Barack Obama is telling Democrats that to ensure the success of his presidency, they must vote to pass health care deform. It is, after all, all about him despite his protests to the contrary.
This argument persuaded Dennis Kucinich — well that and there are allegations about a job for his wife though I’m not sure if that’s true. But given the pattern it is easy to believe.
In any event, Obama is telling the Democrats that if health care deform passes his presidency is successful and if it does not, his presidency fails.
What he means is that in order for Barack Obama to be successful, the Democrats in Congress must fail. All politicians are survivalists. Obama has convinced the Democrats in Congress that they’ll all survive if health care deform passes. But in reality, Obama knows if health care deform passes, the Republicans will take back Congress.
If the Republicans take back Congress, Obama will have someone to actually run against. It is very hard to run against the opposition when the opposition controls nothing. So Democrats will pass health care deform. They will be crushed at the polls. This will give Barack Obama a second term — at least that is his calculus.
It’s pretty smart of him. It is also amazing to watch the entire Democratic caucus lay day willingly in front of Obama’s unsatiated bus to ensure Obama a second term at their own expense — not that he’ll actually get one, mind you. But that is his plan. It worked for Clinton afterall.*
*Of course, Clinton then tacked to the right, going along with welfare reform and a host of other centrist to right of center ideas. How’d that work out for progressives?

There’s been no indication whatsoever that this is the case. If anything, He may position His Marxist ideology against congressional Republicans. In that case, it’s Game Over. A wipeout of Walter Mondull proportions.

peg_c (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 7:11PM EST (link)Or that that is Obama’s calculus, followed by Dems destroyed at polls which enables Obama to run against the Republicans in Congress and win a 2nd term??
I’m not convinced of any of the above other than that there will be a Dem slaughter in Nov. whether Deathcare passes or not. I’ve heard the argument that Obama will have an easier time of winning a 2nd term with Republicans in control of Congress. I’m not convinced of this either. He’s now despised by a huge percentage of this country and that will not ever change. You never get bloom back on a rose. If Republicans do take Congress and act in accordance with conservative and liberty-loving principles, the Drive Bys may spend 24×7 trying to destroy them but they’ve already become discredited.
None of this calculus even takes into account his next moves, if Deathcare DOES pass — Shamnesty, Cap & Tax, taking over the oil industry and numerous other industries, etc.
I’m sure Obama is very calculating and selling all the Dems down the river, but narsissistic sociopaths have a different version of reality than the rest of us and their calculus does not figure in things like the American people staying fired up and continuing to fight their every move.
I don’t think it can be overstated how sick to death this entire country will be of this con artist fraud long before the end of THIS term – whether that’s in his calculus or not.

Granted passing this bill would be a real tragedy, but what if Hillary had been President. We would have ended up with a smaller bill, but no less cancerous in its ability to eat away at our freedom and economy. I agree we must make him look like the obstructionist.
Again, though, the country doesn’t like his agenda. The Republicans’ being the party of ‘hell no’ has helped them and will win for them.
All they have to do keep obstructing and pointing out what Obama is.
Frankly, they should keep him on the defense. They should pass bill after bill cutting taxes, cutting spending, privatizing XYZ, everything America wants. Use Reconciilation; after all , it really does have to do with cutting the deficit. When Goofus (the idiot-in-chief) doesn’t sign it, go to Fox and the Talk guys and talk about how program XYZ would have given relief to families and businesses and would have helped economy. One major difference from the Clinton "recovery"
jonreagan (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 7:30PM EST (link)The jobless recovery continues, and businesses will now be more reluctant than ever to resume hiring. They heard all too well the other day as Pelosi began babbling about all the other things the Dems want to do. Faced by increased taxes and burdensome regulations, small businesses are not about to begin creating jobs.
And in my opinion, that’s when this Health Care monstrosity will begin truly begin to damage Barack Obama. Should this pass, he’ll get about a two week bounce. But the narrative that will emerge during the balance of this year is that of a President who went after a personal “trophy”, and neglected the country’s economic problems…..the President who fiddled while the country burned. Each time an abysmal unemployment number is released, voters will wonder why their President has spent his first two years, doing nothing about “the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression”……his own words.
And if that weren’t enough—-and if there were ever any doubt—-Obama will own the country’s debt and deficit problems after tomorrow, for good. No more trying to blame it on Bush, especially after an $800 billion stimulus bill and a $2.5 trillion govt. takeover of health care…..all in one year.
I don’t see any way Obama in 2012 pulls off the kind of reelection Clinton did in 1996. No way.

