This is about the funniest thing I’ve ever read.
Ladies and gentlemen, this guy is some sort of pseudo-journalist mouthpiece for that idiot lawyer from California, Orly Taitz.
These are the people we are relying on to document the eligibility of Barack Obama?!?!
Charlton writes
It appears that Eric Erickson, the Editor-in-Chief of Redstate.com, is an attorney who once practiced law in the same courthouse as the infamous Judge Clay D. Land, who sanctioned Attorney Orly Taitz for having the daring to plead the Eligibility question in the case of Captain Connie Rhodes’s deployment.
Erickson himself admits that he was an attorney with Sell & Mellon, L.L.P, of Macon, Georgia. His former law firm proudly displays an image of the William Augustus Bootle Building, where Taitz appeared before Land.
It is not known if the clients of Sell & Mellon are known political donors to the Democrat Party, but if any were, that might be a reason for Erickson’s animus.
Actually, the William Augustus Bootle Federal Courthouse is most decidedly not where Judge Clay Land presides. It is the central seat of the Middle District of Georgia, but Land presides in a courthouse in Columbus, GA. Likewise, he did not become a judge until way the heck after I left practicing law.
Additionally, the law firm’s name was Sell & Melton, not Mellon.
If the supposed chronicler of the birfer movement can look at a website and get the name of the law firm wrong and totally miss the fact that Orly Taitz’s representation of that soldier in Columbus, GA happened in Columbus, GA, what the heck sort of credibility can we trust these people to have with the actual facts?
BOLD FACT FOR THE BIRFERS: The time to raise the question was before the man got elected President and as every single court that has heard it has thrown it out, these people are insane. No federal judge would ever throw out the election of a man who was chosen by FIFTY-ONE PERCENT of the American public. Oh, and Obama was born in Hawaii.
SECOND BOLD FACT FOR THE BIRFERS: What do George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, Ronald W. Reagan, Jimmy E. Carter, and Barack Obama all have in common besides being elected President? None of them had to present a birth certificate before they ran for office. Why is Obama special? You people just don’t like Hawaiians, do you?

There is a HUGE hole in the entire federal political system.
In each case these people went to the state secretaries, they were told ‘its a federal matter’, and each time it went to the federal courts they were told ‘its up to the states’.
Basically, you have to provide proof of residency, a copy of your birth certificate, your last 12 electric bills, and a copy of your library card to run for Dog Catcher or they will not allow you on the ballot….but run for president, and you don’t have to file a single piece of paper to anyone anywhere proving you meet the requirements for the job.

I am not a fan of birthers but they absolutely in no way should be lumped in with the monstrous truthers. One is based on the entire US government conspiring to kill 3,000 Americans and the other is ONE man not stepping forward whether made to or only asked to by the citizens of our country to show us who the hell he is. I am not buying all the born out of the country stuff but as a gesture to the American couldn’t he step forward and tell us and show us his life story? Do you know anything about him from high school to Chicago? Do you know who he worked for or who his friends were? Do you know who paid for his college or what his grades were? Do you know who wrote his two books? Hell no and you don’t want anyone else to ask any questions. I don’t

They are single issue, head in their nether regions fools.
First of all, the idiots have taken the issue to court and gotten nowhere. Secondly, they’ve produced at least three clearly faked birth certs. Third, so what. Just how do they propose to get O out of office even if they could prove their case, which they can’t.
All they are doing is giving O cover by being able to point to people who are clearly off the scale fruitloops. And if you need proof of that, just look at the postings here and inspect the idiot who wrote the piece that this particular diary is about.
Absolutely not one of the questions you’ve brought up in your little screed matter one whit. What does matter is stopping OCare and CardCheck and his agenda. An answer, or non-answer to any of those questions will not accomplish that. We need to beat him on the political issues that matter, beat him at the ballot box in ’12 and then you and your little friends can hound him until hell freezes over.
Here's how the genetic makeup is similar:

Third Street (Diary) Saturday, February 13th at 11:21PM EST (link)that doesn’t seem to be the calculation. For whatever reason, the thinking seems to be 1.) condemn “birfer”-ism as (correctly) something so politically radioactive that it shouldn’t even be brought up amongst conservatives, and then 2.) keep the topic alive by continually posting new articles about it with open comments sections. I’m disappointed at this; it seems to be like “birfer-hunting” by poking a stick in people’s eyes and daring them to react suspiciously (as I suppose you and I are here) by objecting to it, and I posted yesterday about why this is doing no one any good.
Legitimizing “birfers” (by the way, does wondering why Obama sealed his personal records make you Orly Taitz?) by paying this much attention to the fringe and associating everyone with a question with the fringe, thereby scooping up who knows how many allies and potential allies and throwing them under the bus, does the Democrats’ work for them. We’re on Day 2 of this now and will just have to see how long it goes on; meanwhile the best course really would be to squelch the topic. “Save it for the Left”, as I’ve been told a time or two myself by some of the people cheering this on.

