Why Not Help It Pass?

Tom Harkin, Barack Obama, and assorted left-wing activists are asking a simple question this week as if it is the most profound question ever asked:

“If Republicans are so sure passing health care reform will doom the Democrats in November, why not help them pass it?”

If you ask this question without any sense of irony, you have so far removed yourself from reality that we might need to commit you.

Let me ask it another way — if the Democrats were so sure the War in Iraq would doom Republicans, why not go all in and help escalate the war?

Because lives are at stake? Is that why? Well, same with the GOP helping the Democrats pass health care. We don’t want the blood on our hands.

We will not help pass bad legislation just because it helps us politically. There are greater things at stake such as freedom, individual liberty, and the American ideal. The free market system should be above politics.

The GOP will not help the Democrats pass health care reform because passing health care reform will mean destroying the country. And that is not hyperbole, that is a fact.

Obama is a fracking retard

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 1:23PM EST (link)

I mean that term in the same fine and political sense Rahm Emanuel means.

All you people running around, including those on the right, who claim Obama is very intelligent if somewhat over-idealistic and misguided, to you I say BS.

Show me his transcripts (oops), show me a few of his college papers (oops), show me something he wrote for Harvard Law Review (oops). Or even anything he wrote himself, like his memoirs or autobiography (oops). Or for that matter anything intelligent he has said.

I’d settle for clever.

Anyone?

He’s a fracking doofus. And now he’s “daring” Republicans to cut off their noses to spite their face, in order to “trick” one or two of them into signing on to his health care takeover.

Retard.

but he thinks like a typical lefty in the leadership cadre. He has not really associated with anyone who lives or thinks differently from him since probably high school. He is a foreigner in most of America because he has never been to most of America and has never had any contact with Americans other than those from the academic and poltical left and the poverty pimps and race hustlers he associated with in his role as a community organizer and lefty lawyer and machine pol.

People like Comrade Obama are so convinced to their superiority that they NEVER think about what the opposition will do. When AFSCME, which uses professional staff with much the same backgound and experience as Comrade Obama, came to Alaska I was astounded by how little they knew or cared about how the State worked, who was who, where the real power was. They had a set of fixed assumptions about us and proceeded on those assumptions. Since most of those assumptions were wrong they took a disasterous course and we made them pay dearly. Had we not had a Democrat governor, we would have destroyed them. When the Democrat didn’t win in ’90, they faced four years of hostility from an AIP/Republican Administration but they did have a contract that covered them for the first year of it. I was likewise astounded by how unprepared they were in negotiations and even in grievance arbitrations and labor board hearings. They never seemed to have given any thought to what the employer would do, never adequately prepared their witnesses, and yet seemed shocked every time they lost, blaming their losses on biased arbitrators or labor board panels and the general unfairness of being pitted against the big, bad employer. Hell, their lowest paid BA made more than my commissioner, we had a total professional staff of 5 in those days, and they were just one of 13 unions we had to deal with. And believe me, the last thing any Republican Administration wants to do is be associated with all the controversy that surrounds a labor relations office so we had an awful time getting support or funding while they constantly told us to “git ‘em.”

What happened when they did get a bought and paid for administration in ’94 was they managed to get the State to emulate them. When I came back in ’00, my staff was a bunch of kids who didn’t know anything about the State or about the operations they werre supposed to support and defend. They would work out elaborate scenarios for putting on hearings, write out all their questions, and not be able to react at all when the opposition did something other than what they’d planned.

I’ve been to lots of training and workshops around the Country and knew most of my peers heading State labor relations functions and they’re all the same; it is just the academic/union/lefty mindset. We regular Americans aren’t human and really arent worthy of their consideration. But don’t tell them that the Nazis thought that well too!