jeff_0175 Saturday, March 20th at 10:26PM EST (link)Those of you who think that the Democrats are going to be worse off this fall after passing this bill are sorely mistaken. I understand that you all are 100% against this bill, but don’t you think that Democrats would be in much worse shape if their base was depressed and disheartened after failing to pass legislation that they strongly care about? I just don’t see the logic in saying that passing this bill will make things worse for Obama.
I still think it’s clear that Democrats are going to have a very tough time hanging on to seats this fall, and likely the house will be taken over by Republicans. But passing this bill gives them something to run on, something to say they accomplished, whether you like it or not.
If Republicans end up being right about premiums promptly skyrocketing after passage, then perhaps things really will be disastrous for the Dems. But if people start to be able to get coverage that they couldn’t get before via the elimination of discrimination regarding pre-existing conditions or if premiums fall, you might be looking at a different picture. Either way, if they do nothing, they are toast. I think more and more Dem’s are realizing this, and it’s probably a large factor in why it will likely pass tomorrow.
Yeah Skippy, that explains their 17% approval rating.

Catepillar has sent out a very strong warning shot of what will happen in our economy with the passage of this bill and the IMMEDIATE effect of the higher taxes on business….more lay-offs and less new hires. They were not the only company that let Congress know what was going to happen…just the only one that the media covered. Every company that has to lay-off and will not be hiring has this bill for cover…the Dems will own every job lost for the next seven months!

Along with the comments of the others here, jeff 0175,
janis (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 10:51PM EST (link)you apparently haven’t heard that the “benefits” of this plan don’t start until 2013 or 2014. So you’re not going to see any people getting coverage that they couldn’t get before. You’re going to see people being taxed like they haven’t been before. You think that’s a winning item, do you?
The Dems are toast anyway because nobody likes cheaters, liars, and thieves, and that’s what they have proven themselves to be. Why don’t you check with Ben Nelson and his wife about just how popular they are in Nebraska these days?
Here's the deal, jeff_0175
Jack_Savage (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 11:15PM EST (link)The only people who are for this bill are the core Democrat constituency whose worthless rear ends are continuing to ride the wagon that we are all busy pulling. They would vote Democrat if the Dem running were dead, taken to a taxedermist, stuffed and screwed to a seat in congress with a smile painted on his face. They are that worthless, and that stupid. So what. Obama, Pelosi and Reid keep that vote. Those of us who have managed to make good decisions are the ones who will have our coverage and earnings confiscated, and we are the ones who are white hot pissed off.
Dems are following Dear Leader off a cliff. No one in their right mind believes that 1) Insuring 30 million more people will save money 2) Turning things over to the government will improve them 3) This entitlement will cost the same or less as the CBO says it will.
Obama has painted his party into a box. No matter how they vote, unless they are in 100% black districts or in San Fransisco, they are now vulnerable.
The only question is whether they will take the entire country down with them in some sort of warped Mutual Assured Destruction tactic.
You Gotta Have A JOB to Pay for Health Insurance!
audax (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 1:56AM EST (link)Everything, EVERYTHING! Obama and the Dems are doing INSURES FUTURE UNEMPLOYMENT GROWTH!!! What will unemployment look like in Nov? What will the economy look like in Nov? Yeah economic numbers always look rosy when the economy is truely growing and not growing because Obama and the Dems INFLATED it UP! Where will the TRILLIONS come from to pay for Obama and the Dems BIG GOVERNMENT?? 2 places. 1.) government borrowing (squeeing private business out of the capital markets and increasing unemployment and 2.) printing more money, A LOT MORE MONEY and causing inflation. Most of the ecnomic growth we have been seeing this year is INFLATION induced growth.
Lets not forget energy. Obama and the dems have done NOTHING to increase base energy production. Nothing to increase oil production AND their gambit on American natural gas independence is to SHUT DOWN fracturing! What happens when inflation takes hold? Well, dollars become worth less….so oil producing countries want more dollars to pay for each barrel of oil….and viola…the dollar price of oil goes UP!…and when the dollar price of oil goes UP! so do gasoline prices! What will the price of a gallon of gasoline cost on 2nd November 2010? on election day November 2012?