In The Hook (Diary) Saturday, February 13th at 10:22PM EST (link)I mean where does it end? Why not talk about who joined what fraternity in college? Why not discuss who was smoking cigarettes in the bathroom in high school? Heck, while we’re at it, shouldn’t we be inquiring as to who a future or past candidate pushed off the jungle gym in first grade? It’s all freaking ridiculous.
If you want Obama’s biography, go read the two he’s written on his own. Or go read any of the myriad of books, articles and papers written on his past. Go to Chicago, Hawaii and Indonesia and interview his former friends, teachers and people who once saw him in a grocery store. This whole situation is just asinine.
You’re a natural citizen if you have one American parent, regardless of where you were born, or if you’re born in America regardless of parentage. That’s the rule and that’s basically always been the rule. Obama’s mother was a Kansan and he was born in Hawaii. End of freaking discussion.
Those on this site who have said that Obama is intentionally withholding information to try and make his detractors look crazy may or may not be right. I don’t know. But I do know that going down this path certainly does de-legitimize those who make salient arguments against his policies and positions. So completely disassociating ourselves from those nutbags is the right move. I think talking too much about the issue is probably not a great strategy, but a few very direct posts on the subject and strict enforcement of the banning policy is a solid play.
I just hope that this is basically the last time Erick brings it up, because further discussion just mainstreams birfers by getting them play on a serious website like this one.