“Glorious Leader Gap: President Barack Obama – Not So Bright for a Harvard Law Grad”

* Obama’s over dependence on his teleprompter.
* Obama’s boring performances in his now discontinued press conferences.
* Obama’s factual errors during his confrontation with Republicans at their retreat.
* Obama’s indecisiveness and general slowness in figuring out how to respond to his commanders’ requests for additional troops in Afghanistan.
* Obama’s try and fail approach to winning the Olympic Games for Chicago, his useless trip to China, and his fruitless visit to Copenhagen on behalf of the cause of anthropomorphic global warming.
* Obama’s unwillingness to contribute an article to the Harvard Law Review while he served as its first African-American president.
* Obama’s reluctance to compete for a tenure track job at the University of Chicago Law School and the fact that he never submitted articles to peer-reviewed law journals.

usa2day (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 6:47AM EST (link)

This letter appeared in the Indianapolis Star (which is owned by the same people who own the Arizona Republic) and was sent to a very popular Indiana Senator.

An Indianapolis doctor’s letter to Sen. Bayh about the Bill (Note: Dr. Stephen E. Frazer, MD practices as an anesthesiologist in Indianapolis, IN.) Here is a letter I sent to Senator Bayh.. Feel free to copy it and send it around to all other representatives. –
Stephen Frazer

Senator Bayh,

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the
patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.

I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!

Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.

Page 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS RATIONED!!!

Page 42 of HC Bill: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC benefits for you. You have no choice!

Page 50 Section 152 in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.

Page 145 Line 15-17: An Employer MUST auto-enroll employees into public option plan. (NO choice!)

Page 126 Lines 22-25: Employers MUST pay for HC for part-time employees ANDtheir families. (Employees shouldn’t get excited about this as employers will be forced to reduce its work force, benefits, and wages/salaries to cover such a huge expense.)

Page 335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339: The Govt mandates

way they want — rationing.)

Page 341 Lines 3-9: The Govt has authority to

(Forcing people into the Govt plan)

Page 354 Sec 1177: The Govt will RESTRICT enrollment
of ‘special needs people!’ Unbelievable!

Page 379 Sec 1191: The Govt creates more bureaucracy
via a “Tele-Health Advisory Committee.” (Can you

Page 425 Lines 4-12: The Govt mandates “Advance-Care

(Sounds like Soylent Green to me.)

Page 427 Lines 15-24: The Govt mandates a program
for orders on “end-of-life.” (The Govt has a say
in how your life ends!)

Page 429 Lines 1-9: An “advanced-care planning

ORDER TO DIE FROM THE GOVERNMENT?!?)

Page 429 Lines 13-25: The GOVT will specify which
doctors can write an end-of-life order.. (I wouldn’t want
to stand before God after getting paid for THAT job!)

Page 430 Lines 11-15: The Govt will decide what
level of treatment you will have at end-of-life!
(Again — no choice!)

Page 469: Community-Based Home Medical Services =
Non-Profit Organizations. (Hello? ACORN Medical
Services here!?!)

Page 489 Sec 1308: The Govt will cover marriage and
family therapy. (Which means Govt will insert
itself into your marriage even.)

Page 494-498: Govt will cover Mental Health Services
including defining, creating, and rationing those services.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do

you and your colleagues are debating.

Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces

ObamaCare, Cap and Tax, and Amnesty. Yeah, we’ll score points in 2010, maybe 2012, on those issues. But once those seeds are planted they will ensure Democratic majorities for decades in not generations. Its time conservatives detached themselves from the GOP and their election to election strategies and necesseties and started fighting the long march.

I don't buy this for a minute.

Simple Answer: 'We put this Country Above Politics'

racebannon (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 1:38PM EST (link)

I mean really, if they are stupid enough to ask such a cynical question, then the response talking points are pretty straightforward:

- “This isn’t about winning elections. It’s about what’s right for America.”

- “Is that all you think about – the next election? That is no way to lead, no way to govern, and no way to serve the people who have trusted us with the direction of this country.”

- “Wow. Is that all you’re thinking about – what will win you the next election? No wonder you’ve lost the confidence of the American people.”