jeff_0175 Saturday, March 20th at 11:16PM EST (link)As far as I’m concerned, most of those in government these days are cheaters and liars, republicans included. I am hoping there are a few left who do care about the people they represent, and I don’t doubt that there are a few democrats AND republicans who fall into this category.
I don’t want to see small businesses excessively taxed. As I understand it, state based exchanges and federal subsides will have the potential to reduce costs up to 50% for small businesses that already offer coverage. That is supposed to be one of the first effects of the bill.
The pre-existing condition language also starts this year.
This is according to Christian Science Monitor:
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2010/0320/Health-care-reform-bill-101-How-long-will-reform-take
Just saying, there are people will start to notice some positive effects this year. If the plan fails and the taxes you describe start to cripple businesses or individuals – they will outweigh any positives, and Dems will pay for it at the polls.
Re: Along with the comments of the others here, jeff 0175,
jeff_0175 Saturday, March 20th at 11:21PM EST (link)my mistake – those with pre-existing conditions get to enroll in some kind of temporary national high-risk insurance plan this year. jeff_0175 Saturday, March 20th at 11:50PM EST (link)Well, I’ll just give you one: because it could be you or a loved one who some day finds themselves with a condition that makes heath insurers want to drop you.
I get the argument that we shouldn’t have to pay for those who put themselves in poor health situations, but the problem is that health isn’t necessarily directly determined by how you choose to live your life. Disease can strike anyone at any time. Getting more people covered will help make the country collectively healthier, making us a stronger nation with the GOAL of driving down the country’s healthcare costs. I have my doubts that this bill will get us there, but something needs to be done.
Did you read the health care bill there Skippy? They do want to drop me.

I’m one of the hard hearted Conservatives. I would hope those people have families, whose responsibility caring for them is. Churches, local organizations, charities, they are all options, I gladly support charities, organizations I belong to raise money every year for several of them. It is not the government’s place to assign responsibilities like these to its citizens or to spend our tax money on them.

Jeff, additional information for you...
Sheet Anchor (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 11:48PM EST (link)Jeff, if you really would like credible analysis of the health care proposals go here:
http://www.heritage.org/Initiatives/Health-Care
This organization is one of the best on the planet. They anaylyze all major legislative proposals including assessing the CBO data whenever it is released. The reason I suggest them to you is because if you have not been studying thiis matter, it is not something to be seriously explained in a venue like this. People here have already studied the matter extensively, and thus can categorically refute statements such as “the Bill is budget neutral” or “the Bill reduces the deficit,” statements often stated as fact but they are not. Of course, you can also look at the CBO data by going to their site and reviewing their analysis which is always thorough but rarely presented in full by the media. In addition, you have to be aware that the CBO only responds to request based on the information given to them by legislators. This is why they always explain in detail the vast assumptions corresponding to their assessments.
In short, I can state categorically that this Bill will cut Medicare $400 billion, increase the deficit at least $237 billion, and cost at least $2.3 trillion over 10 years, at at time when the US is already $12 trillion in debt, running $1 trillion average annual deficits over the next 10 years, and by 2019 willl be paying interest on the deficit of over $800 billion a year. This will bankrupt the country. It is financial and economic madness. And the foregoing does not include the unfunded liability for social securiity, medicare, and medicaid, which are already bankrupt. People forget that any time the Government spends money it has to take it from somebody who earned it. In our case, it’s individuals who work and earn income, and businesses who employ them. The problem with socialized medicine is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.
Health care costs problems can easily be fixed without destroying the country. Here’s how in short form:
1. Interstate competition among the nation’s 1,300 health insurance companies
2. Expansion of health savings accounts
3. Tort reform
4. Create “risk pools” for high risks patients with no denials of coverage
5. Create heath insurance purchase pooling for small businesses
6. Allow insurance companies to sell catastrophic insurance plans
Sorry but I do not have time to go into detail on all of these almost no-cost solutions to the nation’s health care problem. But Heritage has already done all of the analysis on these and other reasonable solutions.
Please observe that none of us likes the cost of health care, and that all of us want everyone to have health insurance who wants it. But, you don’t destroy the heath program for 85% of the people for the sake of the other 15%. You solve the problem for the other 15%, without negatively impacting the 85%. I do hope you visit Heritage.

