Erick, I heard you say
4life (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 8:10PM EST (link)this week that you think Mitch Daniels should be President. Have you met him? Just wondering. I was thinking about Indiana and that he has a budget surplus even though the state has lost lots of it’s manufacturing base. That is quite an accomplishment!
I am a Mitch fan
youthgrunt (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 9:28PM EST (link)though not necessarily for President. But what you point out is the absolute best thing that he has done for this state. He has resolutely said since the first day that he took office that Indiana must have a balanced budget. He will be criticized for cutting education spending. But he has managed to not cut the education spending until the current crisis which is simply due to a lack of revenue because of the economic climate.

Cindy Sheehan: No Church For You !
“Although Mrs. Sheehan is well-known for her anti-war stance against the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, she also supports positions that are contrary to Church teaching regarding life and marriage issues,” a statement posted Friday on the diocesan Web site said.
Sheehan was scheduled to appear April 9 at St. John the Evangelist Church hall on Fig Street in Scranton.

(Part of Ms. Sheehan’s comments next.)
“Whenever they do something like this, they just call more attention to the hypocrisy of their positions,” she said. “To me, it’s more like they want to protect the unborn than they want to protect the people who are already born.”

I’m honestly surprised she didn’t blame he banning on President Bush by name.

Jim DeMint for Leader
Daniel Horowitz (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 8:12PM EST (link)OK Erick I’ve been waiting for an open thread to ask you this. What is the point in taking back the Senate if we have guys like McConnel in charge. Is there anyway you can get Jim DeMint to run for Leader?
I agree
nancylee Saturday, March 13th at 8:30PM EST (link)McConnel has all the spine of a wet noodle. From what I read (on one of the blogs) when the Senate Republicans were “fighting” the healthcare bill, they originally intended to lodge their objections but let it pass, in order to gain a lot of seats in November, until DeMint and a bunch of bloggers called them on it. Up until then DeMint was fighting practically single-handed, or so I heard. I admit the story might not be complete, but if true, that isn’t the kind of leadership the Senate Republicans need. When is McConnel up for re-election? And until then, he needs to be kept aware that the rest of us are watching him like a hawk to be sure he doesn’t pull some other weaselly little trick like that.
I wonder
avgjo (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 8:38PM EST (link)how many of the people who protested this to the Dems put fire under McConnell’s feet to resist?
I would suspect not many.
Ceterum autem censeo, Obamaecuram esse delendam.
I have said this over and over since the time
Bill Saturday, March 13th at 9:17PM EST (link)Trent Lott was the “Majority Leader”. Lott didn’t have any gonads, Frist turned out to be a spineless weasel with no gonads. Now, we have McConnell who has grown up in the same old “good ole boys club”. Whether it is DeMint or someone else, we need a person with a stiff spine, not afraid of the Main Stream Media and the Washington elites and their criticisms and the cruxification they will try to perform and who can look into the camera’s eye and speak to John and Mary six-pack and all citizens in language that is simple and understandable. Then, by all means necessary explain what a bunch of rotten crooks live in this place called our Legislative Branch and how they are destroying our country with their cheap tricks of breaking our country. Explain it with easily understood examples and keep pounding the message, WITHOUT FEAR and WITH GREAT COURAGE. It wouldn’t help to have a Speaker in the House with the same traits and convictions. There are people like this out there, but how do you convince them to step into the fire for us?
Thank God! November 3, 2010. U.S. House, GOP 290, DEM 145; U.S. Senate, GOP 70, DEM 28, IND 2. Keep on praying!
Is DeMint the guy?
writeblock Saturday, March 13th at 9:42PM EST (link)I know he’s right on the issues. But is he mean enough? I want somebody tough in there like Rudy. A streetfighter. There are not enough of them in the GOP. Most come from more laid-back parts of the country where courtliness counts. I don’t dislike men like McConnell or Hatch.or Grassley. But they are relics of a bygone age. We’re now in an all-out war. Different times call for different tactics.
Who else?
aesthete (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 2:51AM EST (link)DeMint is a nice guy, but he also pushed for a more aggressive strategy on opposing HCR. He also rolled out his own healthcare plan, which was more than what McConnell did, and what should have been done by Republicans as a group to counteract the substance-less “party-of-no” claim. If you want soemone who’s a conservative and a jerk, nominate Bunning
. DeMint has results, is aggressive in the Senate, and is constructively and realistically conservative: I don’t know of anyone currently in Congress who could do better as Majority Leader (except maybe a Senator Flake… but that’s another story).
The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice – G.K. Chesterton
If the GOP DOES Retake the Senate
youthgrunt (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 9:25PM EST (link)It will be in large part due to DeMint’s efforts. It may not be unreasonable to think that he would be the one to win the Majority Leader position with whatever the new blood is that comes in.
I like and respect DeMint.
nancylee Saturday, March 13th at 11:01PM EST (link)He reminds me strongly of Ronald Reagan in many ways, specifically in his values and convictions — and considering that it was he that was single-handedly trying to hold the line in the Senate when McConnel and the others weren’t, I’d say he’s got the necessary guts.
I was in my 30s when Reagan was President, and he proved to me that you don’t have to be aggressive and mean to win. All you need are principles, assertiveness and the willingness to stand up for your convictions. DeMint has all that. I wish he were my senator. Instead I’m stuck with Boxer and Feinstein. Yuk.
Stop that crazy talk
Adjoran (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 5:44AM EST (link)As Majority/Minority Leader, a Senator has to put his own personal agenda to the side for the most part and concentrate on the needs of the Party in the Senate. That is what the job is, and no one should think of taking it if they can’t do that.
DeMint is far more valuable as the lone voice of conservative reason, now that he has found his voice. He’s my Senator, and has risen to my expectations when I supported him in the primary. He’s only now completing his first term and is already a nationally recognized conservative leader.
We need Jim DeMint to keep being himself, not trying to herd the cats as Leader.

