al.
The vote buying is deep and broad.
I have never understood how any private organization, Right or Left, can get taxpayer dollars. It has to stop. If they can’t get enough supporters to pay for their agitation we taxpayers should not be supporting groups opposed to Constitutional government.

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” – James Madison
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” — John Locke, 1690
Colonel Allen Weh - GOP Candidate for Governor of New Mexico
Sheet Anchor (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 8:02PM EST (link)Erick, and Red State Directors, et al.:
Please forgive the off–topic post, but I have e-mailed you and posted this last week on my Diary, but no one has responded yet, and I really believe this is important and thata you and the Directors should see this if you have not to date.
If you all have not had an opportunity to review US Marine Colonel Allen Weh, running for the Republican primary nomination for Governor of New Mexico, please consider doing so, as he is the kind of candidate that Red State may wish to support. As a result of last weeks’ New Mexico State Republican Convention, he is officially on the ballot for the Republican Primary in June.
Colonel Weh is a decorated combat Marine (38 years active, 3 wars, and reserve, Silver Star, Bronze Star with “V,” 3 Purple Hearts, 5 Air Medals), and successful business executive as the CEO of CSI Aviation Services, Inc., a company started 30 years ago by Allen and his wife. He is a strong limited government, lower tax, fiscal, and social conservative, having never run for political office. His campaign is well-organized, and began early last year. He has a lifetime of executive leadership experience in the Marine Corps, and as a business executive.
Enough said – all of the details about his background and candidacy are available on his web site below. I plead with you to review this great American as he is in direct alignment with the policy perspectives and positions of Red State. He is a man of honor, seasoned leadership, and moral clarity. There are videos of Allen on the front page of his web site, and elsewhere on the site.

Or continued government bailout of car companies
mavericktime Saturday, March 20th at 8:22PM EST (link)I was thinking that the reason unions support the health care bill is because 1) they want the U.S. taxpayers to take on the health benefits of auto workers, 2) the SEIU wants to unionize all of the hospital and health care workers, thereby getting more members, and 3) most union employees are government workers in various states, and they want the federal government to bail out the states.
ACILS and SEIU
gusso Saturday, March 20th at 9:00PM EST (link)No doubt the money that SEIU will steal from US taxpayers via this tyrannical health care abomination is far greater than ACILS.
Progressive, transformative, social justice, liberation philosophy – it all means higher taxes, less liberty, and more graft.
Very interesting...
wannabeanncoulter Sunday, March 21st at 1:00AM EST (link)Did some rummaging around on the web and discovered that the American Center for International Labor Solidarity is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, which was created during the Reagan administration to spread democracy around the world, including campaigning against anti-democracy candidates (some none too subtle CIA involvement there!). USAID is involved in there somewhere too. Before it was merged into ACILS, it consisted of four or five separate labor-related organizations whose use to the CIA and the NED you can only guess at.
Please, google around and see what you can find on this. It’s fascinating.
Reagan would be more than miffed to find out that the National Endowment for Democracy is now subsidizing union support socialized medicine!

Hmmm...
wannabeanncoulter Sunday, March 21st at 9:09PM EST (link)The more I rummage around on the internet and read up on the National Endowment for Democracy and the American Center for International Labor Solidarity, the more I grow convinced that the money “funnelled” to ACILS is being used not as a bribe for supporting Obamacare but for what it’s always been used for: working through labor unions and trade associations worldwide to promote democracy and pro-democracy candidates.
The best example of this is the ACILS/AFL-CIO role in anti-Chavez activities in Venezuela circa 2004-2005.
So at this point I’d have to say, No, the AFL-CIO is not getting federal dollars to support healthcare reform — at least not via ACILS.

My campaign has exploded since my opponent told the newspapers on each of the three days leading up to the vote that he would NOT vote for the bill. Then he voted for it–the Costello cash out. The people of the district are in a RAGE. They are throwing money at me and volunteers are coming out of the walls. It’s a great thing!

Money Spent on Political Activism is not Taxpayers Fault
rubicon01 Tuesday, March 23rd at 7:22PM EST (link)The unions will support health care because they are looking to get congressional & presidential support for….. a bailout of union pension funds. Or should I say seriously underfunded union pension funds. Underfunded because…. union leaders used dues paying members money for political activism and not to shore up the financially troubled underfunded pensions.
Now, union bosses will want the government to agree to bailout those pension funds with……. taxpayers money. They figure it was done for Wall Street so why not for them.
There is no way the public should bail out those pension funds. The public had to put up w/ unions using huge gobs of money to buy votes over the years for various political actions the unions supported. Now, as pension funds are exposed as underfunded, the union bosses want bailouts to cover for their actions.
The public should not be obligated to pay out a cent. The union members knew what their bosses were doing & many members supported the socialist like activities. Now the bill is due as many ready to retire & what do they want… even more money from others.
Let them go bankrupt. Its a shame, but it is also their own fault. The unions should not have used pension funds to pay for political activism. They are private pension funds & if taxpayers pick up the tab for political activities, then taxpayers would have to agree they pay for anything & everything, even when its illegal, immoral, and inept.
The unions made their own beds with members knowledge so its members must now accept responsibility for permitting & even encouraging that activism. Its not taxpayers responsibility.