It took years and the deaths of thousands of innocents to realize we were wrong. Yet, many of our “intelligentsia” still runs with old notions, because like old slippers, they fit comfortably.
Seriously, do any of you really believe the Middle East terrorist problem is linked to the Palestinians? Really?
Also, do you really think the vote on healthcare, going on right now, is down to one vote? One? With all the drama, all the problems, all the anger, one vote? It is like watching professional wrestling. All show. You would think a plan that taxes people for four years without one benefit seen would be poison for normal politicians. That experience will make a lot of people really angry for a long time, so why do it that way to solve their claim of a “healthcare emergency?” We all know now.
My suggestion is simple- Stop. Stop. Stop. Quit assuming this or that, quit trying to justify or reason out why they are doing what they are doing by using “what I’d do in this situation is…” bull. Just stop. Take a breath and realize two things; 1. You aren’t them. 2. They are not operating by any set of values or principles you would either recognize or approve of, period. It is just that simple. They do what they do because they can. You let them or maybe you just can’t stop them anymore. In society, momentum matters. (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain that to the victims of a crime. Criminals don’t make it personal most of the time; they are just feeding on those who can’t protect themselves. The radical left sees you the same way- you are food for their agenda.)
Once again let me remind you what I’ve been saying all along and what explains why Jews climbed up on cattle cars in Germany taking them to their deaths, why Chinese dutifully re-located to factories instead of staying on their farms while starving, why it took generations before the honest anti-war protesters from Vietnam realized they were duped-
“The hardest part of being inside a revolution is one of perspective. You simply cannot get far away enough to see the whole picture!”
The people in charge of this effort know this. They have known this since Lenin and Mao. They studied it, practiced it, refined it, and planned around it. They know. It is you all that have trouble realizing how bad it is. It’s not your fault, you are good people, trying to live a good life and raise good children. But confusion and chaos lead to defeat. As long as they keep you chasing your tail, they’ll beat you- every time.
There are so many different moving parts at so many different levels in this effort that you simply can’t keep up, especially if you bog yourself down with old concepts. Even my MENSA bright buddy suffers from this. At some point he simply locks up when trying to describe why they are doing what they are doing. He claimed early one the left can’t govern. Yet, as we approach the vote today, I find he is right and wrong. They cannot govern, but they can rule by threat and intimidation quite effectively. There would be no way this gets through if any normal rules of politics were in play. Maybe it gets defeated, but even if it does it won’t go away.
So, you have two choices. One, remain in your comfort zone and remain confused and ineffective. Two, start to think like a revolutionary and react accordingly.
Do you think that you can win by keeping to the old rules if people like this are in charge of your future?
http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/03/20/alcee-hastings-sees-no-problem-in-breaking-the-law-he-shouldnt-as-a-judge-he-was-impeached-for-doing-the-same-thing/
Alcee Hastings is talking about the rules. Here is his quote- “We make them up as we go along.” Hastings just told you that while you all are running around on the field, doing your level best to stay inbounds; he and his buddies are jumping outside the lines and scoring by cutting through the cheerleaders and past the Gatorade table!
He is not alone. The entire group driving this agenda has been following that one rule for two generations. Why do you think your kids are poorly educated? It really isn’t that hard to teach kids the basics, like our nation is a democratic republic and can only survive if its citizens are well informed and willing to sacrifice and do their duty to the following generation. No it is not. I learned it, my dad learned it, and some of you learned it. But not anymore. Why? It was not by accident.
In addition, the left also learned a very valuable lesson from Florida in 2000. Since then they have positioned key players in state offices that will ensure any close election will be turned in favor their democratic candidate, both at the state level and the federal level. Norm Coleman lost because he tried to play by the old rules and the democrats in Minnesota didn’t. Obama was elected with money that came from places we all know were suspect but because he won we will never know who, where or how. In Washington, a close race was turned in favor of a candidate with a hand recount that “discovered” enough ballets in favor of the democratic candidate so that she won.
Here is Wiki’s link with a fairly accurate account. It was a lot dirtier.