Here is an e-mail I sent Erick...
Rob_McEwen Saturday, February 13th at 11:01PM EST (link)(btw – Will I get banned for the following? Is this disrespectful?)
*************************************************
Erick,
I know you are not going to like to hear this… but I’ve agreed with ALL of your positions & posts about the birthers until those last few posts. You are now burning bridges that didn’t need to get burned, and you are greatly underestimating the clout and deep roots of Joseph Farah and wnd.com …you need them to be allies, not advisories.
Additionally, you are putting yourself in a position where you’d look like an idiot if the following two things BOTH happen: (1) Obama starts pulling ‘Hugo Chavez’-like antics that creep out even average Americans–is that so hard to imagine?, AND (2) a smoking gun does come up that conclusively proves that Obama was never constitutionally qualified to be president. While both happening is outside shot, you are foolish to bet sooooo much that both of those things never happen.
If both of those things do happen… and you lose political capital over it… I’m going to have a hard time feeling sorry for you.
Before I ever heard you pipe in on this, I recall feeling sick to my stomach that wnd.com pushed this issue so hard. Why? Because I knew that if this were proved true too early, and got ‘traction’ in the courts, the American people would revolt against any such finding and would feel like their will at the ballot box was usurped by a gimmick. The result would be counterproductive. Therefore, I too was (initially) angry at Farah over pushing this issue so hard. And I totally agree with you about how this issue shouldn’t hijack the Tea Party movement and you make good points there as well–including your posts from earlier this past week where you blast Farah for taking the focus off of other things at the Tea Party Convention.
But you are dead wrong in comparing ‘birthers’ to ‘truthers’. There is no comparison. The ‘truther’ movement is built on a couple of obscure and strange things that don’t seem to fit–and then massive amounts of (false) evidence are ‘force fit’ into that vision… even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary (much like ‘cults’). In contrast, the ‘birther’ movement has a great deal of corroborating facts and evidence, with very little evidence to the contrary–and everything you’ve presented as evidence that the ‘birther’ position has been settled in Obama’s favor is not particularly impressive or substantive, imo. –certainly not anything nearly as impressive as the many indisputable facts that are supportive of birther’s positions.
Having said that, the birther issue does kind of remind me of the Clinton and Lewinsky scandal. I was really upset at that time because I felt like this was taking away from highlighting issues like Clinton’s selling out technology and secrets to the Chinese (and/or lack of protecting them), his softness on terror, and his illegal Chinese campaign contributions. Democrats actually capitalized on this by making the campaign all about “sex” and intrusion into politician’s private lives–taking the ball off the real issues at hand. (even though that was bad analysis, they were able to successfully spin it that way) Likewise, I agree that you make good points about not allowing the ‘birthers’ to distract from other important goals–and you are correct that this could backfire even if the birthers are proven correct, especially if we all focus too much on that.
But your more recent draconian policies where you throw birthers overboard reminds me of how Neal Boortz won’t discuss abortion–which seems more out of ignorance and hate than out of well-thought-out confidence. In fact, this also remind me about how many Republicans get all defensive and embarrassed when confronted with Evolution… or Global Warming… OK, sure, arguing against Global Warming is suddenly “cool” (pun intended). But only so many MONTHS ago, many Republicans and Conservatives were too embarrassed to even admit that they didn’t believe Global Warming was a scientifically established fact. With all that has happened in the news (& weather) lately… look how dumb those guys look now! Better yet, I know Christian Conservatives who claim to be bible believers who are too embarrassed to defend creationism in public because they’ve been convinced that only idiots believe in Creationism and they try to argue that, somehow, “God did it through evolution” (talking about “goo to you” evolution here). A common thread is that they, like Mike Huckabee (btw–and how ironic given that Huckabee is a preacher), never really took the time to understand the leading creationist’s actual arguments and positions. This was a position of ignorance, not of strength.
Likewise, don’t be surprised if, in the long run, history puts you on the wrong side of the birther issue and if you pay a price for that… one that could have been avoided had you simply stayed more ‘neutral’ on the subject.
I also think that a larger issue that should be exploited in the 2012 elections it that, regardless of where Obama was born… or the nationality of his parents… is the fact that he is NOT really an American in the sense that he spent much of his childhood OUTSIDE the US in Islamic schools [likely one which are typically not known for teaching the values of capitalism and freedom and democracy]. In fact, here is question: What do George Soros, the guy who runs Daily Kos, Arianna Huffington, and Obama have in common? NONE of them were educated very much (if at all!) in US Schools in their childhood/youth. So when we were all learning about George Washington and the cherry tree, the three branches of gov’t w/”checks & balances”, Patrick Henry’s ‘give me liberty of give me death’, etc. They were taught to hate America. Heck, they probably never watched Gilligan’s Island, or the Brady Bunch, or Star Trek (tos) in their youth–catch my drift. (not that TV shows matter–but this is a great way to show ‘regular’ Americans how out-of-touch with American Obama is). And yet these four people were a large part of what got Obama elected.
And you’ve made that same point yourself in some excellent posts–that Obama doesn’t connect with Americans because he doesn’t have American values, I’d argue that even if he ends up passing the Natural Born Citizen test, for all practical purposes, he breaks the “spirit” of that Constitutional requirement based on his hate of capitalism and his upbringing. For all practical purposes, he is NOT a product of US culture and US values. Therefore, even if he is a Natural Born Citizen, he has ALL the baggage that the founding fathers feared would come from a NON-Natural Born Citizen. So their fears that motivated them to write in that requirement have essentially been *realized* in the person of Obama. And isn’t that the larger point! (btw – even if I were drugged out of my mind and sleep deprived, I’d STILL be able to correctly refer to all “50 states”. Only someone educated and raised *outside* the US could possibly EVER get that question wrong.)
Those are the larger issues you ought to use to build a bridge with birthers–and then feel free to say, “but don’t discuss the Natural Born Citizen issue at redstate because we think that wnd.com is giving this all the coverage it deserves, and then some”. Period. That is all you have to say,.
But burning bridges that didn’t need to be burned, and putting your own credibility at risk by advocating a position which might easily be proved dead wrong at any point in time, throwing a lot of good people overboard, and YES.. you *yourself* blowing this out of proportion (in spite of trying to do the opposite) …this was all a very unwise move on your part.
I hope you learn from this and react wisely…
***************************
I’ll now add that the (1) actual merits of this case have NOT been settled in court. Period. No court case has even reached the ‘discovery phase’–all cases have ended on strange technicalities. For Erick to suggest otherwise is disingenuous. (2) The Republican Hawaiian Governor’s statements haven’t settled anything–and there are conflicting interpretations thereof. (3) Obama is on record crediting his birth at two different Hawaiian hospitals–that is beyond dispute and that has never been resolved. (4) Bush, Clinton, Reagan, & Carter ALL have solid histories and paper trails showing that they clearly grew up in America and were born to American families living in America, with solid American roots. Obama does not have those things–so these questions are not so easily answered in Obama’s case. Sorry Erick, but you are comparing apples to oranges.
So in that one small paragraph above, I’ve pretty much obliterated every single factual statement Erick used to discredit the birther’s actual positions across his last few posts. And that was all too easy. I don’t really want to debate this issue because, frankly, I do NOT follow it that closely. But if Erick doesn’t want it debated here, he ought not to throw out such easily disprovable points.
IOW, don’t say, “lets not debate this here”… and then debate this here …with cheap shots which use extremely faulty points.
I’d have respected “let not debate this here”… and then LEAVING IT AT THAT.
But this turn of events, and the methods and statements employed here… all makes me ill. This unnecessarily divides conservatives at a time when we were all just getting united for all the right causes.
What a waste and what a shame.

