It should probably be mentioned (cause I have no idea if it is generally known) that the original parody “Dirty Deeds Done with Sheep” and many other very funny parodies are the work of Bob Rivers.

Have you given any thought to what the original Demon Sheep was about?

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:41AM EST (link)

With all due respect, you might want to consider what the stakes are in California. Tom Campbell is as liberal as Barbara Boxer. He is FOR gun control. He is FOR McCain/Feingold. He is FOR abortion. He is FOR raising taxes. He is FOR gay marriage. He has consistently voted against supporting Israel. Have you looked at the pieces in American Spectator?I don’t know if any of those issues matter to you, but they should and they do to a lot of conservatives in California. The only possibility of stopping Tom Campbell from getting the Republican nomination for senate is Carly Fiorina.

At least Fiorina took the initiative to tell people who Campbell is at a time when polling indicates that voters who identify themselves as conservative are supporting him (they clearly do not know his record or his stated positions).

Carly Fiorina is a conservative and she can actually win. Do you resent her support for McCain? Who did YOU vote for, Obama?

Take a look at her positions. Take the time to find out what she is proposing. Then take a look at the polling. She is the only one with a reasonable chance to prevent Campbell from getting the nomination and leaving Californians – yet again – with a choice between two liberals.

JW Howard

Why do you Fiorina supporters...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:51AM EST (link)

neglect to acknowledge that Chuck Devore is in the race? Every time some shows up shilling for Carly, you only see mention of Campbell and Fiorina. Would it be because once Devore is mentioned, you can no longer say that Carly is the most conservative?

Why acknowledge the better alternative?

Neil Stevens (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:25AM EST (link)

Plus, DeVore exposes her horrible, horrible campaign efforts.

Some have said that Fiorina is surrounding herself with bad people. I’m not sure of that. I think she’s just dragging down the whole effort.

Just like she dragged down HP.

I'm well aware of who Carly is and what she stands for.

Brian Hibbert (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:17AM EST (link)

She ruled* my life (or attempted to) for a few years as CEO of HP.

She went to great extremes to make the lives of her employees miserable.

Now, I get of that kind of thing from Democrats all the time and I expect it. It’s part of their nature to want to control the lives of those who are so unfortunate as to not be in leadership. After all, they think we’re too stupid to be able to take care of ourselves. I just don’t want to have yet another Senator in Washington with the same ideas who claims to be on MY SIDE.

*I chose the term ruled on purpose. That was the attitude she took with everyone who worked for the company. She seemed to think it was her own little social experiment and that she had the right to beat us down for our own good.

Because Chuck DeVore is a nice guy

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:56AM EST (link)

but has not the remotest chance of winning. Have you take a look at how he is polling? He IS a conservative. Are you satisfied? So am I. So, I assume, are you. And we cannot beat Boxer. Have you met Chuck DeVore? I have. He is earnest. He is, I am sure, a good guy. He simply cannot win. He is the kind of candidate Boxer has chewed up and spit out repeatedly.

So, while I appreciate your support for him, again, I ask, do you understand the stakes? Chuck DeVore is polling in the single digits. This is one we need to win both in the Republican primary and in the general election.

JW Howard

I would disagree...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:02AM EST (link)

I know California is different than any other state, and I am not from there. The political climate is not the same as it has been in the past. Scott Brown was polling very poorly after the primaries in Mass., and nobody in their right mind gave him a shot at winning. Then the grassroots got involved, and look what happened. From what I see from Chuck Devore, he would be the candidate I would work hard for and vote for if I lived in California.

yes. grassroots.

Scott Brown was an inspiration

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:16AM EST (link)

but California is not Massachusetts. Chuck DeVore is not remotely Scott Brown. Barbara Boxer is not Martha Coakley. For one thing, she is an incumbent with a large following. I DO live in California and I care who actually wins this race. I have had the opportunity to spend one on one time with both DeVore and Fiorina. He is not the inspiration you think, nor she the caricature.

I would not try to dissuade you from your support of DeVore. I would simply point out that he is not the only conservative in this race and it is beneath conservatives to engage in attacks on other conservatives. It does not serve conservatism. It violates Reagan’s 11th Commandment. It heartens leftists. It weakens a movement that needs all the help it can get.

I do not have a deathwish. I want to see Barbara Boxer defeated by a conservative.