I’m not going to beat a dead horse here. But the sooner you all stop thinking that we live in a cleanly operated Democratic Republic immune from revolution and corruption, the better for all of us. I suggest you get a piece of paper and a pencil and ask yourself “What would it take to create the environment where Obama could win again, and again, and again?”
Remember, Obama is either one of two things. A cardboard cutout that is being used by a group dead set on undermining this nation forever (and they are darned near that goal) or a man who is willing to do what it takes to remain in power for a long, long time. Either answer is bad. If he is the former then he’ll be kicked to the side of the road by his own people when his negatives get so bad he hurts them. And he’ll happily do it, because as the first black President, especially if during his term he manages to push through an FDR styled program, he’ll go on a circuit that will make him very, very rich and guarantee him and his family a place in the upper strata of America’s new government/public sector for years to come.
If he is the latter, well just remember what Hastings said, “We make the rules up as we go along.”
Read the book.
As long as we don't become "them"
kmacwayne (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 11:14AM EST (link)I agree that we are faced with an opposition that is rule less – however if we endeavor to “fight their way” – doesn’t that make us just as devious? Wouldn’t we be selling off a part of ourselves to delve into nefarious behavior such as theirs? And if we did, wouldn’t that come back to define us as “them”?
“Turn the Other Cheek” refers to making your attacker use their open hand to slap you ( a thing considered unseemly in Biblical Times) It means to expose them for who they are – force them to play their hand and let the world decide who’s camp they will cheer.
I sense that our eyes have been opened to the corruption we’ve allowed to creep in around us. By now both parties, democrats and republicans have been through some upsetting, eye opening years. We are ALL dismayed at the governance of our country.
They win by continuing to keep us in a frenzy of one kind or another, however, these episodes wake more and more sleeping giants each time they appear. They are clearly exposing themselves to the point there is no denying their behavior.
The goal it seems to me, would be to shine light on the truth of their actions – If President Obama craves that “light” – we must do everything we can to expose it, until all those who are blind can see.
It will never be “too late” as God has created us to live according to His will, not ours.
The LORD looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually;
He considers all their works.
16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Psalm 33
kmacwayne- And that is exactly what they expect you to do. They win.
archer52 Sunday, March 21st at 12:49PM EST (link)In all due respect your response is exactly what I’m talking about. You are very correct in your approach, and you’ll be the guy that gets eaten by the zombies in the first wave of attack. They expect you to react this way. They expect you to take the high road. And before we get too far down the road here, “THEY” aren’t some kind of secret society. “THEY” are members in both parties, most teachers at most levels of education, union leaders, generational welfare recipients (including SSI, welfare, medicare, medicaid, on and on, all beholden to anyone who will continue to pay them), government workers, certain media organizations and personalities. Even some of our own citizens fall on the other side of this debate. Usually out of greed, fear or ignorance, but they are still on the other side. I just finished reading a long article, one of many, about how much certain elements of the Catholic Church have swerve left by calling for “social justice” as biblical mandate.
So who are we trying to impress with all the light shining and cheek turning? They know what is going on. If they don’t know the details by now, they will never care enough to learn them.
All of you who have visited my site or read my comments know I am a firm believer in the 90/10 rule. We are seeing it here. A small band of highly motivated people are and have been driving this nation towards at least socialism, if not worse. Another small percentage- you included- are actively trying to stop them. The vast majority in the middle may care but they aren’t going to do anything about it until, for the lack of a better example, the red coats are actually standing on THEIR doorstep. It is human nature.
Honestly, have we not, all of us, marched, called, protested, blogged, wrote, talked to friends, tried to persuade other citizens, made signs, and held vigils? What happened? Did Obama get elected? Yes. Did crazy Pelosi become the head of the House? Yes. Are there still people inside the administration that are so left FDR’s old cabinet is sitting up from their graves and saying “DAAA**M!” Most definitely yes.
We all know this is the most leftist/socialist/communist type of administration we’ve seen in our nation in its entire history. The sixties has grown up and squatted in the White House. Add to them the zealots, ideologues and the cold and calculating people like Soros who hate the nation and want nothing more than to crush us into at least a second if not third rate world power and you have some serious challenges ahead.
Why healthcare? Well, beyond the obvious control of every aspect of your life, your mobility, your retirement, your constitutional rights, it will provide others with a side effect that is very advantageous to them. It is something I realized a long time ago, but many people miss. Name the nation saddled with the debt of socialized medicine that can field a substantial military? An up to date, mobile, well armed, well manned military?
Turning the other cheek may not be enough nor will shining any light. We’ve played by the rules and managed to jam up their agenda. What did they do? They broke the rules in order to get by our genteel manner of debate and dissent.
They are all not monsters. Some truly believe they are doing the right thing by turning our nation into a European statist government. Of course they do not intend to be on the bottom of that inverted pyramid. They intend to make sure they and their kids will be safely secured at the top. You are going to be the drone. As will your kids and your kids’ kids.
Man has been fighting this battle in one form or another since the beginning. It is just our turn in the barrel. I do not promote violence. It serves no purpose and as a former officer who had more than his fill of crowds fighting each other and ending up swinging at me, I know only the cop on the street catches that brunt of the violence. But civil disobedience? Continued political pressure, States refusal to comply? Absolutely.
Frankly, a large crowd of rowdy people chasing a few politicians while screaming “HE** NO! WE WON’T GO!” over and over would be too funny! Can you imagine some of those left over sixties types panicking thinking they were having a LSD flashback?
It worked for them. Just saying…

