There are many reasons the Republican Party is often referred to as the Stupid Party. Many Republicans thought that after the President overshadowed the GOP at their Baltimore retreat last month, going to Blair House yesterday would just be another PR disaster.
It was anything but.
The GOP won the day so convincingly that even the traditional media had to praise the party for talking issues.
Contrast that with Barack Obama who scowled, berated, lied, and harassed the attendees — not to mention filibustered them.
In the most ironic moment of the day, Barack Obama lectured Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor on having the Democrats’ 2,700+ page health care bill on his desk at the meeting. Obama called it a “prop.” At the same time, Democrats were in the newspapers admitting that, in effect, Barack Obama was using the GOP as a prop in a vain effort to show bipartisanship on health care.
There is bipartisanship on health care. There is bipartisan opposition to it. The Democrats must realize today that they would get nothing out of the meeting. They will now try to force health care deform through Congress on a majority vote in each house.
Only a couple of years ago, Barack Obama praised the filibuster claiming it was what the founding fathers wanted to prevent the tyranny of the majority. Now he is intent on ignoring the filibuster and ramming through health care deform.
If nothing else, today shows the American public that the Republicans have a better agenda, better ideas, and are willing to stand up and oppose a reckless scheme that will increase health care costs.

Does this mean it is ok to say it you are a Republican?
ilgop24 Thursday, February 25th at 11:04PM EST (link)Nice write up. I’m still waiting for the day that it is ok for conservatives to be Republicans
What I loved was the attempt
Cargosquid (Diary) Thursday, February 25th at 11:08PM EST (link)during Obama’s final monologue to paint the GOP as the obstruction to “progress” and that if HE sees serious attempts at bipartisanship, then they can go ahead, but if he DOESN’T, look out! Congress will just have to implement some steps…..
Like he’s the boss of Congress. He’s trying to hide the fact that its the Democrats that are holding things up.
What a conceited, arrogant, condescending, POS.
Instapundit reader nails it: Reader James Somers offers two ways to tell that the Dems lost the health care summit today:
If you look right now:
1. It’s not the lead headline on CNN.
2. It’s not the lead headline on the NYT.
If this had turned out the way it was supposed to, it would be leading both of those sites in 60 point font.
Petulance on display.
Bobcat51 Friday, February 26th at 1:00AM EST (link)Yes agree, Obama came across as very arrogant and now most of the country has had the opportunity to observe his petulant style on full display. One can only imagine how he operates behind closed doors with a room full of his faithful sycophants. It sure looked my way or the highway again (I won) ?
I thought I heard Obama reference elections in his summing up statement; am I correct in thinking this would be in relation to the November elections ?
If so, are we to take it that his comment was basically, I am going to pass the bill and you Democrats are going to vote for it even if it means most of you go down big time (sacrificed) in November for my disastrous bill. So once again it’s all about Obama’s monument to his over inflated ego and the destruction of the Democratic party for a generation.
I would also like to admit I was wrong about the meeting. I was full of trepidation at the Republicans attending after their prior session with Obama . Today they gave a good account of themselves and the country an alternative perspective of incremental safe health care reform..!
The left wing intent is to destroy the existing society and replace it with a society of its own design.
Obama said that if the Republicans
Scope (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 7:13AM EST (link)would not get on board with his crap, then “they” would have to go ahead and make some decisions. He added “that’s what elections are for.” He really doesn’t care if the Democrats are mostly all replaced in November. He is working hard to make Congress obsolete anyway. He has a crew of Czars to take their place.
oh, and he also has Executive Orders
Scope (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 7:15AM EST (link)to accomplish what he wants. Remember Rham is looking into how far he can go with EO’s.
I took it as a threat to Republicans,
Locked and Loaded (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 7:38AM EST (link)a very lame one, I might add. He could have just said, “We’ll roll the dice.”
His closing was steeped in desperation. In fact, I thought his comments rivaled Joe Biden’s in stupidity.
Certainly, any Dem should be able to see how they are being hung up for slaughter (but honestly, I can’t figure those people out). If they do come out of their stupor to see what they have become (Bayh?) – and Obama really does go nuts with the Executive Orders – maybe a post-November impeachment proceeding is not out of the question.

Bill Thursday, February 25th at 11:11PM EST (link)take place, has the CBO calculated the personnel costs of the additional federal government employees, bureaucrats, boards, panels, etc. and the “staffs for each” to do the work at or for the HHS? izoneguy (Diary) Thursday, February 25th at 11:12PM EST (link)Obama & the socialists don’t give a flip about lowering health care costs…..
This will be another socialist tax rip off for the next three years until all the socialists are run out of the US……they will be taking billions of your tax dollars in the name of saving you from the health insurance companies.
Who will save us from our abusive government?
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Is it just me…or did Obama, resting his head on his hand and index finger, looked like he was bored, almost annoyed?
It looked like he was thinking, “Oh, crap. This is as bad as spending an evening with Michelle.”