Third Street (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 12:09AM EST (link)…that meandered quite a bit and there’s a lot in there I reject, but I fully agree with your basic premise that the continued shake-the-hornets’-nest posts on “birfer”-ism will serve only to anger and divide; and that it is truly monstrous to compare fanatical leftist/Paulian delusionals, who believe George Bush murdered 3,000 people, to the conservative guy down the street to whom it correctly occurs from time to time that no one ever got an answer as to why Obama sealed his birth certificate a week before Election Day.
The Boortz comparison is a good one, and it irritates me when he pre-emptively shuts potential callers down on that… but he does it because his position on abortion is in conflict with that of much of his listenership. What Erick’s doing with regard to “birfers” would be as if, after announcing no discussion on abortion would be allowed on his show, Boortz then devoted several hours, if not several days, to ruminating about how stupid and destructive to the fight against liberalism anti-abortionists are; and then using Scott Roeder and people who bomb abortion clinics as his examples of anti-abortionists. It wouldn’t be the wisest thing to do.

Why Such Ubiquitous Incuriousity?
thatcherite Saturday, February 13th at 11:33PM EST (link)Will someone please explain to me why there is such fervent opposition to the discussion of any topic regarding Barack Obama’s Certificate of Birth? Perhaps we would simply like to know who the attending physician was at his birth or in which hospital he was born. How does that portend conspiracy? Moreover, why would he pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees as well as allow the judicial system to be inundated with endless litigation on the subject when all he would have to do is produce a copy of the document? Why can’t the public just see it? Is that too much to ask? Why can’t we see his transcripts from Occidental College, Columbia, or Harvard? Why is everyone so protective of this man’s privacy?

Many reasons, thatcherite...
Nick Haynes (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 12:08AM EST (link)Let’s see if I can’t list a few:
1.) Spend your ammo wisely. There are only so many powder kegs you can use before you have to resupply or run out. Therefore, you pick your battles which you can win and thereby open up some supply lines to your troops, or you aim to do as much damage as possible and hope to fight another day. The time and effort spent on this ‘issue’ distracts us from utilizing that energy against the agenda of Obama and the Dems, and in doing so, keeps us from spending that ammo on things where we can pick up a victory.
2.) Don’t fight a winless battle. There is absolutely no way that we win this one, period. Assume that Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen (which, after seeing everything I have, I believe he is). The only way Obama is removed from office is through impeachment and conviction, which means we need a majority of representatives and 67 senators to say yes, he’s gone. That ain’t gonna happen…so why waste our time on it?
3.) It makes us look crazy. The American people don’t want half-baked conspiracy theories. They want ideas, and they want results. The fact that Obama is the first non-white president makes us look like fringe racist loons if we advocate this, considering that we didn’t ask for a birth certificate from McCain (who was actually born outside of the US), W. Bush, Clinton, H.W. Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower…..and so on, and so on.
Not to mention I think that, if you haven’t seen enough evidence to resolve the issue, it’s most likely because you don’t want it resolved.

Rob_McEwen Sunday, February 14th at 12:01AM EST (link)A lot of meaningless and irrelevant blogs are built on the foundation of going out and constantly highlighting the wackiest statements of the nuttiest people who happen to be espousing a view which is in opposition to the blog owner. Big deal. Fighting nutty Straw Men is an easy task. (Yawn) –but one which doesn’t necessarily add meaningful points or information to the actual debate of the issue at hand. So, in the end, this is really a distraction and a “red herring” and a meaningless shot at a straw man.
Great blogs, like Red State, are build on more substance than this. (So I’m hoping posts like this one are NOT a new trend!)

Yeah right... just about as much as...
Rob_McEwen Sunday, February 14th at 1:04AM EST (link)Liberal blogs made the point that Republican Congressman Larry Craig’s gay sex scandal + his support of the Federal Marriage Amendment = Federal Marriage Amendment was therefore bad or immoral law.
However, clearer heads understand that one individual’s failings or stupidity didn’t make wrong some position that person advocated. Sure, it was ‘fair game’ for liberal blogs to make fun of Craig’s *personal* hypocrisy… but they went beyond that. They hig- fived each when they THOUGHT this was some kind of major policy point which should have shifted the debate against the Marriage Amendment. But, as you know, the actual merits of the Marriage Amendment were fully left intact, despite Craig’s *personal* failings.
Obviously, there is actually MUCH more correlation between Craig’s actions and his support of the marriage amendment — than a birther’s cheap and libelous personal attack on Erick and that person’s positions on Obama’s status as Natural Born Citizen. (But I don’t recall any credible conservatives allowing that to be used as a valid arguement against the marriage amendment? And rightly so!)
I EXPECT such tit-for-tat juvenile logic from Daily Kos. But not from Red State.