- “That question is all people need to know about your motivations: You’re concerned with the next election. We’re concerned with what the American people want for the next generation.”

- “We’re focused on what’s right for the future of this country. Not what’s going to win the next election. (But if that’s how you want to serve…)”

- “Our job is not to keep our seats in the next election. Our job is to keep America great for the next generation.”

ObamaCare trashes both Dems AND U.S.

fpete13527 (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 2:14PM EST (link)

The GOP has faults, but at least they are clear that the most important thing here is that ObamaCare not pass… which would destroy the country.

If the decision was purely political, the GOP probably would let it pass because they are absolutely CLEAR that the bill is devastatingly bad for the Dems. Unlike Obama, and many Dems, however, the GOP DOES love this country THE WAY IT IS!! Also, the GOP DOES support and love the Constitution THE WAY IT IS..

Obama, however, has now made it BLATENTLY clear that he does NOT like this country the way it is and that he does NOT like the Constitution. This explains WHY Obama has no problem using ObamaCare to destroy the country along with trashing any Dem who supports the country the way it is.

It appears though that there are emerging more Dems who DO support the country and the Constitution…AS IS…and that they will do the responsible thing and vote NO to ObamaCare.

Obama doesn’t care if the Dems are trashed… temporarily or forever. He simply wants to ensure the ruination of the country and the Constitution and the emergence of Statism/Communism in place of freedom.

I am clear that the country is not going to let him do that.

I'm concerned...

…that a lot of posters believe that if this passes, it’s over for America. In my view, the fight has just begun. We would only have lost a battle. The way back, though, will be clear. There won’t be any fuzziness as to where we want to steer the country or what kind of leader we will rally around. This debate has been terrifically clarifying–for us and for most of the American public.

the major social welfare program that was ever rolled back to ensure personal responsibility and personal liberties, and I’ll buy your premise.

With that said, IMO, we need to shed all socialist programs like Social Security and Medicare and get back to the basics. I’ve been a lifelong Republican and conservative, but am deeply saddened as the “right” has been redefined again and again and moved much more to that of centrist and even at times – leftist politics.

If health care passes and stands the court challenges (and honestly Iwill not hold my breath on that one) the party of Lincoln and Reagan will not act in the interests, as a whole, of the people of this country nor it’s Constitution. We need more men and women of principle ,character and steel to fix this. I don’t see this in or national character, especially the young. We handed our system of education over to “educators” and the state.

I’m hopeful we as a nation will wake up, but not optimistic

"...program that was ever rolled back"

edintexas Monday, March 15th at 4:10PM EST (link)

Not just social welfare, any program. The Telephone Excise Tax was repealed – almost 100 years after the reason for it – to pay for the Spanish-American War. But then again the Clinton FCC simply replaced it with a “fee” which is a percentage of your telephone bill. Oh yes, that was to hook schools up to the internet – at a time when 97% of all schools were already “hooked up”.

If it passes the only thing which will eliminate it will be violent revolution (I’m not having an optimistic week this week).

These Dems are showing themselves now, which is great. They used to hide what they actually believed and now they just go out full force with their crap because they think the media has their back. Luckily, there are many EDUCATED people out here now that know what’s going on. The liberal base is a very scary thing – it consists of two types of people – the ignorant and the evil.

Misoverestimation

msctex (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 4:47PM EST (link)

If we assume what the Democrats have to offer would be akin to what we would offer were we they — functional, legal and able to withstand attack — then yes, we have an enormous problem. But these people are not constrained by any sort of standards short of the desperate, flailing attempt itself. They haven’t voted yet for a reason. Not only do they not have the votes, who is to say they have a Bill in hand at all? Has anyone seen it? Read it? What if they are actually that far gone? Would it be that surprising, given the events (and lack thereof) of the past month or two?

Were they to succeed in passing this legislation, the damage would be potentially be enormous. But there are roadblocks they have not even begun to consider, on top of those already dragging out this already interminable process.