Obama to McCain was canned petulance
BA Cyclone (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 11:12AM EST (link)Definitely one of the most often replayed moments in the last 24 hours or so.
I got the distinct impression that Obama walked into the room with that line in his pocket, and would have trotted it out regardless of what McCain said in the meeting.
But you are right, McCain was caught totally off guard and let a real opportunity for a “teaching moment” fall on the floor. 1/2 point to Obama – because he scored with media and base, but to me he came off looking terribly petty, grumpy, and petulant.

"No Clear Winner in Seven-Hour Gabfest"
houstoneagle (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 4:52AM EST (link)Apparently there is an ultra-liberal copy editor deciding on how articles should be headlined over at Politico.
As for the gabfest: If you were to say that the Democrats talked twice as long as the Republicans, you’d be wrong. They talked MORE than twice as long.
Just when I was starting to think Politico was admirably even-handed in their coverage.
Here is a sample line from their coverage: “House Republicans, led by Minority Leader John Boehner and Minority Whip Eric Cantor, were less adroit, harping away on their longtime talking points, brandishing a 2-foot heap of the Senate reform bill.”

The Democrats continuously told sob “stories”, the best being someone forced by insurance woes to wear her dead sister’s false teeth, while the Republicans stuck to the realities of a disasterous bill. Americans! Did you hear this man, the President of the United States, call these 2700 pages of attempted legal embezzlement of your future a prop? These 2700 pages that will put you in a stranglehold while the government goes through your pockets? For him, and his Party leadership, it is only a prop. Think how many regulations lie within these 2700 pages! Think how many more empowered bureaucrats are created wtihin these 2700 pages! Think how the money will continue to hemorrhage from our nation into the hands of people who don’t live in this country nor were they born of it. So if, for the Democrats, this is just a prop. I have to ask — if it is a prop, can you tell us clearly what scenario you have written to go with it?

None of these bills are radical.”
I see the purpose of the meeting now: figure out a way to get people to actually listen to Obama, since coming on TV by himself (yet again!) isn’t working anymore. They think this explanation of their position will give them cover for moving forward, death or glory.

And while we watch the summit, Detroit plans forced relocations of citizens...
archer52 Friday, February 26th at 9:17AM EST (link)http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/02/26/meshing-mao-kelo-and-detroit/
Obama actually supports this academically driven concept of “downsizing” cities. Rather than admit to the faults in their higher taxes, more regulations, hyper-unions and generational welfare the progressives have decided to use “amputation” as a cure.
As I say in my post, I’ve been following this new theory for a while. It is sold as a way to reduce the drain on cities AND it is eco-friendly because it creates a number of city parks. On paper the concept makes some sense. However it does not address the core causes of urban blight. The left cannot admit their mistakes. Their desire to gain more power and control over the people is paramount to all other things. The fact Obama thinks favorably about forced seizure of land and forced relocation of citizens so the “city” (think the “state”) can survive is not surprising. From the post-
“Yesterday, Obama promised to listen to the Republicans plans. He didn’t. He is incapable and unwilling to do so. He is like Detroit’s leaders, committed to a certain way, corrupted by power, and willing to crush any person in his way, even millions of people if necessary.
So were Mao, Mussolini, and others like them. The difference between us and all those subjected to acts of other tyrants is that we live in America and that makes people like Obama have to play nice, or at least appear to play nice. Trust me, if he could he would do all of the things past tyrants did and more to promote his way. It is human nature and if you didn’t catch that from him yesterday, then you are simply too far gone to be saved yourself.”
My friend, who I have often called MENSA bright, argues with me about certain things. He suffers from being a little too academic himself not really grasping the the exercise he sees in front of him is actually IN FRONT OF HIM! It’s like my post on wishing zombies would visit because many of the liberals academics would be the first to die because they would refuse to accept the reality of the situation. A few less liberals would be a good thing.
http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/02/20/zombies-and-liberals-democrats-why-i-wish-the-living-dead-would-pay-a-visit/
I guess I’m one of the few that really understands this is not a game or a classroom exercise. This is reality. Obama knows this. His people know this. Some of the good Republicans know this as do a good number of Tea Party goers. But many, far too many, still think this is “just politics as usual.” It is not. Why is Obama so dead set on taking your health coverage away from you? Why is he willing to allow the slaughter of his own party to obtain this ONE goal? If it means so much to him, we should make sure it means that much to us.
Even if it passes states should refuse to participate, people should refuse to participate, companies should refuse. The law should take on the same “pariah” label that laws preventing blacks from eating at a restaurant or sitting where they want in a bus did.
Obama arrogantly said yesterday that elections mattered. In 2010 let us show him how right he is, and then in 2012 once again.
I am proud to say to you, archer52 ---