writeblock Saturday, March 13th at 9:17PM EST (link)It would openly defy the Constitution. Lawyers are preparing their briefs right now to bring this before the Supreme Court.
Whom the gods will destroy they first make mad.
Be careful what you wish for
bk (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 8:15AM EST (link)The Supreme Court will be loathe to jump in. First there will be a huge “standings” hurdle, and then you most likely end up with a catch-22: They’ll say it’s moot until signed into law, after which it becomes moot because there’s no way they’ll undo it. And in any case it would depend on the whims of Anthony Kennedy even if all those hurdles were overcome.
The Dems lost the debate
texasgalt (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 8:40PM EST (link)Now they seek to impose their cramdown by any means. The left is out of ideas. Pretense is gone. They don’t intend to govern. They are going to rule

So the Donks tho put on their brass knuckles. and are ready to govern or “rule” from the first second of the term. Not our guys.
And if it turns out as I suspect that their is some life there, they do a terrible job of publicizing it.
Constitutional Crisis
popdaddy Saturday, March 13th at 9:13PM EST (link)If I understand all the information posted on this blog and other sources the last few days correctly:
The leadership of the Socialist Democrat Party that controls the House of Representatives plans to bet they have 216 elected members sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America who are willing to vote for a “bill” that they all will know to be unconstitutional.
God help us all.
You betcha Popdaddy,
Bill Saturday, March 13th at 9:24PM EST (link)these Communists, Socialists, Liberal, Progressives who not control the Big 3 in Washington DC are trying to go around the Constitution which they believe is nothing but “negative rights” giving individual people freedom instead of giving all authority to the “State/Federal Governments” to rule over “we the people”.
Thank God! November 3, 2010. U.S. House, GOP 290, DEM 145; U.S. Senate, GOP 70, DEM 28, IND 2. Keep on praying!
They will do worse...
writeblock Saturday, March 13th at 9:27PM EST (link)…They will use a rule–the Slaughter rule–to avoid an up-or-down vote to pass the Senate bill, only “deeming” the bill has passed when the reconciliation bill has passed. There will have been no up-or-down vote on the original Senate bill–only an indirect acceptance contingent on amendments. At the same time the Dems will claim their amendments in no way have changed the original–thus obviating the need to return the original to the Senate to face a filibuster as a changed bill. In other words, they are trying to change a bill without claiming to change it. Incredible.
Bill / Rule
popdaddy Saturday, March 13th at 11:00PM EST (link)This Slaughter rule is what I referred to as a “bill”. Whatever they call it, 216 elected members of the Democrat Party sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America will be required to go on the record with a vote they will all know to be unconstitutional.

itsjoanne Saturday, March 13th at 10:38PM EST (link)He had that poll at his Senate Conservatives Fund regarding the Indiana Senate race which Marlin Stutzman won by a very large margin but there has been no endorsement yet.

RE: Comic - I exploded with laughter!
Born Again Capitalist (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 12:07AM EST (link)Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
All I want for Christmas (either a late gift from last year or an early one from next year) is for the Dems to use this thermo-nuclear option and for the SCOTUS to 9-0 strike it down the next day. My liberal colleagues would foam at the mouth like nothing I’ve ever seen. But give them a day – heck, even two – so they can gloat; it would make it that much sweeter when their (twisted) dream died at the hands of the SCOTUS.
Back to reality: let’s hope the thing never passes.
won't pay any notice to Supremes,,,
larryp Sunday, March 14th at 1:55AM EST (link)anyway it would be 5-4 maybe to scotch it…
The question is tho why not enact any of these excrement sandwicches by this Slaughter Fiat rule? Capn trade, Amnasty, Coal plant Scuttling, Martial law,
Rice-paddy relocation of GOPers?
It is all up for grabs.
I wonder if the Laws of the land have to be published in the Congressional Record and this bill has not been passed by the House, in a reality, does the CR have to accept it for publication? If legal notice must be given after signing by the President, and the CR rejects the notice, is it Law?