You might, also, want to give some thought to the fact that the Fiorina campaign has not attacked DeVore, though he has attacked her. Frankly, that does not speak well of him and does nothing to advance conservatism.

JW Howard

I will agree...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:28AM EST (link)

with wanting nothing more than removing Boxer from the Senate. That is definitely the ultimate goal.

Since I don’t have a vote in the primary, the best I can do is donate money to a candidate, and I have done so for Chuck Devore. If Fiorina wins the primary, I will likely donate to her campaign for the general election. I am all for defeating Ma’am Boxer.

As for Reagan’s 11th Commandment, I am all for fighting battles in the primaries.

Of course you do.

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:39AM EST (link)

So do I. All I am suggesting is that it does our philosophy no good for conservatives to attack one another. If you want to talk about experience – life and political – terrific. I think electability is also fair game. But my original criticism (that started this exchange) was based on vicious criticism of Fiorina for the Demon Sheep piece when what her campaign was clearly doing was letting conservatives know that Tom Campbell is not only not a conservative, he doesn’t even stand for Republican values. Criticizing Fiorina for telling the truth – especially about a liberal whose election would leave us no better off than the re-election of Barbara Boxer.

JW Howard

Well, in that case...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:48AM EST (link)

I have to say that Fiorina deserves every bit of flack for the demon sheep video. That video was the most ridiculous political ad I have ever seen. It isn’t the intended message, but the actual video itself. There haven’t been too many people on Red State criticize the video, most of us are just pointing and laughing. I cannot believe that a person that wants to be taken seriously would actually release that video. It has provided some humor, though.

Telling the truth about a candidate's record is a good thing.

eburke (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 10:05AM EST (link)

Doing it in a manner that just *begs* for ridicule and derision…

not so much.

You obviously haven't, pinhead.

Bill S (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 9:25AM EST (link)

The most recent polling data shows a whopping one point difference between how DeVore performs against Boxer, versus either Campbell or Carly.

Can you say “margin of error?”

Try again.

“It’s such a fine line between stupid, and clever.” – David St. Hubbins

Apparently you have not

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:41PM EST (link)

seen the polls with DeVore in single digits in the primary. Apparently, you have no clue as to how things actually play out in California. Apparently, you have no idea who Boxer ran against in the past and how she swamped them with a campaign that looks very like DeVore’s does now. Apparently, it does not concern you that Campbell (where the REAL fight is right now) is more than 20 points ahead of DeVore with a stable of big donors sufficient to come in ahead of DeVore.

Your devotion to DeVore is touching. It is just misplaced. If decorum is for “suckas”, count me in. If you think calling people “pinhead” helps your cause, you are wrong. It merely emphasizes the weakness of your argument. But keep it up. It makes your measure.

JW Howard

I really don't care how strong it makes the argument

Bill S (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:36PM EST (link)

as I’m just using the same tactic you did when you accused the executive editor of Redstate of being a Democrat.

Take a hike.

“It’s such a fine line between stupid, and clever.” – David St. Hubbins

So...this is why Chuck polls just about even w/Fiorina and Campbell

eburke (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 10:03AM EST (link)

is head-to-head matchups w/ Boxer?

Guess that means Carly and Tommy can’t win either so let’s just call it a day.

“All that need be done for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

Unified Patriots

I didn't finish that last sentence.

jwhoward (Diary) Tuesday, February 23rd at 2:43AM EST (link)

Criticizing Fiorina for telling the truth – especially about a livberal whose election would leave us no better off than would the re-election of Barbar Boxer – is ridiculous and counterproductive.

But when one candidate actually releases an ad that is so blindingly, unintentionally hilarious that it’s message is obscured, and the ad goes viral, becoming iconic in an unflattering way, you’ve got to question the candidate and the campaign, issues aside. I know, nobody likes to be ridiculed, but come on now, this one (and it’s original inspiration) is just too funny to pass on. Everyone needs a little comic relief. If I were Carly’s marketing dude, I’d be seriously talking to the Dallas/Ft Worth Tea Party folks. More great comedy versus MSNBC, but keeps right on message. she might be a “conservative” by California standards and if she is the best person for the job for all of you, then have at it. She, however loses HUGE points for that ridiculous ad. Either she is an idiot who thought that ad was actually worth showing people or she did not have the gonads to tell her publicists to go jump off the nearest bridge for that piece of hot mess! Either way, it doesn’t look good.