It's not 1996 in 2012
theboges Monday, March 22nd at 2:20PM EST (link)In addition to his tack to the right, Clinton also had repeat third-party candidate Ross Perot syphoning GOP votes away (sound familiar: “Hope & Change”?), although weakened from 1992 when he made a personal crusade to defeat GHWB, and a wuss as an opponent. Dole was a throwaway and a “loyalty payback” for his years of service to the GOP.
Watch to see if the Tea-Party throws a third-party candidate into the fray. That would really assure BHO’s reelection.
As a Tea Party member...
soljerblue Tuesday, March 23rd at 6:16AM EST (link)I have argued and discussed quite often that a Third Party is absolutely NOT the way to go if we really intend to change the stripe of the ruling class in DC. Third parties in the US — or should I now say USS — accomplish little other than to throw the election to the wrong person. Perfect example — besides Ross Perot in our time — TR’s Bull Moose Party in 1912. TR regretted stepping down in 1909 for his hand picked successor, William Howard Taft. In truth, all Taft really wanted was to be Chief Justice of the US, but TR persuaded him to run. After three years, TR — dissatisfied with Taft, and unhappy that he hadn’t run for a third term himself, formed the Bull Moose party, which split the Republican vote and threw the election to Wilson.
Interesting aside — I have often wondered, and occasionally argued, that IF TR had actually been elected in 1914, the U.S. would have gone to war against the Central Powers much earlier than 1917 — most likely after the Lusitania was sunk in 1915.
Ooops!
soljerblue Tuesday, March 23rd at 6:19AM EST (link)I meant to say, if TR had actually been elected in 19-TWELVE, not 1914. I do know better.
On the other hand
awunsch Monday, March 22nd at 10:12PM EST (link)If the republicans play it right, Obama will have to veto resulting in one of two outcomes. The people will vote him back in but give the republicans in congress the 2/3 majority they need to override him or they will vote in a republican president as well. However, after seeing what the dems did this year, it is hard to see the people wanting to vote in a republican pres and congress. Of course the people didn’t pay attention to what then Sen Obama was really about or they would not have voted in a radical socialist or progressive. Nothing like hope and change. I also don’t think that it has sunk in to the public mind that, yes it was on Bush’s watch, but it has been a democrat congress since the 2006 election. Too bad Pres Bush didn’t use the veto pen.
