Lest you think the Republican Party really has gotten on the Marco Rubio bandwagon, this morning’s Politico can disabuse you of that notion.
It’s like one of the scenes from your standard horror movie. As the monster is swept into the water/lava/mud/chasm/other plot device, it tries to drag the protagonist with it to its death. Think of the Balrog grabbing Gandalf on its way down.
In any event, check out this quote about Marco Rubio going to South Carolina to do a joint fundraiser with Jim DeMint:
“Anything such as this which lends appearance that Marco is already looking past not only the August primary, but the November election, is not a good place for him to be politically,” a Republican strategist told Morning Score. “Oftentimes some forget that while Jim DeMint may have a small universe of followers who read RedState, the reality is that the vast majority of Americans, including in Florida, don’t have the slightest idea who Jim DeMint is.”
Never you mind that Charlie Crist routinely leaves Florida to fundraise. In the next couple of weeks, in fact, Crist will be in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. trying to raise money.
By the way, “Republican Strategist” is media code for “unemployed Republican”, though blaming the NRSC is always a safe bet. I’m pretty sure I know which unemployed Republican strategist it was.

tngal (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 8:57AM EST (link)Demint got on the Rubio bandwagon before a lot of other people and helped him raise serious cash. Its to be expected Rubio would aid his ally. I can see how the strategist would be unemployed. Talk about picking nits.
Because there are 'other' Republicans
leehazel Wednesday, February 24th at 8:31PM EST (link)There are three types of Republican that I see:
RINOs — Republican in Name Only. Tend to be far to friendly with the Democrats. Do not understand the Democrat understanding of Bipartisanship, as in bend over and grab your ankles.
RMs — Middle Right Republicans. Solid but tend toward moderation
RCs — Republican Conservatives. This is the Reagan wing of the party. Those that believe in and follow the Constitution.
Which one would you expect to produce a Rubio detractor, hmmmmmmm?

They are calling Rubio's S Carolina Trip a PR mistake
nelsa (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 9:06AM EST (link)“Marco Rubio is heading to the presidential primary state of South Carolina in what is looking more and more like a PR mistake. Rubio is surging in the polls in his Senate primary with Gov. Charlie Crist, but now that he’s looking more and more like the favorite in that race, the honeymoon is over. The press will look for chinks in the armor, and a multi-stop tour with Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) can make it sound an awful lot like Rubio is looking beyond 2010 and toward 2012. Look for the media to run with that narrative.”

I can agree that talk of a POTUS bid is ridiculous at this point for Rubio but the news that Demint is creating a DemintRubio.com website does nothing to quell the chatter.
i get that
tngal (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 9:20AM EST (link)but its really a non issue. Its like Palin endorsing McCain. He brought her to the dance, got her a lot of exposure and she realizes she wouldn’t have as much notoriety today if he hadn’t brought her to the forefront back then. So now she’s paying him back. That’s all Rubio ‘s doing now w/ Demint. Must be a slow news day in the media mudpile if they’re searching for some chinks in the armour this miniscule.
PS. Congrats Rrick “DeMint may have a small universe of followers who read RedState,”.. this line confirms theres a universe of people who read your site. I’d be stoked if I were you.

yoyo (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 9:23AM EST (link)Why is it when two or more Conservatives get together, a “Conspiracy” is born in the eyes of the media?
Who cares (REALLY) what Marco’s eyes are on beyond 2010? I kinda like ambition in politicians. Strive for higher office, make this a better country. If he wants to run for VPOTUS, good for him! It is hardly a “fault”.
And Jim is bullet proof – mostly because of sheer will. He doesn’t care for the bullets, so the bullets don’t hurt. (or something like that.)
I like that two, like minded, CONSERVATIVE Republicans, standing/running on PRINCIPLE UNAPOLOGETICALLY, are showing some ambition. I (personally) am so FRICKIN tired of career politicians whose only ambition is holding on to what they have. Low risk, low reward. No ambition equals Olympia Snowe/Robert Byrd. And then the Lobbyists come…..
So, Good for them. Go Marco. Go Jim. Go DemintRubio.

Romney has endorsed McCain
d_lamar Tuesday, February 23rd at 10:31AM EST (link)I guess this is a clear indication that Romney is not going to be a candidate for president in 2012. He’s just lost the conservative faction of the GOP.

Somebody better get Bill Bennett on the line
philbo Tuesday, February 23rd at 11:27AM EST (link)He was pretty adamant in attacking Glenn Beck yesterday for allegedly not acknowledging that the GOP had already admitted that they had strayed. But once again, the GOP proves that they can morph their message to appear to be one thing without fixing the main problem: the country club progressive elitism that permeates those who won’t surrender leadership of the party (Gangs of McCain).

The disparaging snide comments( yes,I have listened to his radio show often over the last 2 years) concerning first Michael Savage, and now Glenn Beck are chipping away to discredit the non-establishment conservatives that get out ahead of the pack (also known as leaders). Bill loves to NOW extol the virtues of Marco Rubio, but ignores that McCain, Coryn and the Republican Senate election committee supported Crist BEFORE Florida primary voters even get to cast a vote. It’s ok to disagree but Bill’s comments drip with condescension more like MSNBC. Beware the Ides of March.
Note to anonymous strategist
obladioblada Tuesday, February 23rd at 12:04PM EST (link)Let me introduce you to this new-fangled internet thingy. It lets us whackos in the small universe of people who read Redstate and other blogs read about things that are subversive to anonymous strategists’ plans for our futures. It also lets us email these things to our friends, coworkers, families, heck anyone we want– all this new-fangled stuff is really cool that way. We also get to see and hear about a lot of the same stuff on the radio and the news network that carries all the news. We talk about all this stuff with people we know and we send emails back and forth and stuff.
There are also a bunch of people called the Tea Party that are really active with this stuff; a lot of us don’t participate in the TP stuff but we follow it closely and sympathize with the TPers, they help form our opinions, too.
You see the results of the stuff we learn and discuss in the polling numbers for Republicans, Democrats, Congress, Obama, Obamacare, Cap and Trade, etc, in ACORN’s funding problems and need to reorganize, in the failures of Scozzafava and Crist, in Rubio’s ascent and the enormous funds raised overnight by Brown.
I think you got the picture. Ugly pols and ideas get punished, good ones do well. When these things enter public consciousness, they often do so suddenly and virally. But they also develop over time, linger in our minds; repetitive good stuff from good pols isn’t forgotten, it creates favorable impressions and we remember that when we vote and make donations and stuff.
Thank God for all this new fangled teknoledgy stuff. We don’t have anymore information gatekeepers, you don’t control the message. It means we don’t have to listen to the MSM or anonymous strategists and we get to mock them. Often and publicly.
Have a nice day!
Crist staff jumping ship, while Rubio has plenty of hands on deck
tngal (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:41PM EST (link)Tampaby.com says Crist has lost two staffers and points to negative polling as the reason why..
“Political director Pablo Diaz, one of the first two staff members hired for the Senate campaign, is departing at the end of the month for “a new opportunity.” Sean Doughtie, a well-regarded new media consultant who had worked with Crist for years, stopped working for the campaign at the end of January.”
Wow. What more does the “republican strategist” want? Rubio”s got Crist on the ropes.