May I make a suggestion to the birthers?
RedBeard Sunday, February 14th at 8:56AM EST (link)Well, two suggestions, actually.
1. Go do your work and find evidence to support your position that Obama is not a natural born citizen. This may be done through actual labor and intelligent inquiry, requiring little noise and furor. Then report back to us with said evidence, and we will be extremely attentive.
2. Until said evidence is ready to be presented, stop raving and baying at the moon (just to clarify, evidence does not include not-being-able-to-get-any-evidence; the latter is Area 51/alien autopsy crapola, nothing more). Your irrational screaming makes it very difficult for rational people who have legitimate questions about all aspects of Obama’s secrecy.
Thank you.

Please.
Sans evidence, this board’s management has decided that birther conspiracy theories, non-proven and purely speculative and peppered with bits of paranoia, shall not be given voice here.
Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.
Will this trigger a ban?
Rob_McEwen Sunday, February 14th at 1:57PM EST (link)Maybe your continued entrapment attempts will allow the moderators to cut me a little slack and not ban me… since this is a direct and short response to your *persistent* question?
But, to answer your direct question:
(1) I find Kenyan Anabaptist minister Rev. Kweli Shuhubia’s Affidavit to be credible. And this *is* the sort of evidence which would be permissible in court. And if this is some made up B.S., (such as this not being a real person, or the Affidavit being forged) then it would be easily disproved in court.
(2) Kapiolani Medical Center -OR- Queen’s Medical Center… which one is the birth hospital? Isn’t it a little strange that ALL the major web sites changed the hospital to Kapiolani in about July 2009. Yet numerous past news accounts, newspaper articles, and even barackobama.com’s official biography had Queen’s as the birth place up until that time. Why couldn’t they get their story straight until July 2009? (I was born at the Air Force Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO… and that has NEVER been a confusing topic for me!) Or, could you please explain how this mix-up was somehow engineered by crazy conspiracy theorist birthers?
(3) There is substantial evidence that the “certificate of live birth” graphic posted on various web sites was forged. This is NOT a substitute for the actual original long form certificate. But it begs the question… why the need to forge this? The evidence for this being a forgery is similar to… but not quite as powerful.. as the evidence that the Bush’s national guard docs were forged. SEE: http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/12993.htm
(BTW – at the same time, I think the the purported Kenyan birth certificate is probably a forgery created by an opportunist trying to sell it and make money off of this. Not saying a Kenyan certificate doesn’t exist. I just thing the one that came out recently is probably a forgery by an opportunist.)
Finally, I’m NOT saying you should all covert to birthers over these things. And if these three things didn’t exist, I’d probably be right there with you on this. But I do think such evidence should maybe give you some pause and some respect for the birther’s positions and for their *unsettled* questions on this matter.

Yes. You are correct...
Rob_McEwen Sunday, February 14th at 2:57PM EST (link)It won’t help. It is a waste of time. But trying to say (or imply) that all birthers are whackjobs is also a counterproductive waste of time.
Here is what I think is great about this issue… should Obama eventually go all out “Hugo Chavez” on us… AND… should we really hit The Great Depression II (much worse than what we’ve been through) at a time when even die-hard Dems finally no longer blame Bush…. and his poll #s drop another 20-30 points…
Then (a) they can’t say that some people didn’t try to bring this to court before that time–so they can’t say this is some new trumped up issue, AND (b) this is waiting in the wings if/when needed for a time like that. Perhaps some judge might THEN have the political will to allow this to get its day in court… under THOSE circumstances. Hopefully, that won’t happen and this won’t be needed… but think of it as a “safety valve” for *extreme* circumstances which I hope won’t ever happen.
In the meantime, you are correct, it isn’t worth pursuing… I’ve already stated that. But it is also a bad idea to use this as a wedge to divide conservatives and cause them to waste energy fighting each other.
Btw – The more interesting question is… what happens if some states create a requirement for a presidential candidate to submit a copy of their original birth certificate in order to be on the 2012 ballet? THAT would be quite interesting…. but lets save that topic for WorldNetDaily.
I don't have time to chase what if's, we have a republic to save. nt

This is like the nut cases that still believe in global warming and now that they are exposed they still believe the polar bears will fall off the iceberg and die! Like a bad tune in your head that won’t go away.
Case Closed!
